¹As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

¹ وقتی از محلی می‌گذشت، كور مادرزادی را دید.

²His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

² شاگردانش از او پرسیدند: «ای استاد، به علّت گناه چه کسی بود كه این مرد، نابینا به دنیا آمد؟ خود او گناهكار بود یا والدینش؟»

³Jesus answered, “Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but, that the works of God might be revealed in him.

³ عیسی جواب داد: «نه از گناه خودش بود و نه از والدینش، بلكه تا در وجود او كارهای خدا آشكار گردد.

⁴ I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.

⁴ تا وقتی روز است، باید كارهای فرستندهٔ خود را به انجام برسانیم. وقتی شب می‌آید کسی نمی‌تواند كار كند.

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

⁵ تا وقتی در جهان هستم، نور جهانم.»

⁶When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man’s eyes with the mud,

⁶ وقتی این را گفت آب دهان به زمین انداخت و با آن گل ساخت و گل را به چشمان كور مالید

⁷and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.

⁷ و به او گفت: «برو و در حوض سیلوحا (یعنی فرستاده) چشمهای خود را بشوی.» پس رفت و شست و با چشمان باز برگشت.

⁸The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind before, said, “Isn’t this he who sat and begged?”

⁸ پس همسایگان و کسانی‌که او را در وقتی‌که گدایی می‌کرد می‌شناختند گفتند: «آیا این همان شخصی نیست كه می‌نشست و گدایی می‌کرد؟»

⁹Others were saying, “It is he.” Still others were saying, “He looks like him.” He said, “I am he.”

⁹ بعضی گفتند: «این همان شخص است.» امّا دیگران گفتند: «نه این شخص به او شباهت دارد.» ولی او خودش گفت: «من همان شخص هستم.»

¹⁰They therefore were asking him, “How were your eyes opened?”

¹⁰ از او پرسیدند: «پس چشمان تو چگونه باز شد؟»

¹¹He answered, “A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash.’ So I went away and washed, and I received sight.”

¹¹ او در جواب گفت: «شخصی كه اسمش عیسی است گل ساخت و به چشمان من مالید و به من گفت كه به حوض سیلوحا بروم و بشویم. من هم رفتم و چشمهای خود را شستم و بینا شدم.»

¹²Then they asked him, “Where is he?” He said, “I don’t know.”

¹² آنها پرسیدند: «آن شخص كجاست؟» پاسخ داد: «نمی‌دانم.»

¹³They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees.

¹³ آنها آن مرد را كه قبلاً نابینا بود، نزد فریسیان بردند،

¹⁴It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.

¹⁴ زیرا عیسی در روز سبت گل ساخته و چشمان او را باز كرده بود.

¹⁵Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”

¹⁵ در این وقت فریسیان از او پرسیدند كه چگونه بینا شده است. آن مرد به آنان گفت: «او روی چشمانم گل مالید و من شستم و حالا می‌توانم ببینم.»

¹⁶Some therefore of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” There was division among them.

¹⁶ عدّه‌ای از فریسیان گفتند: «این شخص از جانب خدا نیست چون قانون سبت را رعایت نمی‌کند.» دیگران گفتند: «شخص گناهكار چگونه می‌تواند چنین معجزاتی بنماید؟» و در میان آنان دو دستگی به وجود آمد.

¹⁷Therefore they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”

¹⁷ آنها باز هم از آن شخص كه نابینا بود پرسیدند: «نظر تو دربارهٔ آن کسی‌که می‌گویی چشمان تو را باز كرد چیست؟» او پاسخ داد: «او یک نبی است.»

¹⁸The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,

¹⁸ ولی یهودیان باور نمی‌کردند كه آن مرد كور بوده و بینایی خود را باز یافته است تا اینكه والدین او را احضار كردند.

¹⁹and asked them, “Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”

¹⁹ از آنان پرسیدند: «آیا این مرد پسر شماست؟ آیا شهادت می‌دهید كه كور به دنیا آمده است؟ پس چگونه اكنون می‌تواند ببیند؟»

²⁰His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

²⁰ والدین آن شخص در جواب گفتند: «ما می‌دانیم كه او فرزند ما می‌باشد و نابینا به دنیا آمده است.

