¹Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.

¹Moji bratia, nebuďte mnohí učiteľmi vediac, že budeme prísnejšie súdení.

²For in many things we all stumble. If anyone doesn’t stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

²Lebo mnoho klesáme všetci. Ak niekto neklesá v slove, to je dokonalý muž, ktorý má moc pojať na úzdu i celé telo.

³Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.

³Hľa, koňom dávame zubadlá do úst, aby nás poslúchaly, a tak sem i ta obraciame celé ich telo.

⁴Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.

⁴Hľa, i lode, hoci sú také veľké a hnané krutými vetry, dajú sa sem i ta obrátiť najmenším kormidlom, kamkoľvek sa ľúbi pohnať tomu, kto ju spravuje.

⁵So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!

⁵Tak i jazyk je malý úd a veľkým sa honosí. Hľa, maličký oheň akú veľkú horu zapáli!

⁶And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. or, Hell

⁶I jazyk je oheň, svet neprávosti; takým stáva sa jazyk medzi našimi údami, ktorý poškvrňuje celé telo a rozplameňuje kolo života od narodenia a je rozplameňovaný peklom.

⁷For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and thing in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind.

⁷Lebo ľudská príroda krotí a zkrotila každú prírodu divých zvierat i vtákov i zemeplazov i morských potvôr;

⁸But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

⁸ale jazyk nemôže nikto z ľudí skrotiť, nepokojné zlo, plný smrťonosného jedu.

⁹With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God.

⁹Ním dobrorečíme Pánovi, Bohu a Otcovi, a ním zlorečíme ľuďom, stvoreným na podobu Božiu;

¹⁰Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

¹⁰z tých istých úst vychádza dobrorečenie i zlorečenie. Nemá to tak byť, moji bratia!

¹¹Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?

¹¹Či azda prameň z toho istého žriedla prýska sladkú a horkú vodu?

¹²Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.

¹²Či môže, moji bratia, fík rodiť olivky alebo vinič fíky? Tak ani niktorý prameň nemôže vydať slanú i sladkú vodu.

¹³Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.

¹³Kto je múdry a rozumný medzi vami? Nech ukáže zo svojho pekného obcovania svoje skutky v múdrej a krotkej tichosti!

¹⁴But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.

¹⁴Ale ak máte horkú závisť a svár vo svojom srdci, nechváľte sa a neluhajte proti pravde.

¹⁵This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.

¹⁵Tá múdrosť neprichádza s hora, ale je pozemská, telesná, démonská.

¹⁶For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

¹⁶Lebo kde je závisť a svár, tam je aj nepokoj i každá zlá vec.

¹⁷But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

¹⁷Ale múdrosť s hora je ponajprv čistotná, potom pokojná, prívetivá, povoľná, plná milosrdenstva a dobrého ovocia, nepochybujúca a nepokrytecká.

¹⁸Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

¹⁸A ovocie spravedlivosti seje sa v pokoji tým, ktorí pôsobia pokoj.
