1Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to Yahweh at Mizpah.
1Nato se odpravijo vsi sinovi Izraelovi, in vsa občina se zbere kakor en mož, od Dana tja do Bersebe, z Gileadsko pokrajino, pred GOSPODOM v Micpi.
2The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.
2In poglavarji vsega ljudstva, vseh rodov Izraelovih, so se sešli v zboru ljudstva Božjega, štiristo tisoč pešcev, ki so izdirali meč.
3(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, “Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?”
3Sinovi Benjaminovi so pa slišali, da so se sešli sinovi Izraelovi gori v Micpi. In sinovi Izraelovi reko: Povejte, kako se je zgodilo to zlo?
4The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
4In levit, mož žene, ki je bila umorjena, odgovori in reče: Prišel sem s priležnico svojo v Gibeo, ki je Benjaminova, da bi tam prenočil.
5The men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house by night. They thought to have slain me, and they forced my concubine, and she is dead.
5A meščani v Gibei so se vzdignili zoper mene in so po noči obdali hišo zaradi mene; mene so mislili umoriti, mojo priležnico pa so sramotili, da je umrla.
6I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
6Tedaj sem vzel priležnico svojo in jo razkrojil v kose in razposlal po vsej deželi dediščine Izraelove; kajti storili so grdobo in nesramnost v Izraelu.
7Behold, you children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.”
7Poglejte, vi vsi sinovi Izraelovi, govorite tu in dajte svet!
8All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.
8Tedaj vstane vse ljudstvo kakor en mož in reče: Nihče izmed nas ne sme iti v šator svoj, nihče naj se ne vrne v hišo svojo!
9But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;
9A to zdaj storimo Gibei: pojdemo proti njim, kakor določi kocka!
10and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have worked in Israel.”
10Vzemimo po deset mož iz sto in po sto iz tisoč in po tisoč iz deset tisoč od vseh rodov Izraelovih, da prinašajo hrano ljudstvu, ki naj gre nad Gibeo Benjaminovo in jim stori, kakor zasluži njih nesramnost, ki so jo storili v Izraelu.
11So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

12The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that is happen among you?
12In Izraelovi rodovi pošljejo može po vseh Benjaminovih rodovinah, da sporoče: Kakšna hudobnost je to, ki se je med vami zgodila?
13Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers the children of Israel.
13Sedaj pa nam izročite tiste hudobne zanikarneže, ki so v Gibei, da jih usmrtimo in odpravimo hudobo izmed Izraela! A Benjaminci niso hoteli slušati glasu bratov svojih, sinov Izraelovih.
14The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
14Ampak sinovi Benjaminovi se zbero iz svojih mest pri Gibei, da bi šli v boj zoper sinove Izraelove.
15The children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
15In tisti dan so bili sešteti sinovi Benjaminovi iz mest: šestindvajset tisoč mož, ki so izdirali meč, razen prebivalcev v Gibei, katerih je bilo naštetih sedemsto izbraniln mož.
16Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; everyone could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss.
16Med vsem tem ljudstvom je bilo sedemsto izbranih mož, levičnikov; vsi so znali s pračo kamene v las metati, ne da bi zgrešili.
17The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men who drew sword: all these were men of war.
17In mož Izraelovih, brez Benjamincev, je bilo seštetih štirikrat sto tisoč mož, ki so izdirali meč; vsi ti so bili vojščaki.
18The children of Israel arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God; and they said, “Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “Judah first.”
18In sinovi Izraelovi vstanejo in gredo gori v Betel in vprašajo Boga in reko: Kdo naj gre iz nas prvi vojskovat se s sinovi Benjaminovimi? In GOSPOD veli: Juda naj gre prvi.
19The children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
19Zjutraj torej vstanejo sinovi Izraelovi in se utabore proti Gibei.
20The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
20In možje Izraelovi gredo v boj zoper Benjamince in se razvrste v bitko ž njimi pri Gibei.
21The children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty-two thousand men.
21Sinovi Benjaminovi pa planejo iz Gibee in tisti dan pobijejo na tla iz Izraelcev dvaindvajset tisoč mož.
22The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
22Ali ljudstvo, možje Izraelovi, se ohrabre med seboj in se zopet razvrste v bitko ob kraju, kjer so se razvrstili prvi dan.
23The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said, “Go up against him.”
23In Izraelovi sinovi so šli gori in plakali pred GOSPODOM do večera in vprašali so GOSPODA, rekoč: Ali naj zopet grem bojevat se s sinovi Benjamina, brata svojega? GOSPOD veli: Pojdite gori zoper nje!
24The children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
24In sinovi Izraelovi se približajo Benjaminovim sinovom drugi dan.
25Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
25In Benjaminci planejo proti njini iz Gibee drugi dan, in zopet pobijejo na tla iz sinov Izraelovih osemnajst tisoč mož, ki so vsi izdirali meč.
26Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
26Nato gredo gori vsi sinovi Izraelovi in vse ljudstvo in pridejo v Betel in plakajo in ostanejo ondi pred GOSPODOM, in so se postili tisti dan do večera in so darovali žgalne in mirovne daritve pred GOSPODOM.
27The children of Israel asked of Yahweh (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
27In sinovi Izraelovi vprašajo GOSPODA (zakaj skrinja zaveze Božje je tam bila v tistih dneh,
28and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said, “Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”
28in Pinehas, sin Eleazarja, sina Aronovega, je stal pred njo tiste dni), rekoč: Ali naj zopet grem, da se bojujem s sinovi Benjamina, brata svojega, ali naj mirujem? In GOSPOD veli: Pojdite gori, zakaj jutri vam jih dam v roke.
29Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.
29In Izrael postavi zasede proti Gibei vseokrog.
30The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
30Nato gredo sinovi Izraelovi gori proti Benjaminovim sinovom tretji dan in razvrste se zoper Gibeo kakor poprej.
31The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
31In sinovi Benjaminovi pridero proti ljudstvu, in ko se oddaljijo od mesta, začno pobijati nekatere iz ljudstva kakor poprej ob cestah, katerih ena gre gori v Betel, druga pa v Gibeo na polju, in usmrte okoli trideset mož iz Izraela.
32The children of Benjamin said, “They are struck down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”
32Tedaj reko sinovi Benjaminovi: Padajo pred nami kakor prvikrat. A sinovi Izraelovi reko: Bežimo, da jih odpeljemo od mesta na ceste!
33All the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar: and the ambushers of Israel broke forth out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.
33In vstanejo sinovi Izraelovi s svojega kraja in se razvrste pri Baaltamarju; Izraelci, skriti v zasedi, pa planejo s svojega mesta, s planjave Gebe.
34There came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that evil was close on them.
34In pridere proti Gibei deset tisoč izbranih mož iz vsega Izraela, in bitka je postala trda, a oni niso vedeli, da hiti nesreča nadnje.
35Yahweh struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all these drew the sword.
35In GOSPOD je udaril Benjamina pred sinovi Izraelovimi, da so sinovi Izraelovi pobili tisti dan iz Benjamincev petindvajset tisoč in sto mož, ki so vsi izdirali meč.
36So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck; for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.
36In sinovi Benjaminovi so videli, da so poraženi. Kajti možje Izraelovi so dali Benjamincem prostora, ker so se zanesli na zasede, ki so jih bili postavili proti Gibei.
37The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; and the ambushers drew themselves along, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
37In zasedniki so hiteli in naskočili Gibeo in so se namerili na mesto in vse pobili z ostrino meča.
38Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
38Dogovorili so se pa možje Izraelovi z zasedniki, da napravijo, da se vali kvišku velik dim iz mesta.
39The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”
39In obrnejo se možje Izraelovi v bitki, in Benjaminci jih začno biti in pomore iz Izraela okoli trideset mož; mislili so namreč: Zopet so poraženi pred nami kakor v prejšnji bitki.
40But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to the sky.
40Ko pa se iz mesta začne dim dvigati kakor steber, se Benjaminci ozro, in glej, vse mesto gre v plamenu proti nebu.
41The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that evil had come on them.
41V tem se obrnejo možje Izraelovi, in možje Benjaminovi se prestrašijo, zakaj videli so, da jih je nesreča dohitela.
42Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in its midst.
42Krenili so sicer pred možmi Izraelovimi na pot k puščavi, ali vojska je pritiskala za njimi; in tisti, ki pridejo iz mest, jih obkolijo in pobijejo.
43They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and trod them down at their resting place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrise.
43In obsujejo Benjamince od vseh strani, jih podijo in jih poteptajo na njih počivališču tja do one strani ob Gibei proti solnčnemu vzhodu.
44There fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.

45They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck of them two thousand men.
45In obrnejo se in beže proti puščavi, k Rimonski skali. Ali na tej cesti so jih pobili pet tisoč mož in so jim bili trdo za petami tja do Gidoma in so pobili izmed njih dva tisoč mož.
46So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor.
46Tako je bilo vseh, ki so tisti dan padli iz Benjamina, petindvajset tisoč mož, ki so izdirali meč in so bili vsi hrabri možje.
47But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.
47Samo šeststo mož se obrne in zbeži v puščavo, k Rimonski skali, in ostanejo na Rimonski skali štiri mesece.A možje Izraelovi se zopet obrnejo na sinove Benjaminove in pobijejo z ostrino meča, kar jih je bilo v mestu, živino in vse, kar zasačijo; tudi vsa mesta, na katera so naleteli, požgo z ognjem.
48The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the livestock, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
48A možje Izraelovi se zopet obrnejo na sinove Benjaminove in pobijejo z ostrino meča, kar jih je bilo v mestu, živino in vse, kar zasačijo; tudi vsa mesta, na katera so naleteli, požgo z ognjem.
