¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

¹ در دهمین سال سلطنت صدقیا‌ -‌پادشاه یهودا‌- که مصادف با هجدهمین سال سلطنت نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل بود، پیامی از جانب خداوند به من رسید.

²Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem; and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

² در آن زمان ارتش پادشاه بابل در حال حمله به اورشلیم بود و من در محوطهٔ کاخ سلطنتی زندانی بودم.

³For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy, and say, Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

³ صدقیای پادشاه مرا به زندان انداخت چون گفته بودم، خدا می‌گوید: «من اجازه می‌دهم پادشاه بابل این شهر را فتح کند،

⁴and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall see his eyes;

⁴ و صدقیای پادشاه قادر به فرار نخواهد بود و او را تحویل پادشاه بابل خواهند نمود و با او روبه‌رو می‌شود و با وی صحبت خواهد کرد.

⁵and he shall bring Zedekiah to Babylon, and he shall be there until I visit him, says Yahweh: though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not prosper?

⁵ صدقیا را به بابل خواهند برد و او در آنجا خواهد ماند تا من تصمیم بگیرم با او چگونه رفتار کنم. حتّی اگر او بخواهد با بابلی‌ها بجنگد، موفّق نخواهد شد. من خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

⁶Jeremiah said, The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

⁶ خداوند به من گفت که

⁷Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.

⁷ حنمئیل، پسر شلوم -‌عموی من‌- پیش من می‌آید و می‌خواهد مزرعهٔ او را در عناتوت، در سرزمین بنیامین بخرم. چون من، نزدیکترین قوم و خویش او بودم حق من بود که آن را بخرم.

⁸So Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Yahweh, and said to me, Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself. Then I knew that this was the word of Yahweh.

⁸ پس همان‌طور که خداوند گفته بود، حنمئیل به آنجا پیش من در محوطهٔ کاخ سلطنتی آمد و از من خواست مزرعه را بخرم. پس دانستم که خداوند حقیقتاً با من سخن گفته‌ است.

⁹I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

⁹ من مزرعه را از حنمئیل خریدم و بهای آن را پرداختم. قیمت مزرعه هفده تکه نقره شد.

¹⁰I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

¹⁰ من سند را در حضور چند شاهد مُهر و امضاء کردم، نقره را وزن نموده به او دادم.

¹¹So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, containing the terms and conditions, and that which was open;

¹¹ آنگاه من هر دو نسخهٔ سند -‌نسخه‌ای را که مُهر شده بود و حاوی قرارداد و شرایط آن بود، و نسخه دوم را که بدون مُهر و امضاء بود-

¹²and I delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses who subscribed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the guard.

¹² در حضور حنمئیل و شاهدانی که سند را امضاء کرده بودند و سایر مردانی که در حیاط کاخ نشسته بودند به باروک -‌پسر نیریا و نوه محسیا‌- دادم.

¹³I commanded Baruch before them, saying,

¹³ در برابر تمام آنها به باروک گفتم،

¹⁴Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase which is sealed, and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel; that they may continue many days.

¹⁴ «خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل به تو فرموده که تو باید هر دو نسخهٔ این سند را- نسخه‌ای که مُهر و امضاء شده و نسخه‌ای که مُهر و امضاء نشده‌- بگیری و در کوزه‌ای سفالی بگذاری تا سالهای زیادی باقی بماند.

¹⁵For thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall yet again be bought in this land.

¹⁵ خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل می‌گوید که باز هم در این سرزمین مردم خانه و مزرعه و تاکستان خواهند خرید.

¹⁶Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to Yahweh, saying,

¹⁶ بعد از آنکه من سَند خرید را به باروک دادم، در دعا گفتم: ‌

¹⁷Ah Lord Yahweh! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for you,

¹⁷ ‌ «ای خداوند، تو زمین و آسمان را با قدرت و توانایی عظیم خود آفریدی، هیچ چیز در برابر تو غیرممکن نیست.

