14

1All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
1Zvino ungano yose yakachema zvikuru; vanhu vakachema usiku ihwohwo.
2All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!
2Vana vaIsiraeri vose vakapo potera Mozisi naAroni, ungano yose ikati kwavari, Haiwa, dai takafira hedu munyika yeEgipita! Dai takafira hedu murenje rino!
3Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?”
3Jehovha akauyireiko nesu munyika ino, tiurawe nomunondo? Vakadzi vedu navana vedu vachatapwa. Hakuzaiva nani kuti tidzokere Egipita here?
4They said one to another, “Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.”
4Vakataurirana, vakati, Ngatizvitsvakire mukuru, tidzokere Egipita.
5Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
5Ipapo Mozisi naAroni vakawira pasi nezviso zvavo pamberi peungano yose yavana vaIsiraeri.
6Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes:
6NaJoshua, mwanakomana waNuni, naKarebhu, mwanakomana waJefune, vakanga vandoshora nyika pamwechete navamwe, vakabvarura nguvo dzavo,
7and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.
7vakataura neungano yose yavana vaIsiraeri vakati, Nyika yatakapfuura napakati payo kuishora, inyika yakanaka kwazvo-kwazvo.
8If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
8Kana Jehovha achifara nesu, achatiisa kunyika iyo, nokutipa iyo; inyika inoyerera mukaka nouchi.
9Only don’t rebel against Yahweh, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is removed from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Don’t fear them.”
9Asi regai kumukira Jehovha, uye musatya vanhu venyika iyo, nekuti ivo zvokudya zvedu; mumvuri wavo wabviswa pamusoro pavo, Jehovha anesu, regai kutya.
10But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. The glory of Yahweh appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.
10Asi ungano yose yakati vatakwe namabwe. Ipapo kubwinya kwaJehovha kwakaonekwa mutende rokusangana navana vaIsiraeri vose.
11Yahweh said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?
11Zvino Jehovha akati kuna Mozisi, Vanhu ava vachandizvidza kusvikira rinhiko? Vacharamba kunditenda ini kusvikira rinhiko, nezvishamiso zvose zvandakaita pakati pavo?
12I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
12Ndichavarova nedenda, nokuvatorera nhaka yavo, ndikuite iwe rudzi runovakunda ivo noukuru nesimba.
13Moses said to Yahweh, “Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them;
13Mozisi akati kuna Jehovha, VaEgipita vachazvinzwa, nekuti makabudisa vanhu ava pakati pavo nesimba renyu;
14and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Yahweh are in the midst of this people; for you Yahweh are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
14vachaudza vanhu vagere munyika ino izvozvo; ivo vakanzwa kuti imwi Jehovha muri pakati pavanhu ava, nekuti imwi Jehovha munoonekwa navo pachena, gore renyu rinomira pamusoro pavo, nemwi munovatungamirira masikati neshongwe yegore, nousiku neshongwe yomoto.
15Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,
15Zvino kana mukauraya vanhu ava vose-vose, ndudzi dzavanhu, dzakanzwa mukurumbira wenyu, dzichataura, dzichiti,
16‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’
16Jehovha akanga asingagoni kuisa vanhu ava kunyika yaakanga avapikira, saka akavauraya murenje.
17Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
17Zvino ndinokumbira kuti simba raShe wangu rive guru, sezvamakataura, muchiti,
18‘Yahweh is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’
18Jehovha anononoka kutsamwa, ane nyasha huru, anokangamwira zvakaipa nokudarika; haangatongopembedzi munhu ane mhosva; anorova vana nokuda kwezvakaipa zvamadzibaba avo, kusvikira kurudzi rwechitatu norwechina.
19Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and according as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”
19Ndinokumbira kuti mukangamwire henyu zvakaipa zvavanhu ava noukuru bwenyasha dzenyu, uye sezvamakakangamwira vanhu ava kubva Egipita kusvikira zvino.
20Yahweh said, “I have pardoned according to your word:
20Ipapo Jehovha akati, Ndakangamwira sezvawakumbira.
21but in very deed, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Yahweh;
21Asi zvirokwazvo, noupenyu hwangu, uye nyika yose zvaichazara nokubwinya kwaJehovha,
22because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;
22varume ava vose vakaona kubwinya kwangu nezviratidzo zvangu, zvandakaita muEgipita nomurenje, vakandiidza zvino rune gumi, vasingateereri inzwi rangu,
23surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it:
23zvirokwazvo, havangaoni nyika yandakapikira madzibaba avo; hakuna mumwe wavakandizvidza achaiona,
24but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went; and his seed shall possess it.
