¹The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh; and Yahweh delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

¹In sinovi Izraelovi so zopet delali, kar je bilo zlo v očeh GOSPODOVIH, in GOSPOD jih je dal Filistejcem v roko štirideset let.

²There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and didn’t bear.

²Bil pa je neki mož iz Zore, iz rodovine Danove, ki mu je bilo ime Manoah; in žena njegova je bila nerodovitna in ni rodila.

³The angel of Yahweh appeared to the woman, and said to her, “See now, you are barren, and don’t bear; but you shall conceive, and bear a son.

³In angel GOSPODOV se prikaže ženi in ji reče: Glej, nerodovitna si in ne rodiš; pa spočneš in porodiš sina.

⁴Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and don’t eat any unclean thing:

⁴Sedaj pa varuj se, pravim, da ne piješ vina in močne pijače in ne ješ nič nečistega.

⁵for, behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb: and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”

⁵Kajti glej, spočela boš in rodila sina, ki mu ne sme britev priti na glavo, zakaj deček bode nazirec [T. j. posvečenec] Božji od materinega telesa, in on začne reševati Izraela iz roke Filistejcev.

⁶Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome; and I didn’t ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name:

⁶In žena pride in pove možu svojemu, rekoč: Prišel je mož Božji k meni, in podoba njegova je bila kakor angela Božjega, silno strašna, da ga nisem vprašala, odkod je, pa on mi ni povedal, kako mu je ime;

⁷but he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’”

⁷a dejal mi je: Glej, spočela boš in rodila sina, ne pij torej nič vina, ne močne pijače, in ne jej nič nečistega, zakaj deček bode nazirec Božji od materinega telesa do dne smrti svoje.

⁸Then Manoah entreated Yahweh, and said, “Oh, Lord, please let the man of God whom you did send come again to us, and teach us what we shall do to the child who shall be born.”

⁸Tedaj zaprosi Manoah GOSPODA in reče: O GOSPOD, prosim, daj, da pride mož Božji, ki si ga bil poslal, zopet k nama ter naju pouči, kako naj ravnava z dečkom, ki se bo rodil.

⁹God listened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah, her husband, wasn’t with her.

⁹In Bog je slišal glas Manoahov: in angel Božji pride zopet k ženi, ko je sedela na polju, a Manoah, mož njen, ni bil pri njej.

¹⁰The woman made haste, and ran, and told her husband, and said to him, “Behold, the man has appeared to me, who came to me that day.”

¹⁰Žena pa hitro teče, in naznani možu svojemu in mu reče: Glej, prikazal se mi je tisti mož, ki je bil prišel k meni ondan.

¹¹Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to the woman?” He said, “I am.”

¹¹In Manoah vstane in gre za ženo svojo, in pride k možu in mu reče: Ti li si tisti mož, ki si govoril z ženo? Odgovori: Sem.

¹²Manoah said, “Now let your words happen. What shall the child’s way of life and mission be?”

¹²In reče Manoah: Ko se torej izpolnijo besede tvoje, kaj bodi pravilo za dečka in delo njegovo?

¹³The angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her beware.

¹³In angel GOSPODOV reče Manoahu: Vsega, kar sem povedal ženi, naj se ona varuje.

¹⁴She may not eat of anything that comes of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe.”

¹⁴Naj ne uživa ničesar, kar pride iz vinske trte, niti ne pije vina, ne močne pijače in ne je nič nečistega; in vse, kar sem ji zapovedal, naj izpolnjuje.

¹⁵Manoah said to the angel of Yahweh, “Please, let us detain you, that we may make a young goat ready for you.”

¹⁵In Manoah reče angelu GOSPODOVEMU: Prosim, rada bi te pomudila, da ti pripraviva kozliča.

¹⁶The angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, “Though you detain me, I won’t eat of your bread; and if you will prepare a burnt offering, you must offer it to Yahweh.” For Manoah didn’t know that he was the angel of Yahweh.

¹⁶Angel GOSPODOV pa reče Manoahu: Ko bi me tudi pomudil, ne bom jedel od tvojega kruha; če pa hočeš pripraviti žgalščino, jo moraš darovati GOSPODU. Manoah namreč ni vedel, da je bil angel GOSPODOV.

¹⁷Manoah said to the angel of Yahweh, “What is your name, that when your words happen, we may honor you?”

¹⁷In Manoah reče angelu GOSPODOVEMU: Kako ti je ime? da ti izkažemo čast, ko pride, kar si govoril.

¹⁸The angel of Yahweh said to him, “Why do you ask about my name, since it is wonderful?”

¹⁸Angel GOSPODOV pa mu odgovori: Čemu pa vprašuješ po mojem imenu, ki je čudovito?

¹⁹So Manoah took the young goat with the meal offering, and offered it on the rock to Yahweh. Then the angel did a wonderful thing as Manoah and his wife looked on.

¹⁹Tedaj vzame Manoah kozliča z jedilno daritvijo in ga daruje na skali GOSPODU; in on je storil čudež, ko sta Manoah in žena njegova gledala.

²⁰For it happened, when the flame went up toward the sky from off the altar, that the angel of Yahweh ascended in the flame of the altar: and Manoah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground.

²⁰Zgodi se namreč, ko je ogenj plapolal proti nebu z oltarja, da odide gori angel GOSPODOV v plamenu oltarja, ko sta Manoah in žena njegova gledala; in padla sta na obraz svoj na tla.

²¹But the angel of Yahweh didn’t appear to Manoah or to his wife any more. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of Yahweh.

²¹In ni se več prikazal angel GOSPODOV Manoahu in ženi njegovi. Tedaj je spoznal Manoah, da je bil angel GOSPODOV.

²²Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, because we have seen God.”

²²In Manoah reče ženi svoji: Gotovo skoraj umrjeva, ker sva videla Boga.

²³But his wife said to him, “If Yahweh were pleased to kill us, he wouldn’t have received a burnt offering and a meal offering at our hand, neither would he have shown us all these things, nor would at this time have told such things as these.”

²³Ali žena njegova mu reče: Ko bi GOSPODU ugajalo usmrtiti naju, ne bi bil sprejel žgalne in jedilne daritve iz roke najine, tudi bi nama ne bil pokazal vsega tega, ne v tem času nama dal slišati takih reči!

²⁴The woman bore a son, and named him Samson: and the child grew, and Yahweh blessed him.

²⁴In žena je rodila sina in ga imenovala Samsona. In deček je rastel, in GOSPOD ga je blagoslovil.In duh GOSPODOV ga je začel izpodbadati v Danovem šatorišču, med Zoro in Estaolom.

²⁵The Spirit of Yahweh began to move him in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