¹⁸who show loving kindness to thousands, and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them; the great, the mighty God, Yahweh of Armies is his name;

¹⁸ محبّت تو به هزاران نفر پایدار بود امّا تو همچنین مردم را به‌خاطر گناه والدینشان مجازات می‌کنی. تو خدای عظیم و قدرتمند هستی؛ تو خداوند متعال می‌باشی.

¹⁹great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

¹⁹ تدبیرهای تو حکیمانه و کارهایت بزرگ است، هرچه آدمی می‌کند، تو می‌بینی و آنها را برحسب کردارشان پاداش می‌دهی.

²⁰who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men; and made yourself a name, as in this day;

²⁰ در گذشته‌های دور، در مصر نشانه‌ها و شگفتی‌های فراوانی نشان دادی و تا به امروز این کار را هم در اسرائیل و هم در میان سایر ملّتها ادامه می‌دهی و در نتیجه، امروز در همه‌جا شناخته شده‌ای.

²¹and brought forth your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;

²¹ با نشانه‌ها و شگفتی‌هایی که موجب وحشت دشمنان باشد، با قدرت و توانایی خویش قوم خود را از مصر بیرون آوردی.

²²and gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

²² موافق وعدهٔ خویش به اجدادشان، این سرزمین غنی و حاصلخیز را به آنها دادی.

²³and they came in, and possessed it, but they didn’t obey your voice, neither walked in your law; they have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do: therefore you have caused all this evil to come on them.

²³ امّا وقتی آنها به این سرزمین آمدند و آن را تصرّف کردند، از اطاعت از احکام تو سر باز زدند و مطابق تعالیم تو زندگی نکردند. آنها هیچ‌یک از دستورات تو را به کار نبردند و از این رو آنها را به این مصیبت گرفتار نمودی.

²⁴Behold, the mounds, they have come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence; and what you have spoken has happened; and behold, you see it.

²⁴ «بابلی‌ها برای محاصرهٔ شهر، سنگر گرفته‌اند و آماده حمله هستند. جنگ و گرسنگی و بیماری، این شهر را تسلیم آنها خواهد کرد و تمام گفته‌های تو به تحقّق پیوسته است.

²⁵You have said to me, Lord Yahweh, Buy the field for money, and call witnesses; whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

²⁵ با وجود این، ای خدای قادر، طبق دستور تو من این مزرعه را در حضور شاهدان -‌درحالی‌که شهر به تصرّف بابلی‌ها می‌افتد‌- خریدم.»

²⁶Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,

²⁶ آنگاه خداوند به من گفت:

²⁷Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

²⁷ «من خداوند، خدای تمام انسانها هستم. چیزی نیست که من قادر به انجام آن نباشم.

²⁸Therefore thus says Yahweh: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

²⁸ من این شهر را تسلیم نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل و ارتش او خواهم کرد و آنها آن را فتح می‌کنند و

²⁹and the Chaldeans, who fight against this city, shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses, on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

²⁹ به آتش خواهند کشید. آنها همه‌چیز را خواهند سوزانید، ‌از جمله خانه‌هایی که مردم بر پشت‌ بامهای خود برای بعل بُخور می‌سوزانیدند و به حضور خدایان بیگانه شراب تقدیم می‌کردند و با این کارها مرا به خشم می‌آوردند.

³⁰For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only that which was evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says Yahweh.

³⁰ از همان ابتدا، مردمان اسرائیل و یهودا با کارهای خود مرا ناخشنود و خشمگین می‌ساختند.

³¹For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

³¹ مردم این شهر از همان روز نخست که این شهر بنا شد، موجب خشم و غضب بودند و اکنون تصمیم به نابودی آن گرفتم

³²because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

³² و این به‌خاطر شرارت‌هایی است که مردم یهودا و اورشلیم به اتّفاق پادشاهان، رهبران، کاهنان و انبیای خویش مرتکب شده‌اند.

³³They have turned to me the back, and not the face: and though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.