24asi muranda wangu Karebhu, nekuti akanga ano mumwe mweya mukati make, akanditevera nomoyo wose, ndiye andichapinza munyika maakambopinda; ichava yavana vake.
25Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley: tomorrow turn, and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea .”
25Zvino vaAmareki navaKanani vaigara mumupata uyo; mangwana dzokai, muende kurenje nenzira inoenda kuGungwa Dzvuku.
26Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
26Zvino Jehovha wakataura naMozisi naAroni, akati,
27“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
27Ungano iyi yakaipa icharamba ichindinyunyutira kusvikira rinhiko? Ndakanzwa kunyunyuta kwavana vaIsiraeri, kwavanondinyunyutira nako.
28Tell them, ‘As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you:
28Uti kwavari, zvanzi naJehovha, Zvirokwazvo, noupenyu hwangu, sezvamakataura munzeve dzangu, ndizvo zvandichakuitirai.
29your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,
29Zvitunha zvenyu zvichawira murenje rino; imwi mose makaverengwa, nokuwanda kwenyu kose, vose vana makore makumi maviri navanopfuura, vakandinyunyutira,
30surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
30zvirokwazvo, imwi hamungapindi munyika yandakupikirai, ndichiti, ndichakugarisaimo, asi Karebhu, mwanakomana waJefune, naJoshua, mwanakomana waNuni.
31But your little ones, that you said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.
31Asi vana venyu vamakati vachatapwa, ndivo vandichapinza; ivo vachaziva nyika yamakaramba imwi.
32But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
32Asi kana murimwi, zvitunha zvenyu zvichawira murenje, rino.
33Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.
33Vana venyu vachadzungaira savafudzi murenje makore ana makumi mana, vachirohwa nokuda kokupata kwenyu, kusvikira zvitunha zvenyu zvaparadzwa murenje.
34After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’
34Samazuva amakanga muchishora nyika nawo, iwo mazuva ana makumi mana, saizvozvo muchava nemhosva yokutadza kwenyu, zuva rimwe nerimwe richaita gore rimwe, ndiwo makore ana makumi mana, mugoziva kuti ndakakufuratirai.
35I, Yahweh, have spoken, surely this will I do to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”
35Ini Jehovha, ndakataura izvozvo, ndichaitira saizvozvo ungano iyi yose yakaipa, yakaungana kuzorwa neni; vachaparadzwa murenje rino, vachafirapo.
36The men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,
36Zvino varume vakanga vatumwa naMozisi vaya kundoshora nyika, vaya vakadzoka vonyunyutisa ungano yose pamusoro pake, zvavakauya namashoko akaipa pamusoro penyika iyo,
37even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.
37varume avo vakanga vauya neshoko rakaipa pamusoro penyika iyo, vakafa nedenda pamberi paJehovha.
38But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
38Asi Joshua, mwanakomana waNuni, naKarebhu, mwanakomana waJefune, vakasara vari vapenyu pavarume vaya vakandoshora nyika.
39Moses told these words to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
39Zvino Mozisi wakaudza vana vaIsiraeri mashoko iwaya ose; vanhu vakachema kwazvo;
40They rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Yahweh has promised: for we have sinned.”
40vakafumira mangwanani, vakakwira kumusoro wegomo, vakati, Tarirai, tiri pano hedu, tichandokwira kwatakavimbiswa naJehovha, nekuti tatadza.
41Moses said, “Why now do you disobey the commandment of Yahweh, since it shall not prosper?
41Mozisi akati, Munodarikireiko murayiro waJehovha, nekuti muchaona nhamo.
42Don’t go up, for Yahweh isn’t among you; that you not be struck down before your enemies.
42Musakwira, nekuti Jehovha haazi pakati penyu; kuti murege kuparadzwa navavengi venyu.
43For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and you shall fall by the sword: because you are turned back from following Yahweh, therefore Yahweh will not be with you.”
43Nekuti vaAmareki navaKanani vari mberi kwenyu ipapo; muchaurawa nomunondo, nekuti makadzoka pakutevera Jehovha, naizvozvo Jehovha haangavi nemi.
44But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and Moses, didn’t depart out of the camp.
44Kunyange zvakadaro vakaidza havo kukwira kumusoro wegomo nokuzvikudza kwavo; asi areka yesungano yaJehovha haina kubva pamisasa, naiye Mozisiwo.
45Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down, even to Hormah.
45Ipapo vaAmareki navaKanani vakanga vagere mugomo iro vakaburuka, vakavaparadza nokuvadzingirira kusvikira paHoma.
