1It happened, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
1 Waato kaŋ Samuwila zeen binde, a na nga izey daŋ i ma ciya ciitikoyaŋ Israyla boŋ.
2Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah: they were judges in Beersheba.
2 A hay-jina maa Yowel, ihinkanta maa Abiya. I goono ga ciitikoy goy te Beyer-Seba ra.
3His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.
3 Day a izey man'a fonda gana, amma i siiri nooru ceeciyaŋ do haray. I goono ga me-daabu ta, i goono ga ciiti siirandi.
4Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel to Ramah;
4 Gaa no Israyla arkusey kulu na care margu ka kaa Samuwila do Rama.
5and they said to him, “Behold, you are old, and your sons don’t walk in your ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
5 I ne a se: «A go sohõ ni jin ka zeen. Ni izey mo siino ga ni fonda gana. A binde sohõ ni ma bonkooni daŋ iri se kaŋ g'iri candi, sanda mate kaŋ cine dumi cindey kulu gonda.»
6But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” Samuel prayed to Yahweh.
6 Amma woodin mana kaan Samuwila se kaŋ i ne: «M'iri no bonkooni kaŋ g'iri candi.» Samuwila binde na adduwa te Rabbi gaa.
7Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.
7 Rabbi ne Samuwila se: «Kala ni ma hangan jama sanno se hay kulu kaŋ i ne ni se, zama manti nin no i wangu bo; ay no i wangu ya ciya bonkooni ngey boŋ.
8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also to you.
8 Muraadu kulu kaŋ i te boŋ za han kaŋ hane ay n'i kaa Misira laabu ka kaa sohõ, ay furuyaŋ kaŋ i te, i goono ga may de-koy* waani fooyaŋ se. Yaadin no i te ni mo se.
9Now therefore listen to their voice: however you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who shall reign over them.”
9 Sohõ binde, kala ni ma hangan i sanney se. Kulu nda yaadin ni ga daahirandi i se da seedayaŋ kaŋ ga dungandi. Ma cabe i se bonkooni kaŋ dumi ga ba k'i may.»
10Samuel told all the words of Yahweh to the people who asked of him a king.
10 Samuwila mo na Rabbi sanney kulu ci jama kaŋ yaŋ na bonkooni ceeci nga gaa din se.
11He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them to him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots;
11 A ne: «Bonkoono kaŋ ga koytaray ŋwa araŋ boŋ din, a dumi neeya: a g'araŋ ize alborey ta k'i daŋ nga boŋ nafa ra nga torkey se, i ma ciya a kaarukoy, i ga zuru mo a torkey jine.
12and he will appoint them to him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.
12 A g'i daŋ i ma ciya nga se jine boroyaŋ, zambar-zambar da waygu-waygu wane yaŋ. A ga afooyaŋ daŋ i m'a farey far, i m'a albarka mo wi, i m'a wongu jinayyaŋ d'a torkey wane yaŋ mo te.
13He will take your daughters to be perfumers, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
13 A g'araŋ ize wayey mo sambu i ma ciya waddi teekoyaŋ a se, i ma ciya ŋwaari hinakoyaŋ da haagu-haagu teekoyaŋ.
14He will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive groves, even their best, and give them to his servants.
14 A g'araŋ kaley ta, reyzin* wane da zeytun* ji wane, hala ngey kaŋ bisa i kulu boori yaŋ, a m'i no nga tamey se.

17He will take the tenth of your flocks: and you shall be his servants.
17 A g'araŋ almaney zakka ta mo. Araŋ mo ga ciya a bannyayaŋ.
18You shall cry out in that day because of your king whom you shall have chosen you; and Yahweh will not answer you in that day.”
18 Han din hane binde araŋ ga hẽ araŋ bonkoono kaŋ araŋ suuban din sabbay se. Amma Rabbi si tu araŋ se han din hane.»
19But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No; but we will have a king over us,
19 Amma jama wangu ka yadda ngey ma Samuwila sanney hangan. I ne «Abada, kala day iri ma du bonkooni kaŋ g'iri may.
20that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
20 Zama iri ma ciya sanda dumi cindey kulu cine, iri bonkoono ma ciiti dumbu iri se, a ma bisa iri jine, a m'iri candi tangamey ra mo.»
21Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Yahweh.
21 Samuwila mo maa jama sanney kulu, a n'i ci Rabbi hangey ra.
22Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.” Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Every man go to his city.”
