¹Hear the word which Yahweh speaks to you, house of Israel!

¹Poslušajte to besedo, ki jo vam govori GOSPOD, o hiša Izraelova!

²Thus says Yahweh, “Don’t learn the way of the nations, and don’t be dismayed at the signs of the sky; for the nations are dismayed at them.

²Tako pravi GOSPOD: Ne učite se pota poganskih narodov in ne plašite se znamenj nebeških, ker se jih plašijo tisti narodi.

³For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe.

³Kajti postave ljudstev so ničemurnost; zakaj samo les je, ki ga kdo poseka v gozdu, delo roke in sekire umetnikove.

⁴They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move.

⁴Naredi ga lepega s srebrom in zlatom; pritrdijo ga z žeblji in kladivi, da se ne zvrne.

⁵They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don’t speak: they must be carried, because they can’t go. Don’t be afraid of them; for they can’t do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”

⁵Kakor ostrugani stebri so maliki, še govore ne; nositi jih je treba, ker ne morejo hoditi. Ne bojte se jih, ker ne morejo storiti hudega, tudi dobro delati ni v njih moči.

⁶There is none like you, Yahweh; you are great, and your name is great in might.

⁶Prav nihče ni tebi enak, o Jehova; ti si velik in veliko je ime tvoje v moči.

⁷Who should not fear you, King of the nations? For it appertains to you; because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like you.

⁷Kdo bi se te ne bal, o Kralj narodov! ker tebi se spodobi. Zakaj med vsemi modrimi pri narodih in v vseh njih kraljestvih ni nobeden tebi enak,

⁸But they are together brutish and foolish: the instruction of idols! it is but a stock.

⁸temuč vsi skupaj so nespametni in trapasti. Pouk malikov je njim enak: les.

⁹There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skillful men.

⁹Srebrne ploščice vozijo iz Tarsisa in zlato iz Ufaza, delo umetnikov iz rok topilčevih; višnjevo in rdeče jim napravljajo oblačilo, delo umetnikov so vsi.

¹⁰But Yahweh is the true God; he is the living God, and an everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the nations are not able to withstand his indignation.

¹⁰GOSPOD pa je Bog v resnici, živi Bog in kralj večni; od jeze njegove se trese zemlja, in narodi ne morejo prenašati nevolje njegove.

¹¹You shall say this to them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.

¹¹Tako jim recite: Bogovi, ki niso ustvarili nebes in zemlje, izginejo iznad zemlje in izpod neba.

¹²He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:

¹²On je naredil zemljo s krepostjo svojo, ustanovil vesoljni svet z modrostjo svojo in z razumnostjo svojo je razpel nebesa.

¹³when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.

¹³Ko se on oglaša, nastane šum voda na nebu; on vzdiguje sopare od krajev zemlje, bliske dela za dež in pripeljava veter iz zakladnic svojih.

¹⁴Every man has become brutish and without knowledge; every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

¹⁴Nespameten je postal vsak človek, je brez spoznanja; vsak zlatar se osramočuje z mališko podobo; kajti lažniva je ulita podoba njegova in sape ni v nobeni med njimi.

¹⁵They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

¹⁵Ničemurnost so, smeha vredno delo; ob času njih obiskovanja poginejo.

¹⁶The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Yahweh of Armies is his name.

¹⁶Njim ni podoben on, ki je Jakobov delež; kajti on je upodobil vse, in Izrael je rod posesti njegove: GOSPOD nad vojskami je ime njegovo.

¹⁷Gather up your wares out of the land, you who live under siege.

¹⁷Poberi iz dežele blago svoje ti, ki sediš v oblegi!

¹⁸For thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.

¹⁸Kajti tako pravi GOSPOD: Glej, jaz bom s pračo ven pometal prebivalce te dežele in jih stiskal, da bodo čutili. –

¹⁹Woe is me because of my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is my grief, and I must bear it.

¹⁹Gorje mi zavoljo nadloge moje! Skeleča je rana moja. Toda pravim: Res, to je trpljenje moje, moram ga pretrpeti.

²⁰My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth from me, and they are no more: there is none to spread my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

²⁰Šator moj je razdejan in vse vrvi moje pretrgane; otroci moji so šli od mene in ni jih več; nihče ne razpenja več šatora mojega in nanj ne razveša mojih preprog.

²¹For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of Yahweh: therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.

²¹Kajti pastirji so postali nespametni in se niso posvetovali z GOSPODOM: zato niso imeli sreče, in vsa njih čreda se je razkropila. –

²²The voice of news, behold, it comes, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.

²²Čuj, kaj se sliši: glej, on prihaja, in velik hrup iz severne dežele, da se naredi iz mest Judovih puščava, prebivališče šakalov. –

²³Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

²³Vem, o GOSPOD, da ni človeku v oblasti pot njegova, ne v moči moža, kako naj hodi in ravna stopinje svoje.

²⁴Yahweh, correct me, but in measure: not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.

²⁴Kaznuj me, GOSPOD, ali zmerno, ne v jezi svoji, da me ne uničiš.Razlij srd svoj nad narode, ki te ne spoznavajo, in nad rodove, ki ne kličejo tvojega imena; kajti pojedli so Jakoba in ga požrli ter ga pokončali in opustošili prebivališče njegovo.

²⁵Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, and on the families that don’t call on your name: for they have devoured Jacob, yes, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.

²⁵Razlij srd svoj nad narode, ki te ne spoznavajo, in nad rodove, ki ne kličejo tvojega imena; kajti pojedli so Jakoba in ga požrli ter ga pokončali in opustošili prebivališče njegovo.
