1Slovo Hospodinovo, ktoré sa stalo k prorokovi Jeremiášovi proti Filištínom prv ako zbil faraon Gazu.
2Thus says Yahweh: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and those who dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
2Takto hovorí Hospodin: Hľa, vody vystupujú hore od severa a obrátia sa na rozvodnený potok a zaplavia zem i jej náplň, mesto i tých, ktorí bývajú v ňom. Preto budú kričať ľudia a kvíliť budú všetci obyvatelia zeme.
3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers don’t look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
3Pre zvuk dupotu kopýt jeho mocných koní; pre hrmot jeho vozov, pre hrkot jeho kolies neobzrú sa otcovia na synov, pre ochablosť rúk,

6Beda, meč Hospodinov! Dokedy ešte sa neupokojíš? Navráť sa do svojej pošvy, utíš sa a umĺkni!
7How can you be quiet, since Yahweh has given you a command? Against Ashkelon, and against the seashore, there has he appointed it.
7Ale jakože sa upokojíš?! - Veď mu rozkázal Hospodin! Proti Aškalonu a proti brehu mora, ta ho postavil.
