¹It happened in the fourth year of king Darius that the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.

¹ در چهارمین سال سلطنت داریوش شاهنشاه، در روز چهارمِ ماهِ نهم، یعنی ماه کِسلو، پیام دیگری از جانب خداوند برای من رسید.

²The people of Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem Melech, and their men, to entreat Yahweh’s favor,

² مردم شهر بیت‌ئیل، شرآصر و رَجمِ ملک را با عدّه‌ای از مردان دیگر به معبد بزرگ فرستادند تا از درگاه خداوند برکت بطلبند

³and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies, and to the prophets, saying, “Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”

³ و از کاهنان خداوند متعال و انبیا بپرسند: «آیا به روزه و سوگواری خود در ماه پنجم ادامه بدهیم یا نه، چنانکه سالها این کار را کرده‌ایم؟»

⁴Then the word of Yahweh of Armies came to me, saying,

⁴ خداوند متعال به من چنین فرمود:

⁵“Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month for these seventy years, did you at all fast to me, really to me?

⁵ «به تمام مردم و کاهنان این سرزمین بگو که در مدّت هفتاد سالی که در ماههای پنجم و هفتم روزه می‌گرفتید و سوگواری می‌کردید، برای خشنودی من نبود.

⁶When you eat, and when you drink, don’t you eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

⁶ اکنون هم، وقتی می‌خورید و می‌نوشید، آیا فقط به‌خاطر خودتان نیست؟

⁷Aren’t these the words which Yahweh proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and its cities around her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?’”

⁷ «سالها پیش، وقتی اورشلیم کامیاب و پُر از جمعیّت بود و شهرهای اطراف و جنوب آن هم مسکونی بودند، به وسیلهٔ انبیای پیشین همین هشدارها را به شما دادم.»

⁸The word of Yahweh came to Zechariah, saying,

⁸ سپس این پیام از جانب خداوند متعال برای زکریا آمد:

⁹“Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying, ‘Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.

⁹ «سالها پیش، این دستورات را به شما دادم: 'عادلانه قضاوت کنید. به یکدیگر محبّت و شفقت نشان بدهید.

¹⁰Don’t oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’

¹⁰ به بیوه زنان، یتیمان و مردم بیگانه و فقیری که در بین شما زندگی می‌کنند ظلم نکنید و برای یکدیگر توطئه نچینید.'

¹¹But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

¹¹ «نیاکان شما نافرمانی کردند و گوشهای خود را گرفتند تا کلام مرا نشنوند.

¹²Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law, and the words which Yahweh of Armies had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Yahweh of Armies.

¹² آنها دلهای خود را مثل سنگ سخت ساختند و نخواستند احکامی را که من، خداوند متعال با روح خود، توسط انبیای پیشین به آنها داده بودم، بشنوند؛ بنابراین خشم عظیم خود را بر آنها نازل کردم.

¹³It has come to pass that, as he called, and they refused to listen, so they will call, and I will not listen,” said Yahweh of Armies;

¹³ چون وقتی من با آنها سخن گفتم، آنها به کلام من توجّه ننمودند، من هم وقتی آنها به درگاه من دعا کردند، دعایشان را نشنیدم. پس آنها را با گردباد در بین اقوام بیگانه پراکنده ساختم و به این ترتیب سرزمین آباد ایشان چنان ویران شد که یک نفر هم در آن سکونت نمی‌کرد.»

¹⁴“but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they made the pleasant land desolate.”

¹⁴ پس آنها را با گردباد در بین اقوام بیگانه پراکنده ساختم و به این ترتیب سرزمین آباد ایشان چنان ویران شد که یک نفر هم در آن سکونت نمی‌کرد.»
