1 Samuel

14

1Now it fell on a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side.” But he didn’t tell his father.
1 Han fo binde Sawulu ize Yonata ne arwaso kaŋ goono ga nga wongu jinayey jare din se: «Kaa iri ma daŋandi ka koy Filistancey gata do, kaŋ go ya-haray daŋanta.» Amma a mana ci nga baabo se.
2Saul stayed in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people who were with him were about six hundred men;
2 Sawulu binde goono ga goro Jibeya meyo gaa garenad* tuuri nya cire kaŋ go Migron ra. Borey kaŋ go a banda mo ga to boro zangu iddu cine.
3and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of Yahweh in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. The people didn’t know that Jonathan was gone.
3 Ahiya, Ahitub ize, Ikabod nya-ize, Fineyas ize, Eli ize, kaŋ ga ti Rabbi alfaga Silo ra goono ga daabu nda efod* kwaay noodin. Jama mana bay hala Yonata koy bo.
4Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines’ garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side, and a rocky crag on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
4 Furoyaŋ nangey kaŋ do Yonata ga ba nga ma furo ka daŋandi ka to Filistancey gata do, kambu woodin gaa gonda tondi deenekoy fo, kambu woone mo gaa gonda tondi deenekoy fo mo koyne. Afa maa Bozez, afa mo maa Sene.
5The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.
5 Tondi fa salle azawa kambe haray Mikmas jine, afa mo go dandi kambe haray, Geba jine.
6Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that Yahweh will work for us; for there is no restraint on Yahweh to save by many or by few.”
7His armor bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Turn and, behold, I am with you according to your heart.”
7 A jinay jarekwa ne a se: «Haŋ kaŋ go ni bina ra kulu me-a-me, ni m'a te.
8Then Jonathan said, “Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.
8 Gaa no Yonata ne: «Guna, iri go ga daŋandi ka koy alborey wo do haray k'iri boŋ bangandi i se.
9If they say thus to us, ‘Wait until we come to you!’ then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up to them.
9 D'i ne iri se, ‹Wa kay hala iri ma kaa araŋ do.› kal iri ma kay iri nango ra, iri si koy i do.
10But if they say this, ‘Come up to us!’ then we will go up; for Yahweh has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us.”
10 Amma d'i ne: ‹Wa ziji ka kaa iri do,› kal iri ma koy, zama Rabbi n'i daŋ iri kambe ra no. Woone wo, nga no ga te alaama iri se.»
11Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, “Behold, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves!”
11 Kal i boro hinka kulu na ngey boŋ bangandi Filistancey gata se. Filistancey mo ne: «Guna, Ibraniyancey neeya ga fun ngey guusey ra, nangey kaŋ i tugu.»
12The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will show you something!” Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up after me; for Yahweh has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”
12 Gata borey binde ne Yonata nda nga jinay jarekwa se: «Wa ziji ka kaa iri do, iri mo m'araŋ cabe hay fo.» Yonata ne nga jinay jarekwa se: «Kaa k'ay banda gana, zama Rabbi n'i daŋ Israyla kambe ra.»
13Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.
13 Yonata mo, fananyaŋ no a ziji nd'a, a jinay jarekwa go a banda. Filistancey kaŋ mo Yonata jine, a jinay jarekwa mo go g'i wi a banda.
14That first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow’s length in an acre of land.
14 Wiyaŋ sintina kaŋ Yonata nda nga jinay jarekwa te, danga alboro waranka cine no. Nango mo si bisa fari fo batama jare cine beeray.
15There was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled; and the earth quaked: so there was an exceeding great trembling.
15 I jijiri mo gata ra da batama ra da borey kulu ra mo. Gata batukoy, da ce gaa wongaarey mo gaahamey jijiri. Laabo mo zinji. Jijiriyaŋ no kaŋ fun Irikoy do.
16The watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and behold, the multitude melted away, and scattered.
16 Sawulu batukoy kaŋ go Jibeya, Benyamin wano ra guna kal i ibarey marga go, i manne. I kar ka say ka te afo-fo.
17Then Saul said to the people who were with him, “Count now, and see who is missing from us.” When they had counted, behold, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.