²¹but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”

²¹ امّا نمی‌دانیم اكنون چگونه می‌تواند ببیند یا چه كسی چشمان او را باز كرده است. از خودش بپرسید، او بالغ است و حرف خود را خواهد زد.»

²²His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

²² والدین او چون از یهودیان می‌ترسیدند این‌طور جواب دادند، زیرا یهودیان قبلاً توافق كرده بودند كه هركس اقرار كند كه عیسی، مسیح است او را از كنیسه اخراج نمایند.

²³Therefore his parents said, “He is of age. Ask him.”

²³ از این جهت والدین آن مرد گفتند: «از خودش بپرسید، او بالغ است.»

²⁴So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

²⁴ پس برای بار دوم آن مرد را كه قبلاً كور بود، احضار كرده گفتند: «سوگند یاد كن كه حقیقت را خواهی گفت. ما می‌دانیم كه این شخص گناهكار است.»

²⁵He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

²⁵ آن مرد پاسخ داد: «اینکه او گناهكار است یا نه من نمی‌دانم فقط یک چیز می‌دانم كه كور بودم و اكنون می‌بینم.»

²⁶They said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

²⁶ آنها پرسیدند: «با تو چه كرد؟ چگونه چشمان تو را باز نمود؟»

²⁷He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”

²⁷ جواب داد: «من همین حالا به شما گفتم و گوش ندادید. چرا می‌خواهید دوباره بشنوید؟ آیا شما هم می‌خواهید شاگرد او بشوید؟»

²⁸They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁸ پس به او دشنام دادند و گفتند: «خودت شاگرد او هستی، ما شاگرد موسی هستیم.

²⁹We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”

²⁹ ما می‌دانیم كه خدا با موسی سخن گفت ولی در مورد این شخص، ما نمی‌دانیم كه او از كجا آمده است.»

³⁰The man answered them, “How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

³⁰ آن مرد در جواب آنان گفت: «چیز عجیبی است كه شما نمی‌دانید او از كجا آمده است درحالی‌که چشمان مرا باز كرده است.

³¹We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him. Psalm 66:18, Proverbs 15:29; 28:9

³¹ همه می‌دانیم كه خدا دعای گناهكاران را نمی‌شنود ولی اگر کسی خداپرست باشد و ارادهٔ خدا را بجا آورد، خدا دعاهای او را می‌شنود.

³²Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.

³² از ابتدای پیدایش عالم شنیده نشده كه کسی چشمان كور مادرزادی را باز كرده باشد.

³³If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

³³ اگر این مرد از جانب خدا نیامده بود، نمی‌توانست کاری بكند.»

³⁴They answered him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” They threw him out.

³⁴ به او گفتند: «تو كه در گناه متولّد شده‌ای، به ما تعلیم می‌دهی؟» و بعد او را از كنیسه بیرون انداختند.

³⁵Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

³⁵ وقتی عیسی شنید كه او را از كنیسه بیرون کرده‌اند، او را پیدا كرد و از او پرسید: «آیا به پسر انسان ایمان داری؟»

³⁶He answered, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”

³⁶ آن مرد پاسخ داد: «ای آقا، كیست تا به او ایمان آورم؟»

³⁷Jesus said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.”

³⁷ عیسی به او گفت: «تو او را دیده‌ای و او همان کسی است كه اكنون با تو سخن می‌گوید.»

³⁸He said, “Lord, I believe!” and he worshiped him.

³⁸ او گفت: «خداوندا، ایمان دارم.» و در مقابل عیسی سجده كرد.

³⁹Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, that those who don’t see may see; and that those who see may become blind.”

³⁹ عیسی سپس گفت: «من به‌خاطر داوری به این جهان آمده‌ام تا كوران بینا و بینایان كور شوند.»

⁴⁰Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?”

⁴⁰ بعضی از فریسیان كه در اطراف او بودند این سخنان را شنیدند و به او گفتند: «آیا مقصودت این است كه ما هم كور هستیم؟» عیسی به ایشان گفت: «اگر كور می‌بودید گناهی نمی‌داشتید، امّا چون می‌گویید بینا هستیم، به همین دلیل هنوز در گناه هستید.»

⁴¹Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

⁴¹ عیسی به ایشان گفت: «اگر كور می‌بودید گناهی نمی‌داشتید، امّا چون می‌گویید بینا هستیم، به همین دلیل هنوز در گناه هستید.»
