1All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
1 Kala jama kulu na ngey jinde sambu ka baray. Cin woodin kulu i hanna ka hẽ.
2All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!
2 Israyla izey kulu binde na Musa nda Haruna guuni-guuni. Jama kulu ne i se: «Doŋ iri ma bu Misira laabo ra. Wala doŋ, iri ma bu saajo wo ra!
3Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?”
3 Ifo se binde no Rabbi kande iri ne laabo wo ra hala takuba m'iri zeeri? I m'iri wandey d'iri izey ciya wongu arzaka yaŋ? Iri ma ye Misira, manti a bisa neewo?»
4They said one to another, “Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.”
4 Kal i ne care se: «Iri ma jine boro fo suuban ka ye Misira.»
5Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
5 Waato din gaa Musa nda Haruna ganda biri Israyla izey jama marga kulu jine.
6Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes:
6 Kala Nun izo Yasuwa nda Yefunna izo Kaleb, kaŋ yaŋ koy laabo fintalkoy banda na ngey bankaarayey tooru-tooru*.
7and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.
7 I salaŋ Israyla izey marga kulu se ka ne: «Laabo kaŋ iri koy a ra ka guna din, laabu hanno no gumo!
8If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
8 Da Rabbi maa iri kaani, a ga konda iri laabo din ra k'iri no nd'a. Laabu no kaŋ ga wa da yu bambari.
9Only don’t rebel against Yahweh, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is removed from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Don’t fear them.”
9 Kala day, araŋ ma si tunanda Rabbi gaa, araŋ ma si humburu laabo din borey mo, zama i ga ciya iri se ŋwaari hari. I kosara dira k'i naŋ, Rabbi mo go iri banda. Araŋ ma si humbur'ey.»
10But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. The glory of Yahweh appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.
10 Amma jama kulu ne i m'i catu nda tondiyaŋ. Waato din gaa Rabbi darza bangay kubayyaŋ hukumo ra Israyla izey kulu jine.
11Yahweh said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?
11 Rabbi ne Musa se: «Waatifo no borey wo ga fay d'ay fantayaŋ? Waatifo no i g'ay cimandi, alaamey kulu kaŋ ay te i do se?
12I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
12 Ay g'i kar da balaaw, k'i tubo ta i gaa. Ay ma dumi fo te ni do kaŋ ga beeri nd'ey, kaŋ ga gaabu nd'ey mo.»
13Moses said to Yahweh, “Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them;
13 Kala Musa ne Rabbi se: «Yaadin gaa ya, Misirancey ga maa r'a (zama nin no ka borey wo kaa i game ra da ni gaabo).
14and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Yahweh are in the midst of this people; for you Yahweh are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
14 I ga ci mo laabo woone borey se, zama i maa baaru mate kaŋ ni, ya Rabbi, ni go jama wo game ra. I go ga di nin mo-da-mo, ni buro go i boŋ do ga kay beene. Ni ga furo i jine, zaari haray buru yuumay ra, cin haray mo danji ra.
15Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,
15 Sohõ da ni na dumo wo kulu wi ce folloŋ, kala dumi cindey kaŋ yaŋ maa ni baaru ma salaŋ ka ne:
16‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’
16 ‹Zama Rabbi sinda hina ka konda borey wo laabo din ra kaŋ boŋ a ze i se, a sabbay se no a n'i wi ganjo ra.›
17Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
17 Sohõ binde, ay ga ni ŋwaaray, naŋ ay Koyo dabaro ma beeri, danga mate kaŋ cine ni salaŋ ka ne:
18‘Yahweh is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’
18 ‹Rabbi ya suurukoy no kaŋ si tara ka futu, suuji-beeri-koy mo no. A ga izefututaray da taali yaafa. A si taali-teeri adilandi* bo, amma a ga baabey taaley bana izey gaa hala hayyaŋ hinzanta ka koy itaacanta gaa.›
19Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and according as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”
19 Ay ga ni ŋwaaray, ma borey wo zunubo yaafa, ni baakasinay bambata boŋ, danga mate kaŋ ni jin k'i yaafa za Misira ra ka kaa sohõ.»
20Yahweh said, “I have pardoned according to your word:
20 Rabbi mo ne: «Ay n'i yaafa ni sanno boŋ.
21but in very deed, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Yahweh;
21 Amma ay ze nd'ay fundo! Daahir ay ze no kaŋ ndunnya kulu ga aniya ka to da Rabbi darza.
22because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;
22 Zama borey wo kulu man'ay sanno saal, baa kaŋ i di ay darza, i di ay dambara harey kaŋ yaŋ ay te Misira ra nda ganjo ra mo. Sohõ mo i n'ay si hala sorro way --

23 I si di laabo kaŋ ay ze d'a ka ne i kaayey se ay g'a no i se. Borey kulu kaŋ n'ay fanta si di a.
24but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went; and his seed shall possess it.
