1Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron, and spoke, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.
1Tedaj pridejo vsi rodovi Izraelovi k Davidu v Hebron in ga ogovore, rekoč: Glej, kost smo tvoja in meso tvoje.
2In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. Yahweh said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’”

3So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Yahweh; and they anointed David king over Israel.
3Tako so prišli vsi starejšine Izraelovi h kralju v Hebron; in kralj David je sklenil ž njimi zavezo v Hebronu pred GOSPODOM. In pomazilili so Davida za kralja Izraelu.
4David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

5In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.
5V Hebronu je kraljeval Judi sedem let in šest mesecev, v Jeruzalemu pa je kraljeval triintrideset let vsemu Izraelu in Judi.
6The king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, “Unless you take away the blind and the lame, you shall not come in here”; thinking, “David can’t come in here.”
6In kralj in možje njegovi so šli v Jeruzalem zoper Jebusejce, prebivalce v deželi. Ti so govorili Davidu: Ne prideš sem noter, temuč slepci in hromci te odženejo – meneč, David ne more priti tja.
7Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.
7Vendar pa je David dobil grad Sion, to je mesto Davidovo.
8David said on that day, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites, let him get up to the watercourse, and strike the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul.” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame can’t come into the house.”
8Kajti David je dejal tisti dan: Kdor premaga Jebusejce in pride do žlebov in porazi tiste hromce in slepce, ki jih sovraži duša Davidova, bodi poglavar! Odtod pravijo: Slepci in hromci ne pridejo v hišo!
9David lived in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. David built around from Millo and inward.
9In David se je nastanil v tem gradu in ga je imenoval mesto Davidovo. In David je zidal okoli ob Milu in znotraj.
10David grew greater and greater; for Yahweh, the God of Armies, was with him.
10In David je bolj in bolj napredoval, zakaj GOSPOD, Bog nad vojskami, je bil ž njim.
11Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons; and they built David a house.

12David perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

13David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron; and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
13In David si je vzel še več priležnic in žen v Jeruzalemu, potem ko je prišel iz Hebrona; in rodilo se je Davidu še več sinov in hčerá.
14These are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

15and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

17When the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the stronghold.
17Ko pa Filistejci začujejo, da so pomazilili Davida za kralja nad Izraelom, krenejo vsi gori iskat Davida; David pa, ko je zvedel, odide doli v grad.
18Now the Philistines had come and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

19David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” Yahweh said to David, “Go up; for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
19In David je vprašal GOSPODA, rekoč: Ali naj grem gori zoper Filistejce? In jih li hočeš dati v roko mojo? GOSPOD pa veli Davidu: Pojdi gori, kajti gotovo ti dam Filistejce v roko!
20David came to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there; and he said, “Yahweh has broken my enemies before me, like the breach of waters.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
20In David pride v Baalperazim [T. j. mesto pretrga.] in jih porazi ondi ter reče: GOSPOD je raztrgal sovražnike moje pred menoj, kakor ko vode pretrgajo jez. Zato je imenoval ime tistega kraja Baalperazim.
21They left their images there; and David and his men took them away.
21In pustili so svoje malike ondi, David pa in možje njegovi so jih odnesli.
22The Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
22In Filistejci pridejo zopet gori ter se razpostavijo v dolini Refaimov.
23When David inquired of Yahweh, he said, “You shall not go up. Circle around behind them, and attack them over against the mulberry trees.
23In ko David vpraša GOSPODA, mu veli: Ne hodi gori, temuč obidi jih zadaj za njimi, da prideš nadnje od strani murvovih dreves.
24It shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall stir yourself up; for then Yahweh has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”
24In ko začuješ šumenje iz vrhov dreves, kakor da prihaja vojska, tedaj se podvizaj: zakaj tedaj gre GOSPOD pred teboj, da premaga vojsko Filistejcev.In David je storil, kakor mu je bil zapovedal GOSPOD, in pobijal je Filistejce od Gebe do tja, koder se hodi v Gezer.
25David did so, as Yahweh commanded him, and struck the Philistines from Geba until you come to Gezer.
