¹Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men The word for “wise men” (magoi) can also mean teachers, scientists, physicians, astrologers, seers, interpreters of dreams, or sorcerers. from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,

¹ عیسی در زمان زمامداری هیرودیس پادشاه، در بیت‌لحم یهودیه تولّد یافت. پس از تولّد او مجوسیانی از مشرق زمین به اورشلیم آمده

²“Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”

² پرسیدند: «پادشاه نوزاد یهودیان كجاست؟ ما طلوع ستارهٔ او را دیده و برای پرستش او آمده‌ایم.»

³When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

³ وقتی هیرودیس پادشاه این را شنید، بسیار مضطرب شد و تمام مردم اورشلیم نیز در اضطراب فرو رفتند.

⁴Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.

⁴ او جلسه‌ای با شركت سران كاهنان و علمای قوم یهود تشكیل داد و دربارهٔ محل تولّد مسیح موعود از ایشان پرسید.

⁵They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,

⁵ آنها جواب دادند: «در بیت‌لحم یهودیه، زیرا در كتاب نبی چنین آمده است:

⁶‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’” Micah 5:2

⁶ 'ای بیت‌لحم، در سرزمین یهودیه، تو به هیچ وجه از سایر فرمانروایان یهودا كمتر نیستی، زیرا از تو پیشوایی ظهور خواهد كرد كه قوم من اسرائیل را رهبری خواهد نمود.'»

⁷Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.

⁷ آنگاه هیرودیس از مجوسیان خواست به طور محرمانه با او ملاقات كنند و به این ترتیب از وقت دقیق ظهور ستاره آگاه شد.

⁸He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”

⁸ بعد از آن، آنها را به بیت‌لحم فرستاده گفت: «بروید و با دقّت به دنبال آن كودک بگردید و همین‌که او را یافتید به من خبر دهید تا من هم بیایم و او را پرستش نمایم.»

⁹They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.

⁹ آنان بنا به فرمان پادشاه حركت كردند و ستاره‌ای كه طلوعش را دیده بودند، پیشاپیش آنان می‌رفت تا در بالای مكانی كه كودک در آن بود، توقّف كرد.

¹⁰When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

¹⁰ وقتی ستاره را دیدند، بی‌نهایت خوشحال شدند.

¹¹They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

¹¹ پس به آن خانه وارد شدند و كودک را با مادرش مریم دیده و به روی در افتاده او را پرستش كردند. آنگاه صندوقهای خود را باز كردند و هدایایی شامل طلا و كُندُر و مُرّ به او تقدیم نمودند.

¹²Being warned in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.

¹² چون در عالم خواب به آنان اخطار شد كه به نزد هیرودیس بازنگردند، از راهی دیگر به وطن خود برگشتند.

¹³Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”

¹³ پس از رفتن آنان فرشتهٔ خداوند در خواب به یوسف ظاهر شده گفت: «برخیز، كودک و مادرش را بردار و به مصر فرار كن و تا وقتی‌که به تو بگویم در آنجا بمان، زیرا هیرودیس می‌خواهد كودک را پیدا كند و به قتل برساند.»

¹⁴He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,

¹⁴ پس یوسف برخواست و مادر و طفل را برداشته، در همان شب عازم مصر شد

¹⁵and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” Hosea 11:1

¹⁵ و تا وقت مرگ هیرودیس در آنجا ماند و به این وسیلهٔ سخنی كه خداوند به زبان نبی فرموده بود، تحقّق یافت كه: «پسر خود را از مصر فراخواندم.»

¹⁶Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.

¹⁶ وقتی هیرودیس متوجّه شد كه مجوسیان او را فریب داده‌اند، بسیار غضبناک شد و فرمان قتل عام پسران دو ساله و كمتر را در بیت‌لحم و تمام حومهٔ آن طبق تاریخی كه از مجوسیان جویا شده بود، صادر كرد.

¹⁷Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,

¹⁷ به این ترتیب كلماتی كه به وسیلهٔ ارمیای نبی بیان شده بود، به حقیقت پیوست:

¹⁸“A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn’t be comforted, because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15

¹⁸ «صدایی در رامه به گوش رسید. صدای گریه و ماتم عظیم. راحیل برای فرزندان خود گریه می‌کرد و تسلّی نمی‌پذیرفت زیرا آنان از بین رفته‌اند.»

¹⁹But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,

¹⁹ پس از درگذشت هیرودیس، فرشتهٔ خداوند در مصر در عالم خواب به یوسف ظاهر شده

²⁰“Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.”

²⁰ به او گفت: «برخیز، كودک و مادرش را بردار و به سرزمین اسرائیل روانه شو زیرا آن کسانی‌که قصد جان كودک را داشتند درگذشته‌اند.»

²¹He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

²¹ پس او برخاسته كودک و مادرش را برداشت و به سرزمین اسرائیل برگشت.

²²But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,

²² ولی وقتی شنید كه آركلائوس به جای پدر خود هیرودیس در یهودیه به فرمانروایی رسیده است، ترسید كه به آنجا برود و چون در خواب به او وحی رسید، به سرزمین جلیل رفت و در‌ آنجا در شهری به نام ناصره ساكن شد. به این طریق پیشگویی انبیا كه گفته بودند: «او ناصری خوانده خواهد شد.» تحقّق یافت.

²³and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

²³ و در‌ آنجا در شهری به نام ناصره ساكن شد. به این طریق پیشگویی انبیا كه گفته بودند: «او ناصری خوانده خواهد شد.» تحقّق یافت.
