¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

¹ خداوند به من گفت:

²Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

² «به شرایط پیمان گوش کن.

³and say to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man who doesn’t hear the words of this covenant,

³ به مردم یهودا و اورشلیم بگو که خداوند، خدای اسرائیل، کسی را که شرایط پیمان را اطاعت نکند، لعنت کرده است.

⁴which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;

⁴ یعنی همان پیمانی که با اجدادشان بستم در وقتی‌که آنها را از مصر -‌از سرزمینی که برایشان مثل کورهٔ سوزان بود- بیرون آوردم. از آنها خواسته بودم از من اطاعت کنند و هرچه امر می‌کنم، همان را انجام دهند. به آنها گفتم اگر از من اطاعت کنند، آنان قوم من و من خدای آنها خواهم بود.

⁵that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, Yahweh.

⁵ در آن صورت من به وعده‌ای که به اجدادشان داده بودم، وفا خواهم نمود و این سرزمین غنی و حاصلخیزی را که اکنون در آن زندگی می‌کنند، به آنها خواهم داد.» من گفتم: «آمین، ای خداوند.»

⁶Yahweh said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear the words of this covenant, and do them.

⁶ آنگاه خداوند به من گفت: «به شهرهای یهودا و به کوچه‌های اورشلیم برو. پیام مرا در آنجا اعلام کن و به مردم بگو به شرایط پیمان توجّه و از آنها اطاعت کنند.

⁷For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

⁷ وقتی اجداد آنها را از مصر بیرون آوردم، ‌مصرّانه از آنها می‌خواستم از من اطاعت کنند تا به امروز هم همان را از ایشان می‌خواهم.

⁸Yet they didn’t obey, nor turn their ear, but walked everyone in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn’t do them.

⁸ امّا آنها گوش ندادند و اطاعت نکردند. در عوض، همه به لجاجت و شرارت خود مثل گذشته ادامه دادند. من به آنها دستور داده بودم که پیمان را نگه‌دارند، امّا آنها آن را رد کردند. پس من هم همان‌طور که پیمان مقرّر کرده بود، آنها را مجازات کردم.»

⁹Yahweh said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

⁹ آنگاه خداوند به من گفت: «مردم یهودا و اورشلیم برضد من توطئه‌های شرارت‌آمیزی می‌کنند.

¹⁰They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

¹⁰ آنها به گناهان اجداد خود بازگشته‌اند و به آنچه می‌گویم عمل نمی‌کنند و به پرستش سایر خدایان پرداخته‌اند. هر دو، هم اسرائیل و هم یهودا، پیمانی را که من با اجدادشان بسته بودم، شکسته‌اند.

¹¹Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

¹¹ پس اکنون من، خداوند به آنها اخطار می‌کنم که بلایی بر سرشان خواهم آورد که نتوانند از آن بگریزند. وقتی برای کمک به حضور من فریاد برآورند، به آنها گوش نخواهم داد.

¹²Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

¹² آنگاه مردم یهودا و اورشلیم به نزد خدایانی می‌روند که به حضور آنها قربانی می‌گذرانند و از آنها کمک خواهند خواست. امّا آن خدایان قادر نخواهند بود که ‌در روز بلا آنها را نجات دهند.

¹³For according to the number of your cities are your gods, Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

¹³ مردم یهودا به تعداد شهرهای خود، خدایان دارند و اهالی اورشلیم هم به تعداد تمام کوچه‌های شهر برای بعل -‌آن بت منفور- قربانگاه ساخته‌اند.

¹⁴Therefore don’t pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.

¹⁴ ای ارمیا برای مردم، دیگر به حضور من دعا نکن و چیزی نخواه. وقتی آنها دچار زحمت می‌شوند و از من کمک می‌خواهند، به آنها گوش نخواهم داد.»

¹⁵What has my beloved to do in my house, since she has worked lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from you? when you do evil, then you rejoice.

¹⁵ خداوند می‌گوید: «قوم محبوب من مرتکب شرارت می‌شوند. آنها چه حقّی دارند که وارد معبد بزرگ من شوند؟ آیا فکر می‌کنند با وعده و قربانی‌های خودشان، می‌توانند جلوی بلا را بگیرند؟ و دوباره شاد و خوشحال شوند؟

¹⁶Yahweh called your name, A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.

¹⁶ من یک‌بار اسم آنها را درخت زیتون پر برگ و پر از میوه‌های زیبا گذاشته بودم، امّا اکنون با خروشی مثل رعد، برگهای آن را می‌سوزانم و شاخه‌هایش را قطع می‌کنم.

¹⁷For Yahweh of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

¹⁷ «من خداوند متعال، اسرائیل و یهودا را مثل نهالی کاشتم، امّا اکنون خبر مصیبت‌باری برایشان دارم. این بلا را خودشان بر سر خود آوردند چون مرتکب شرارت شده‌اند؛ آنها با گذراندن قربانی در برابر بعل، مرا خشمگین کرده‌اند.»

¹⁸Yahweh gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then you showed me their doings.

¹⁸ خداوند مرا از توطئه‌هایی که دشمنانم برضد من چیده‌اند، آگاه ساخت.

¹⁹But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn’t know that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

¹⁹ من مانند گوسفند رامی که برای کشتن می‌بردند، بودم و نمی‌دانستم آنها چه نقشه‌های شومی علیه من کشیده‌اند. آنها می‌گفتند: «بیایید تمام شاخه‌های این درخت را تا تازه است، قطع کنیم؛ بیایید او را بکشیم تا دیگر کسی او را به یاد نیاورد.»

²⁰But, Yahweh of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I shall see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.

²⁰ آنگاه من در دعا گفتم: «ای خداوند متعال، تو قاضی عادلی هستی، تو افکار و احساسات مردم را می‌آزمایی. من مشکل خود را به دستهای تو می‌سپارم، پس بگذار ببینم چگونه از آنها انتقام می‌گیری.»

²¹Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You shall not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, that you not die by our hand;

²¹ مردان عناتوت می‌خواستند مرا بکشند. آنها به من گفته بودند که اگر به اعلام پیام خداوند ادامه دهم مرا خواهند کشت.

²²therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

²² پس خداوند متعال گفت: «من آنها را مجازات خواهم کرد! مردان جوانشان در جنگ کشته خواهند شد و اطفالشان از گرسنگی خواهند مرد. زمان مکافات مردم عناتوت را تعیین کرده‌ام، و وقتی آن زمان فرا رسد، هیچ‌یک از آنها زنده نخواهند ماند.»

²³and there shall be no remnant to them: for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

²³ زمان مکافات مردم عناتوت را تعیین کرده‌ام، و وقتی آن زمان فرا رسد، هیچ‌یک از آنها زنده نخواهند ماند.»
