¹The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before that Pharaoh struck Gaza.

¹ پیش از آنکه فرعون به غزه حمله کند، خداوند دربارهٔ مردم فلسطین به من

²Thus says Yahweh: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and those who dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.

² چنین گفت: «ببین! موجهای آب در شمال برخاسته و مثل سیل خروشان، سرازیر می‌شود. این امواج تمام سرزمین و هرچه در آن است، تمام شهرها و مردم آن را خواهد پوشانید. مردم برای کمک فریاد برمی‌آورند و تمام مردم جهان سخت خواهند گریست.

³At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers don’t look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

³ آنها صداهای سُم اسبان، حرکت ارّابه‌ها و غلتیدن چرخها را خواهند شنید. پدرها برای کودکان خود برنمی‌گردند، از شدّت ترس امید خود را از دست داده‌اند.

⁴because of the day that comes to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains: for Yahweh will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.

⁴ زمان نابودی مردم فلسطین و زمان قطع کمک به صور و صیدون فرا رسیده است. من، خداوند، مردم فلسطین را با همهٔ کسانی‌که از سواحل کریت آمده‌اند، نابود خواهم کرد.

⁵Baldness has come on Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nothing, the remnant of their valley: how long will you cut yourself?

⁵ مردم غزه به غم بزرگی گرفتارند، و اهالی اشقلون در سکوت فرو رفته‌اند. تا به کی باید مردم فلسطین سوگوار باشند؟

⁶You sword of Yahweh, how long will it be before you be quiet? Put up yourself into your scabbard; rest, and be still.

⁶ شما فریادکنان خواهید گفت: «ای شمشیر خداوند! تا کی به کُشت و کشتار ادامه می‌دهی؟ به غلاف خود بازگرد و در آنجا آرام بگیر! امّا چگونه می‌تواند آرام بگیرد، درحالی‌که کارش را هنوز تمام نکرده است؟ من به آن دستور داده‌ام، به اشقلون و به مردمی که در ساحل دریا زندگی می‌کنند، حمله کند.»

⁷How can you be quiet, since Yahweh has given you a command? Against Ashkelon, and against the seashore, there has he appointed it.

⁷ امّا چگونه می‌تواند آرام بگیرد، درحالی‌که کارش را هنوز تمام نکرده است؟ من به آن دستور داده‌ام، به اشقلون و به مردمی که در ساحل دریا زندگی می‌کنند، حمله کند.»