24 Amma ay tamo Kaleb n'ay gana gumo-gumo, zama a gonda Biya waani nga ra. Ay ga kand'a laabo kaŋ ra a furo din ra. A ga ciya a banda wane mo.
25Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley: tomorrow turn, and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea .”
25 Suba araŋ ma bare ka ye ganjo ra, Teeku Cira fonda boŋ.» (Alwaati woodin no, Amalekancey da Kanaanancey go gooro ra da goray).
26Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
26 Kala Rabbi salaŋ Musa nda Haruna se ka ne:
27“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
27 «Kala waatifo no ay ga suuru nda jama laalo wo, kaŋ go g'ay jance? Ay maa Israyla izey janceyaŋo kaŋ i goono g'ay jance nd'a.
28Tell them, ‘As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you:
28 Wa ci i se: Rabbi ne: Ay ze d'ay fundo, danga mate kaŋ cine araŋ salaŋ ay hangey ra, yaadin cine no ay ga te araŋ se.
29your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,
29 Araŋ ga kaŋ buukoyaŋ saajo wo ra. Boro fo kulu kaŋ i lasaabu araŋ game ra, araŋ lasaabo kulu boŋ, za jiiri waranka izey ka koy beene, araŋ kaŋ yaŋ n'ay jance,
30surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
30 sikka si araŋ si koy ka furo laabo din ra, nango kaŋ ay ze ka ne ay g'araŋ gorandi a ra. Kala Yefunna izo Kaleb da Nun izo Yasuwa, ngey hinne.
31But your little ones, that you said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.
31 Amma araŋ zankey, kaŋ yaŋ araŋ ne i g'i ku wongu ra, ngey wo ay ga naŋ i ma furo. Laabo kaŋ araŋ fanta mo, ngey wo g'a bay.
32But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
32 Amma araŋ wo, araŋ ga kaŋ jifayaŋ ganji woone ra.
33Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.
33 Araŋ izey mo ga dira boŋdaray ra ganjo ra kala jiiri waytaaci. I g'araŋ naanay-jaŋa jare, hal araŋ jifey kulu ma kaŋ ganjo ra.
34After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’
34 Jirbey kaŋ araŋ na laabo fintal din lasaabo boŋ, danga jirbi waytaaci, zaari fo kulu jiiri fo, yaadin no araŋ g'araŋ izefututara jare nd'a, sanda jiiri waytaaci nooya. Yaadin gaa no araŋ ga bay haŋ kaŋ no d'ay na banda bare _araŋ gaa|_.
35I, Yahweh, have spoken, surely this will I do to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”
35 Ay ya Rabbi no kaŋ salaŋ. Haciika mo ay g'a te jama laalo wo se, kaŋ yaŋ margu ka tun ka gaaba nd'ay. Ganjo wo ra no i ga halaci. Neewo mo no i ga bu.»
36The men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,
36 Alborey din mo, kaŋ yaŋ Musa donton i ma koy ka laabo fintal din, kaŋ yaŋ ye ka kaa ka naŋ jama kulu ma Rabbi jance, i na kalima sanniyaŋ salaŋ laabo boŋ,
37even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.
37 sanda borey kaŋ yaŋ kande baaru laala laabo boŋ, ngey wo bu da balaaw Rabbi jine.
38But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
38 Amma Nun izo Yasuwa da Yefunna izo Kaleb, kaŋ go borey kaŋ koy ka laabo fintal yaŋ ra, borey din funa.
39Moses told these words to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
39 Waato din gaa no Musa na sanney din kulu ci Israyla izey kulu se, hal i na baray bambata te.
40They rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Yahweh has promised: for we have sinned.”
41Moses said, “Why now do you disobey the commandment of Yahweh, since it shall not prosper?
41 Amma Musa ne: «Ifo se no sohõ araŋ ga Rabbi sanno daaru? A si te albarka.
42Don’t go up, for Yahweh isn’t among you; that you not be struck down before your enemies.
42 Wa si ziji fa, zama Rabbi si araŋ game ra. Araŋ ibarey ga hin araŋ,
43For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and you shall fall by the sword: because you are turned back from following Yahweh, therefore Yahweh will not be with you.”
43 zama Amalekancey da Kanaanancey go noodin araŋ jine. Araŋ mo, takuba g'araŋ zeeri, zama araŋ na banda bare Rabbi ganayaŋo gaa, woodin se no a si araŋ banda.»
44But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and Moses, didn’t depart out of the camp.
44 Amma i farrati ka ziji tudo boŋ. Kulu nda yaadin Rabbi sappa sundurko da Musa mana fatta gata ra.
45Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down, even to Hormah.
45 Waati din gaa no, Amalekancey da Kanaanancey kaŋ yaŋ goono ga goro tudo din boŋ zumbu ka borey kar k'i zeeri kal i koy ka to Horma.