17 Saaya din Sawulu ne borey kaŋ yaŋ go nga banda din se: «Wa kabu sohõ ka di boro kaŋ fatta iri do.» Waato kaŋ i na kabo te, kal i di Yonata nda nga jinay jarekwa si noodin.
18Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God here.” For the ark of God was with the children of Israel at that time.
18 Sawulu mo ne Ahiya se: «I ma kande Irikoy sundurko neewo» (zama jirbey din Irikoy sundurko go Israyla izey do.)
19It happened, while Saul talked to the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand!”
19 A ciya binde, za Sawulu goono ga salaŋ nda alfaga yaadin, kala gartyaŋo kaŋ go Filistancey gata ra go ga tonton ka ziji.
20Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle: and behold, every man’s sword was against his fellow: a very great confusion.
20 Sawulu nda jama kulu kaŋ go a banda margu ka kaa wongo do.
21Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines as before, and who went up with them into the camp, from all around, even they also turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
21 Ibraniyancey kaŋ yaŋ go Filistancey banda mo za doŋ, kaŋ yaŋ tun i banda ka koy gata do, kaŋ yaŋ ga fun laabo kulu ra i windanta, kala ngey mo bare ka ye Israyla borey do haray kaŋ yaŋ go Sawulu nda Yonata banda.
22Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
22 Baa Israyla borey kulu kaŋ yaŋ tugu Ifraymu tondey laabo ra, waato kaŋ i maa baaru Filistancey goono ga zuru, kala ngey mo na Filistancey haabu ka gaaray wongo ra.
23So Yahweh saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over by Beth Aven.
24The men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul had adjured the people, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.
24 Israyla alborey kankam han din hane, zama Sawulu ze no jama se ka ne: «Laalante no boro kulu kaŋ na ŋwaari dumi kulu ŋwa kala wiciri kambo ma to, hala ay ma fansa bana ay ibarey boŋ.» Jama ra binde sinda boro kulu kaŋ na ŋwaari taba.
25All the people came into the forest; and there was honey on the ground.
25 Jama kulu mo furo saajo ra, saajo wo mo gonda yu boobo ganda.
26When the people had come to the forest, behold, the honey dropped: but no man put his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath.
26 Waato kaŋ cine borey furo saajo ra binde, kala yu go ga tolli, amma boro kulu si no kaŋ na kambe daŋ nga me gaa, zama jama ga humburu ngey zeyaŋo.
27But Jonathan didn’t hear when his father commanded the people with the oath: therefore he put forth the end of the rod who was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.
27 Amma Yonata mana maa waato kaŋ nga baabo kaseeti borey gaa da zeyaŋo. Woodin se no a na goobo kaŋ go nga kamba ra din salle ka yu fanta zuku nd'a, ka nga kamba daŋ nga me gaa. A moy binde te fas!
28Then one of the people answered, and said, “Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food this day.’” The people were faint.
28 Gaa no jama ra boro fo ne a se: «Ni baaba kaseeti borey gaa da gaabi hala nda zeyaŋ ka ne: ‹Laalante no boro kaŋ na ŋwaari ŋwa hunkuna!› Jama mo taabi.»
29Then Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
30How much more, if perhaps the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? For now has there been no great slaughter among the Philistines.”
30 Sanku fa binde i ma ne jama na ngey ibarey arzaka ŋwa wongo ra taŋante, naŋ kaŋ i n'a gar. Zama doŋ i na wiyaŋ ce-kayante fo te Filistancey ra.»
31They struck of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint;
Jama binde taabi gumo.
32and the people flew on the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.
32 Jama mo kaŋ wongu arzaka boŋ. I na feeji da haw da handayze yaŋ sambu k'i wi ganda. Borey n'i kulu ŋwa hala nda i kuro mo.
33Then they told Saul, saying, “Behold, the people are sinning against Yahweh, in that they eat meat with the blood.” He said, “You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me this day!”
Day, wa tondi bambata fo gunguray ka kand'a ay se neewo sohõ.»
34Saul said, “Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them, ‘Bring me here every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and don’t sin against Yahweh in eating meat with the blood.’” All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.
