¹James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Dispersion: Greetings.

¹ یعقوب بندهٔ خدا و بندهٔ عیسی مسیح خداوند به دوازده طایفهٔ اسرائیل كه در سراسر عالم پراكنده‌اند، سلام و درود می‌فرستد.

²Count it all joy, my brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” , when you fall into various temptations,

² ای دوستان من، هرگاه دچار آزمایشهای گوناگون می‌شوید، بی‌نهایت شاد باشید،

³knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

³ چون می‌دانید اگر خلوص ایمان شما در آزمایش ثابت شود، بردباری شما بیشتر می‌شود؛

⁴Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

⁴ و وقتی بردباری شما كامل شود، شما انسانهای كامل و بی‌نقصی شده و به چیزی محتاج نخواهید بود.

⁵But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

⁵ اگر كسی از شما فاقد حكمت باشد، آن را از خدا بخواهد و خدایی كه همه‌چیز را با سخاوت می‌بخشد و انسان را سرزنش نمی‌کند، آن را به او خواهد داد.

⁶But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

⁶ امّا او باید با ایمان بخواهد و در فكر خود شک نداشته باشد، چون آدم شكّاک مانند موج دریاست كه در برابر باد رانده و متلاطم می‌شود.

⁷For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

⁷ چنین شخصی نباید گمان كند كه از خداوند چیزی خواهد یافت،

⁸He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

⁸ چون شخص دودل در تمام كارهای خود ناپایدار است.

⁹But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

⁹ مسیحیِ مسكین باید به سرافرازی خود در برابر خدا فخر كند

¹⁰and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

¹⁰ و مسیحیِ ثروتمند نیز از ناچیزی خود، زیرا او مانند گُلِ علف زودگذر است.

¹¹For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.

¹¹ همین‌که آفتاب با گرمای سوزان خود بر آن می‌تابد علف را می‌خشکاند، گُلِ آن می‌ریزد و زیبایی آن از بین می‌رود. شخص دولتمند نیز همین‌طور در میان فعالیّتهای خود از بین می‌رود.

¹²Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

¹² خوشا به حال کسی‌که در برابر وسوسه از پای در نیاید، زیرا وقتی آزموده شود تاج حیاتی را كه خداوند به دوستداران خود وعده داده است، خواهد گرفت.

¹³Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

¹³ كسی‌كه گرفتار وسوسه می‌شود، نباید بگوید: «خداوند مرا به وسوسه انداخته است.» چون خداوند از بدی مبرّاست و كسی را به وسوسه نمی‌اندازد.

¹⁴But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

¹⁴ انسان وقتی دچار وسوسه می‌شود كه مجذوب و فریفتهٔ شهوات خود باشد.

¹⁵Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

¹⁵ در نتیجه، شهوت آبستن می‌شود و گناه را تولید می‌کند و وقتی گناه کاملاً رشد كرد، باعث مرگ می‌شود.

¹⁶Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.

¹⁶ ای دوستان عزیز من، فریب نخورید.

¹⁷Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

¹⁷ تمام بخشش‌های نیكو و هدایای كامل از آسمان و از جانب خدایی می‌آید كه آفرینندهٔ نور است و در او تغییر و تیرگی وجود ندارد.

¹⁸Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

¹⁸ او بنا به ارادهٔ خود و به وسیلهٔ كلمهٔ حقیقت ما را آفرید تا ما نمونه‌ای از خلقت تازهٔ او باشیم.

¹⁹So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

¹⁹ بنابراین ای دوستان عزیز من، این را بدانید كه هرکس باید زود بشنود، دیر جواب دهد و دیر عصبانی شود.

²⁰for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

²⁰ چون عصبانیّت انسان به هدفهای نیكوی الهی كمک نمی‌کند.

²¹Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls or, preserve your life. .

²¹ پس هر نوع عادت ناشایست و رفتار شرارت‌آمیز را از خود دور كنید. خود را به خدا بسپارید و كلامی را كه او در دلهای شما كاشته و می‌تواند شما را نجات بخشد، با فروتنی بپذیرید.

²²But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

²² شما باید بر طبق كلام او عمل كنید و فقط با شنیدن خود را فریب ندهید.

²³For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

²³ چون کسی‌که به كلام گوش می‌دهد ولی بر طبق آن عمل نمی‌کند، مانند مردی است كه به آینده نگاه می‌کند و قیافهٔ طبیعی خود را در آن می‌بیند.

²⁴for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

²⁴ او خود را می‌بیند ولی همین‌كه از جلوی آینه دور می‌شود، فراموش می‌کند كه قیافه‌اش چگونه بود.

²⁵But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

²⁵ امّا کسی‌که با دقّت به شریعت كامل و آزادی‌بخش نگاه كند و همیشه متوجّه آن باشد و شنوندهٔ فراموشكاری نباشد، بلكه مطابق آن رفتار كند، خداوند تمام كارهای او را بركت خواهد داد.

²⁶If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

²⁶ اگر كسی گمان می‌کند كه آدم متدیّنی است ولی زبان خود را مهار نمی‌کند، خود را فریب می‌دهد و ایمان او بیهوده است. دیانت پاک و بی‌آلایش در برابر خدای پدر این است كه وقتی یتیمان و بیوه زنها دچار مصیبت می‌شوند، از آنها توجّه كنیم و خود را از فساد جهان دور نگاه داریم.

²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

²⁷ دیانت پاک و بی‌آلایش در برابر خدای پدر این است كه وقتی یتیمان و بیوه زنها دچار مصیبت می‌شوند، از آنها توجّه كنیم و خود را از فساد جهان دور نگاه داریم.