³³ گرچه به تعلیم آنها ادامه دادم امّا آنها به من پشت کردند، به من گوش ندادند و چیزی نیاموختند.

³⁴But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

³⁴ آنها حتّی بُتهای منفور خود را به معبد بزرگی که برای پرستش من بنا شد آوردند و آن را ملوّث ساخته‌اند.

³⁵They built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through fire to Molech; which I didn’t command them, neither did it come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

³⁵ قربانگاههایی برای بعل در درّهٔ هنوم ساخته‌اند تا پسران و دختران خود را در حضور بت مولِک قربانی کنند. من چنین دستوری به آنها نداده‌ام و حتّی به فکرم نیز خطور نمی‌کرد که با ارتکاب چنین کارهایی باعث گناه مردم یهودا شوند.»

³⁶Now therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning this city, about which you say, It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence:

³⁶ خداوند، خدای اسرائیل، به من گفت: «ای ارمیا، مردم می‌گویند که جنگ و گرسنگی و بیماری باعث سقوط این شهر به دست پادشاه بابل شده است. اکنون به آنچه من می‌گویم گوش بده.

³⁷Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries, where I have driven them in my anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:

³⁷ من قوم را از تمام کشورهایی که آنها را از روی خشم پراکنده کرده بودم، جمع می‌کنم و به اینجا برمی‌گردانم و می‌گذارم آنها در اینجا در امن و امان زندگی کنند.

³⁸and they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

³⁸ بار دیگر آنها قوم من و من خدای ایشان خواهم بود.

³⁹and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and of their children after them:

³⁹ فکر و ذهنشان فقط متوجّه یک چیز خواهد بود، یعنی به‌خاطر خیریّت خودشان و فرزندانشان، همیشه حرمت مرا نگاه خواهند داشت.

⁴⁰and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me.

⁴⁰ با آنها پیمانی ابدی خواهم بست و از نیکی کردن به آنها، کوتاهی نخواهم کرد. ترس خود را در دلهایشان می‌گذارم تا دیگر هیچ‌وقت از من دور نشوند.

⁴¹Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

⁴¹ از احسان نمودن به ایشان خشنود خواهم شد و وعده می‌دهم که آنها را در این سرزمین مستقر خواهم ساخت.

⁴²For thus says Yahweh: Like as I have brought all this great evil on this people, so will I bring on them all the good that I have promised them.

⁴² «همان‌طور که آنها را گرفتار این مصیبت کردم، به همان نحو تمام برکاتی را که به آنها وعده داده‌ام، نصیبشان خواهم کرد.

⁴³Fields shall be bought in this land, about which you say, It is desolate, without man or animal; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

⁴³ مردم می‌گویند این سرزمین مثل بیابانی خواهد شد که نه انسان و نه حیوان می‌تواند در آن زندگی کند و به بابلی‌ها داده خواهد شد. امّا بار دیگر در این سرزمین مزارع خرید و فروش خواهد شد. مردم به خرید مزارع ادامه می‌دهند و سَنَدها در حضور شاهدان مهر و امضاء خواهد شد. این کار در همه‌جا در سرزمین بنیامین، در روستاهای اطراف اورشلیم، در شهرهای یهودا، کوهستان‌ها و کوهپایه‌ها، و در شهرهای جنوب یهودا ادامه خواهد یافت. من کامیابی این قوم را به ایشان بازمی‌گردانم. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

⁴⁴Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the deeds, and seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill country, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South: for I will cause their captivity to return, says Yahweh.

⁴⁴ مردم به خرید مزارع ادامه می‌دهند و سَنَدها در حضور شاهدان مهر و امضاء خواهد شد. این کار در همه‌جا در سرزمین بنیامین، در روستاهای اطراف اورشلیم، در شهرهای یهودا، کوهستان‌ها و کوهپایه‌ها، و در شهرهای جنوب یهودا ادامه خواهد یافت. من کامیابی این قوم را به ایشان بازمی‌گردانم. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»