34 Sawulu ne koyne: «Wa say jama ra ka ne i se: ‹Boro fo kulu ma kande ay se nga yeejo neewo, boro fo kulu mo ma kande ay se nga feejo, i m'i _wi ka|_ dumbu-dumbu neewo ka ŋwa. Araŋ ma si zunubi te Rabbi se ka ham ŋwa nda kuri.› » Jama kulu binde, i boro fo kulu kande nga yeejo nga banda han din cino din ra k'i dumbu-dumbu noodin.
35Saul built an altar to Yahweh. This was the first altar that he built to Yahweh.
36Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them.” They said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” Then the priest said, “Let us draw near here to God.”
Waato din gaa no alfaga ne: «Iri ma maan Irikoy.»
37Saul asked counsel of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.
37 Sawulu binde na saaware ceeci Irikoy gaa. A ne: «Ay ma zulli ka Filistancey gana no? Ni g'i daŋ Israyla kambe ra no?» Amma a mana tu a se han din hane.
38Saul said, “Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people; and know and see in which this sin has been this day.
38 Sawulu ne: «Wa maan neewo sohõ, araŋ jama jine borey kulu. Araŋ ma bay, araŋ ma guna mo naŋ kaŋ cine no zunubo wo go hunkuna.
39For, as Yahweh lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.
39 Zama ay ga ze da Rabbi fundikoono, nga, Rabbi kaŋ ga Israyla faaba. Baa day a go ay izo Yonata do no, daahir a ga bu.» Amma jama mana tu a se, baa boro folloŋ.
40Then he said to all Israel, “You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” The people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”
40 Gaa no a ne Israyla kulu se: «Wa ye kambu fo. Ay mo, in d'ay izo Yonata, iri ga ye ya-haray kambo ka goro.» Jama ne Sawulu se: «Kala ni ma te haŋ kaŋ ni di ga hagu.»
41Therefore Saul said to Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Show the right.” Jonathan and Saul were chosen; but the people escaped.
Kala goŋ na Sawulu nda Yonata di, amma jama fatta.
42Saul said, “Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son.” Jonathan was selected.
42 Sawulu ne mo: «I ma goŋ te in d'ay izo Yonata mo game ra.» Goŋo na Yonata di.
43Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done!” Jonathan told him, and said, “I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and behold, I must die.”
43 Sawulu ne Yonata se: «Ma ci ay se haŋ kaŋ no ni te.» Yonata ci a se ka ne: «Cimi no, ay na yu kayna ham, ikayniyo, d'ay goobo kaŋ go ay kambe ra. Ay n'a taba mo. A go mo sohõ, tilas kal ay ma bu.»
44Saul said, “God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”
44 Sawulu ne: «Hala day ni mana bu, Yonata, Irikoy m'ay laali.»
45The people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As Yahweh lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day!” So the people rescued Jonathan, that he didn’t die.
Baa Yonata boŋ-hamni folloŋ si kaŋ ganda, zama hunkuna a goy Irikoy banda.» Jama binde na Yonata faaba, a mana bu mo.
46Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.
46 Gaa no Sawulu tun ka fay da Filistancey ganayaŋ. Filistancey mo koy ngey nangey do.
47Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and wherever he turned himself, he defeated them.
47 Waato kaŋ cine Sawulu te bonkooni Israyla boŋ, a wongu nda nga ibarey kuray kulu. A gaaba nda Mowab, da Amon izey, da Edom, da Zoba bonkooney, da Filistancey. Naŋ kaŋ a bare kulu, zaama no a ga te.
48He did valiantly, and struck the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of those who despoiled them.
48 A na yaarutaray te mo, ka Amalekancey kar, a na Israyla faaba ka kaa borey kaŋ yaŋ n'i ku kambe ra.
49Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishvi, and Malchishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:
49 Sawulu izey ga ti Yonata nda Isbi nda Malci-Suwa. A ize wayboro hinka mo maayey neeya: ize way beero maa ga ti Merab, ikayna mo maa Mikal.
50and the name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the captain of his army was Abner the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.
50 Sawulu wando maa Ahinowam, Ahimaz ize way no. A wongu bonkoono maa Abner, Ner izo, Sawulu baaba kayno.
51Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.
51 Cis mo, nga no ga ti Sawulu baaba. Ner mo Abner baaba no, Abiyel ize.
52There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.
Waati kaŋ Sawulu di boro kaŋ wongaari no, wala yaarukom no, kal a ma bora sambu ka kande nga do.
