1It happened, when Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,

وقتی خبر پیروزیهای یوشع به گوش یابین، پادشاه حاصور رسید، فوراً پیامهایی برای این پادشاهان فرستاد: یوباب پادشاه مادون، پادشاهان شمرون و اخشاف، پادشاهان کوهستان شمالی، پادشاهان دشت اردن در جنوب دریاچهٔ جلیل و هامون، پادشاهان نافوت دور در غرب، پادشاهان کنعان در سمت شرق و غرب، پادشاهان اموریان، پادشاهان حِتّیان، پادشاهان فرزیان، پادشاهان یبوسیان در کوهستان، پادشاهان حویان در دامنهٔ کوه حرمون در سرزمین مصفه.
2and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill country, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

آنها همگی قوای خود را جمع کرده، یک ارتش متّحد تشکیل دادند که مثل ریگ دریا بیشمار بود. آنها با اسبان و ارّابههای جنگی در کنار چشمههای میرُوم اردو زده، برای جنگ با اسرائیل آماده شدند.
3to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «نترس، زیرا فردا در همین وقت همهٔ آنها را کشته، به دست مردم اسرائیل تسلیم میکنم. زردپی پاهای اسبان ایشان را قطع کنید و ارّابههای آنها را آتش بزنید.»
4They went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is on the seashore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots.

پس یوشع با مردان خود به میرُوم رفت و با یک حملهٔ ناگهانی، آنها را شکست داد.
5All these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

خداوند آنها را به دست مردم اسرائیل تسلیم کرد. و سربازان اسرائیل، دشمنان را تا به صیدون بزرگ و مسرفوت مایم در شمال و دشت مصفه در شرق تعقیب کرده کشتند و یکی از آنها را هم زنده نگذاشتند.
6Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

پس یوشع همانطور که خداوند امر فرموده بود، با آنها رفتار نمود، زردپی پاهای اسبهای ایشان راقطع کرد و تمام ارّابههای ایشان را آتش زد.
7So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell on them.

یوشع در راه بازگشت، حاصور را تصرّف کرد و پادشاه آن را کشت، زیرا حاصور در آن زمان نیرومندترین شهر بود.
8Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them, and chased them to great Sidon, and to Misrephoth Maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward. They struck them until they left them none remaining.

همهٔ ساکنان آنجا را با شمشیر کشت و هیچ جانداری را زنده نگذاشت و حاصور را نیز به آتش کشید.
9Joshua did to them as Yahweh told him. He hamstrung their horses and burnt their chariots with fire.

بعد به شهرهای دیگر هم حمله کرد. همه را از بین برد و پادشاهان آنها را به قتل رسانید. همانطور که موسی، خادم خداوند، دستور داده بود.
10Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword: for Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms.

امّا یوشع از میان تمام شهرهایی که بر روی تپّهها بنا شده بودند، فقط حاصور را آتش زد.
11They struck all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was no one left who breathed. He burnt Hazor with fire.

تمام غنیمت و گلّه و رمهای را که بنیاسرائیل به دست آوردند، برای خود نگه داشتند، امّا همهٔ مردم را با دَم شمشیر کشتند و هیچکس را زنده نگذاشتند.
12Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded.

یوشع طبق دستور خداوند به خادم خود موسی، و راهنمایی موسی رفتار کرد و همهٔ اوامر خداوند را کاملاً انجام داد.
13But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except Hazor only. Joshua burned that.

به این ترتیب یوشع تمام آن سرزمین را تصرّف کرد. یعنی همهٔ کوهستانها، منطقهٔ جنوبی، منطقهٔ جوشن، دشتها، کوهستانهای اسرائیل و دشت اردن.
14The children of Israel took all the spoil of these cities, with the livestock, as spoils for themselves; but every man they struck with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them. They didn’t leave any who breathed.

قلمرو اسرائیل از کوه حالق، در نزدیکی اَدوم، تا بعل جاد در دشت لبنان، در دامنهٔ کوه حرمون وسعت یافت و یوشع پادشاهان آنها را دستگیر کرد و به قتل رساند.
15As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that Yahweh commanded Moses.

این جنگها سالهای زیادی طول کشید.
16So Joshua captured all that land, the hill country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, the Arabah, the hill country of Israel, and the lowland of the same;

تنها شهری که با اسرائیل صلح کرد جبعون بود که حویان در آن ساکن بودند. ولی همهٔ شهرهای دیگر را تصرّف کردند و از بین بردند.
17from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death.

چون این خواست خدا بود که دلهای آنها سخت گردد و به جنگ با اسرائیل برخیزند. در نتیجه همگی آنها بدون هیچ ترحّمی کشته شدند. چنانکه خداوند به موسی فرموده بود.
18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
18
در این زمان یوشع، عناقیانی را که در منطقهٔ کوهستانی حبرون، دبیر، عناب و کوههای یهودا و اسرائیل زندگی میکردند، کشت و آنها را با شهرهایشان بکلّی نابود کرد.
19There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle.

از عناقیان یک نفر هم در سرزمین اسرائیل زنده نماند، امّا بعضی از آنها در غزه، جت و اشدود باقی ماندند.
به این ترتیب یوشع، طبق دستور خداوند به موسی، تمام آن سرزمین را تصرّف نمود و آن را به عنوان ملکیّت به بنیاسرائیل داد و سپس آن را بین تمام طایفههای بنیاسرائیل تقسیم کرد.
سرانجام در آن سرزمین آرامی برقرار شد.
20For it was of Yahweh to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

به این ترتیب یوشع، طبق دستور خداوند به موسی، تمام آن سرزمین را تصرّف نمود و آن را به عنوان ملکیّت به بنیاسرائیل داد و سپس آن را بین تمام طایفههای بنیاسرائیل تقسیم کرد.
سرانجام در آن سرزمین آرامی برقرار شد.
21Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.
22There were none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.
23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh spoke to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. The land had rest from war.
