¹Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,

¹Ora, são estas as palavras da carta que Jeremias, o profeta, enviou de Jerusalém, aos que restavam dos anciãos do cativeiro, como também aos sacerdotes, e aos profetas, e a todo o povo, que Nabucodonozor levara cativos de Jerusalém para Babilônia,

²(after that Jeconiah the king, the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the smiths, had departed from Jerusalem),

²depois de terem saído de Jerusalém o rei Jeconias, e a rainha-mãe, e os eunucos, e os príncipes de Judá e Jerusalém e os artífices e os ferreiros.

³by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), saying,

³Veio por mão de Elasa, filho de Safã, e de Gemarias, filho de Hilquias, os quais Zedequias, rei de Judá, enviou a Babilônia, a Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia; eis as palavras da carta:

⁴Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, to all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:

⁴Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel, a todos os do cativeiro, que eu fiz levar cativos de Jerusalém para Babilônia:

⁵Build houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat their fruit.

⁵Edificai casas e habitai-as; plantai jardins, e comei o seu fruto.

⁶Take wives, and father sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and don’t be diminished.

⁶Tomai mulheres e gerai filhos e filhas; também tomai mulheres para vossos filhos, e dai vossas filhas a maridos, para que tenham filhos e filhas; assim multiplicai-vos ali, e não vos diminuais.

⁷Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you shall have peace.

⁷E procurai a paz da cidade, para a qual fiz que fôsseis levados cativos, e orai por ela ao Senhor: porque na sua paz vós tereis paz.

⁸For thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Don’t let your prophets who are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you; neither listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.

⁸Pois assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Não vos enganem os vossos profetas que estão no meio de vós, nem os vossos adivinhadores; nem deis ouvidos aos vossos sonhos, que vós sonhais;

⁹For they prophesy falsely to you in my name: I have not sent them, says Yahweh.

⁹porque eles vos profetizam falsamente em meu nome; não os enviei, diz o Senhor.

¹⁰For thus says Yahweh, After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

¹⁰Porque assim diz o Senhor: Certamente que passados setenta anos em Babilônia, eu vos visitarei, e cumprirei sobre vós a minha boa palavra, tornando a trazer-vos a este lugar.

¹¹For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

¹¹Pois eu bem sei os planos que estou projetando para vós, diz o Senhor; planos de paz, e não de mal, para vos dar um futuro e uma esperança.

¹²You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

¹²Então me invocareis, e ireis e orareis a mim, e eu vos ouvirei.

¹³You shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.

¹³Buscar-me-eis, e me achareis, quando me buscardes de todo o vosso coração.

¹⁴I will be found by you, says Yahweh, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you, says Yahweh; and I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.

¹⁴E serei achado de vós, diz o Senhor, e farei voltar os vossos cativos, e congregarvos-ei de todas as nações, e de todos os lugares para onde vos lancei, diz o Senhor; e tornarei a trazer-vos ao lugar de onde vos transportei.

¹⁵Because you have said, Yahweh has raised us up prophets in Babylon;

¹⁵Porque dizeis: O Senhor nos levantou profetas em Babilônia;

¹⁶thus says Yahweh concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who haven’t gone forth with you into captivity;

¹⁶portanto assim diz o Senhor a respeito do rei que se assenta no trono de Davi, e de todo o povo que habita nesta cidade, vossos irmãos, que não saíram convosco para o cativeiro;

¹⁷thus says Yahweh of Armies; Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that can’t be eaten, they are so bad.

¹⁷assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Eis que enviarei entre eles a espada, a fome e a peste e fá-los-ei como a figos péssimos, que não se podem comer, de ruins que são.

¹⁸I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations where I have driven them;

¹⁸E persegui-los-ei com a espada, com a fome e com a peste; farei que sejam um espetáculo de terror para todos os reinos da terra, e para serem um motivo de execração, de espanto, de assobio, e de opróbrio entre todas as nações para onde os tiver lançado,

¹⁹because they have not listened to my words, says Yahweh, with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear, says Yahweh.

¹⁹porque não deram ouvidos �s minhas palavras, diz o Senhor, as quais lhes enviei com insistência pelos meus servos, os profetas; mas vós não escutastes, diz o Senhor.

²⁰Hear therefore the word of Yahweh, all you of the captivity, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

²⁰Ouvi, pois, a palavra do Senhor, vós todos os do cativeiro que enviei de Jerusalém para Babilônia.

²¹Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall kill them before your eyes;

²¹Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel, acerca de Acabe, filho de Colaías, e de Zedequias, filho de Maaséias, que vos profetizam falsamente em meu nome: Eis que os entregarei na mão de Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, e ele os matará diante dos vossos olhos.

²²and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

²²E por causa deles será formulada uma maldição por todos os exilados de Judá que estão em Babilônia, dizendo: O Senhor te faça como a Zedequias, e como a Acabe, os quais o rei de Babilônia assou no fogo;

²³because they have worked folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didn’t command them; and I am he who knows, and am witness, says Yahweh.

²³porque fizeram insensatez em Israel, cometendo adultério com as mulheres de seus próximos, e anunciando falsamente em meu nome palavras que não lhes mandei. Eu o sei, e sou testemunha disso, diz o Senhor.

²⁴Concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite you shall speak, saying,

²⁴E a Semaías, o neelamita, falarás, dizendo:

²⁵Thus speaks Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, saying, Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

²⁵Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Porquanto enviaste em teu próprio nome cartas a todo o povo que está em Jerusalém, como também a Sofonias, filho de Maaséias, o sacerdote, e a todos os sacerdotes, dizendo:

²⁶Yahweh has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Yahweh, for every man who is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.

²⁶O Senhor te pôs por sacerdote em lugar de Jeoiada, o sacerdote, para que fosses encarregado da casa do Senhor, sobre todo homem obsesso que profetiza, para o lançares na prisão e no tronco;

²⁷Now therefore, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you,

²⁷agora, pois, por que não repreendeste a Jeremias, o anatotita, que vos profetiza?

²⁸because he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, The captivity is long: build houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat their fruit?

²⁸Pois que até nos mandou dizer em Babilônia: O cativeiro muito há de durar; edificai casas, e habitai-as; e plantai jardins, e comei do seu fruto.

²⁹Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

²⁹E lera Sofonias, o sacerdote, esta carta aos ouvidos de Jeremias, o profeta.

³⁰Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,

³⁰Então veio a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias, dizendo:

³¹Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus says Yahweh concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I didn’t send him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie;

³¹Manda a todos os do cativeiro, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor acerca de Semaías, o neelamita: Porquanto Semaías vos profetizou, quando eu não o enviei, e vos fez confiar numa mentira,

³²therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he see the good that I will do to my people, says Yahweh, because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh.

³²portanto assim diz o Senhor: Eis que castigarei a Semaías, o neelamita, e a sua descendência; ele não terá varão que habite entre este povo, nem verá ele o bem que hei de fazer ao meu povo, diz o Senhor, porque pregou rebelião contra o Senhor.
