1 Chronicles

19

1It happened after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.
1Shure kwaizvozvo mambo wavana vaAmoni akafa, mwanakomana wake akabata ushe panzvimbo yake.
2David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
2Zvino Dhavhidhi akati, Ndichaitira Hanuni mwanakomana waNahashi zvakanaka, sezvandakaitirwa zvakanaka nababa vake. Naizvozvo Dhavhidhi akatuma nhume kumubata ruoko pamusoro pababa vake. Varanda vaDhavhidhi vakasvika panyika yavana vaAmoni kuna Hanuni, kuzomubata ruoko.
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”
3Asi machinda avana vaAmoni akati kuna Hanuni ishe wavo, Munofunga kuti Dhavhidhi anoda kukudza baba venyu, zvaatuma vabati voruoko kwamuri here? Varanda vake havana kuuya kwamuri kunzvera, nokuputsa, nokushora nyika here?
4So Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
4Naizvozvo Hanuni akabata varanda vaDhavhidhi, akaveura ndebvu dzavo, akagura nguvo dzavo napakati kusvikira pamagaro avo, akavadzinga.
5Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
5Zvino vamwe vakandoudza Dhavhidhi zvakanga zvaitirwa varume. Akatuma vanhu kusangana navo, nekuti varume vakanga vachinyara kwazvo. Mambo akati, Garai henyu Jeriko kusvikira ndebvu dzenyu dzamerazve, mugodzoka henyu.
6When the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Arammaacah, and out of Zobah.
6Zvino vana vaAmoni vakati vachiona kuti vazvivengesa naDhavhidhi, Hanuni navana vaAmoni vakatuma matarenda esirivha ane chiuru chimwe kuzoripa ngoro navatasvi vamabhiza vanobva Mesopotamia, neArimimaaka, neZobha.
7So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people, who came and encamped before Medeba. The children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
7Naizvozvo vakaripira ngoro dzine zviuru zvina makumi matatu nezviviri, namambo weMaaka navanhu vake; ivo vakasvika vakadzika matende avo pamberi peMedhebha. Vana vaAmoni vakaungana vachibva kumaguta avo, vakauya kuzorwa.
8When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.
8Zvino Dhavhidhi akati achizvinzwa, akatuma Joabhu nehondo yose yavarume vane simba.
9The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city: and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
9Vana vaAmoni vakabuda, vakagadzira hondo pavanopinda napo pasuwo; asi madzimambo, akanga auya, aiva pachawo oga pasango.
10Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.
10Zvino Joabhu akati achiona kuti wovavarirwa mberi neshure, akatsaura vamwe kunavakatsaurwa vose vaIsiraeri, akavagadzira kuti varwe navaSiria.
11The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
11Vamwe vanhu, vakasara, akavaisa kuna Abhishai, munin'ina wake, vakazvigadzira kuti varwe navana vaAmoni.
12He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you are to help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.
12Akati, Kana vaSiria vakandikurira ini, iwe unofanira kundibatsira; asi kana vana vaAmoni vakakukurira iwe, ini ndichauya kukubatsira.
13Be courageous, and let us be strong for our people, and for the cities of our God. May Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”
13Tsunga moyo, tirwire vanhu vedu namaguta aMwari wedu savarume; naJehovha ngaaite sezvaanoda.
14So Joab and the people who were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.
14Naizvozvo Joabhu navanhu vaakanga anavo vakaswedera kuzorwa navaSiria, ivo vakatiza pamberi pake.
15When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
15Zvino vana vaAmoni vakati vachionawo kuti vaSiria vatiza, naivo vakatizawo saizvozvo pamberi paAbhishai, vakapinda muguta. Ipapo Joabhu akaenda Jerusaremu.
16When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians who were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
16Zvino vaSiria vakati vachiona kuti vakundwa navaIsiraeri, vakatuma nhume, vakadana vaSiria vakanga vari mhiri korwizi, vakatungamirirwa naShofaki mukuru wehondo yaHadharezeri.
17It was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came on them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
17Dhavhidhi akaudzwa izvozvo; akaunganidza valsiraeri vose, vakayambuka Joridhani, vakasvika kwavari, akazvigadzira kuzorwa navo. Zvino Dhavhidhi akati azvigadzira kuzorwa navaSiria, ivo vakarwa naye.
18The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrians the men of seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the army.
18VaSiria vakatiza pamberi pavaIsiraeri; Dhavhidhi akauraya pakati pavaSiria varume vengoro dzine zviuru zvinomwe, navaifamba namakumbo vane zviuru zvina makumi mana, akaurayawo Shofaki mukuru wehondo.
19When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David, and served him: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
19Zvino varanda vaHadharezeri vakati vachiona kuti vakundwa naIsiraeri vakayanana naDhavhidhi, vakamushumira; vaSiria vakazoramba kubatsira vana vaAmoni.
