1Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
1In Roboam je šel v Sihem, kajti ves Izrael se je sešel v Sihemu, da ga postavijo za kralja.
2It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon), that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
2In zgodi se, ko je slišal o tem Jeroboam, sin Nebatov (bil je namreč v Egiptu, kamor je bil zbežal izpred kralja Salomona), da se vrne iz Egipta.
3They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
3In pošljejo ter ga pokličejo. In pride Jeroboam in ves Izrael ter ogovore Roboama, rekoč:
4“Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
4Oče tvoj nam je preobtežal jarem; sedaj torej nam polajšaj pretrdo službo očeta svojega in težki jarem, ki nam ga je naložil, in bomo ti služili.
5He said to them, “Come again to me after three days.” The people departed.
5In on jim reče: Pridite zopet k meni po treh dneh. In ljudstvo odide.
6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?”
6In kralj Roboam se je posvetoval s starci, ki so stali v službi pred Salomonom, očetom njegovim, ko je še živel, in reče: Kako svetujete, da naj odgovorim temu ljudstvu?
7They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
7In mu odgovore, rekoč: Ako boš dobrotljiv temu ljudstvu in jim ugodiš in jim izpregovoriš prijazne besede, ti bodo hlapci vse dni.
8But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
8Ali on je zavrgel svet starcev, ki so mu ga dali, in se je posvetoval z mladeniči, ki so zrasli ž njim, ki so stali v službi pred njim.
9He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’”
9In jih vpraša: Kaj svetujete, da naj odgovorimo temu ljudstvu, ki so govorili meni, rekoč: Polajšaj jarem, ki ga nam je naložil oče tvoj!
10The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
10Tedaj mu reko mladiči, ki so ž njim zrasli: Ljudstvu, ki ti je dejalo: Oče tvoj nam je preobtežal jarem, ti pa nam ga polajšaj! odgovóri takole: Moj mali prst je večji nego očeta mojega ledje.
11Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
11Sedaj torej, če vas je obremenil oče moj s težkim jarmom, jaz še pridenem jarmu vašemu; oče moj vas je tepel z biči, jaz pa vas bom s trnovkami.
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”
12Tedaj pride Jeroboam in vse ljudstvo k Roboamu tretji dan, kakor je kralj velel, rekoč: Pridite k meni zopet tretji dan.
13The king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
13In kralj Roboam odgovori ljudstvu trdo, kajti zavrgel je svet starcev
14and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
14in jim govoril po svetu mladičev takole: Oče moj vam je naložil težek jarem, jaz pa še pridenem; oče moj vas je tepel z biči, jaz pa vas bom s trnovkami.
15So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
15Kralj torej ni uslišal ljudstva, kajti Bog je tako vodil, da potrdi GOSPOD besedo svojo, ki jo je govoril po Ahiju Silonskem Jeroboamu, sinu Nebatovemu.
16When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.
16In ko je videl ves Izrael, da jih kralj ni uslišal, odgovori ljudstvo kralju in reče: Kakšen delež nam je v Davidu? in dediščine nimamo v sinu Jesejevem. Vsakdo k svojim šatorom, o Izrael! Sedaj glej hišo svojo, David! In ves Izrael se je razšel v šatore svoje.
17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
17Samo sinovom Izraelovim, ki so prebivali v Judovih mestih, je kraljeval Roboam.
18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
18Nato pošlje kralj Roboam Hadoroma, ki je bil nad roboto, a sinovi Izraelovi so ga posuli s kamenjem, da je umrl. In pohiti kralj Roboam in stopi na svoj voz, da pobegne v Jeruzalem.Tako je odstopil Izrael od hiše Davidove do tega dne.
