1 Samuel

28

1It happened in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, “Know assuredly that you shall go out with me in the army, you and your men.”
1And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their hosts together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me in the host, thou and thy men.
2David said to Achish, “Therefore you shall know what your servant will do.” Achish said to David, “Therefore will I make you my bodyguard for ever.”
2And David said to Achish, Therefore thou shalt know what thy servant will do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of my head for ever.
3Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Saul had put away those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
3 Samuwila jin ka bu. Israyla kulu mo na bu baray te a se k'a fiji Rama ra, a kwaara ra nooya. Sawulu jin ka borey kaŋ yaŋ gonda ganakoyaŋ da ziimey kulu gaaray ka kaa laabo ra.
3Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
4The Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
4 Filistancey mo margu. I kaa ka gata sinji Sunem ra. Sawulu mo na Israyla kulu margu. I na gata sinji Jilbowa tondo boŋ.
4And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
5When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
5 Waati kaŋ Sawulu di Filistancey wongu marga, a humburu gumo, a bina mo pati nda cimi.
5And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
6When Saul inquired of Yahweh, Yahweh didn’t answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
6 Amma waato kaŋ Sawulu hã Rabbi gaa, Rabbi mana tu a se, baa hindiri ra, wala Urim* do, wala annabey do.
6And when Saul inquired of Jehovah, Jehovah answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
7Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek me a woman who has a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her.” His servants said to him, “Behold, there is a woman who has a familiar spirit at Endor.”
7 Gaa no Sawulu ne nga bannyey se: «Wa ceeci ay se wayboro fo kaŋ gonda ganakoyaŋ zama ay ma koy a do ka ceeci a gaa.» A bannyey binde ne a se: «Guna, wayboro fo go no En-Dor ra kaŋ gonda ganakoyaŋ.»
7Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at En-dor.
8Saul disguised himself, and put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, “Please divine to me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall name to you.”
I kaa waybora do cin.
8And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, Divine unto me, I pray thee, by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomsoever I shall name unto thee.
9The woman said to him, “Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?”
9And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?
10Saul swore to her by Yahweh, saying, “As Yahweh lives, no punishment shall happen to you for this thing.”
10And Saul sware to her by Jehovah, saying, As Jehovah liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.
11Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up to you?” He said, “Bring Samuel up for me.”
11Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.
12When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!”
12 Waato kaŋ waybora di Samuwila, waybora kuuwa nda jinde beeri. Nga din, waybora binde salaŋ Sawulu se ka ne: «Ifo se no ni n'ay fafagu? zama nin no Sawulu.»
12And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
13The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. For what do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.”
13 Bonkoono ne a se: «Ma si humburu. Amma ifo no ni go ga di?» Waybora ne Sawulu se: «Ay di hin fo kaŋ goono ga ziji ka fun laabo ra.»
13And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what seest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I see a god coming up out of the earth.
14He said to her, “What does he look like?” She said, “An old man comes up. He is covered with a robe.” Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and showed respect.
14 Sawulu ne a se: «Himandi fo dumi no ka bara a gaa?» Waybora ne: «Alboro zeeno fo goono ga tun beene. A go mo ga bangum ka daabu nda alkuba.» Sawulu binde faham kaŋ Samuwila no. A binde gurfa ka konda nga moyduma hala ganda ka sombu.
14And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a robe. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and did obeisance.
15Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up?” Saul answered, “I am very distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me, and answers me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I shall do.”
Sawulu tu ka ne: «Ay wo, ay di kayna day no gumo, zama Filistancey kand'ay gaa wongu. Irikoy mo fay da ay. A mana ye ka tu ay se koyne annabey do wala hindirey ra. Woodin se no ay na ni ce, zama ni m'ay bayrandi nda haŋ kaŋ no ay ga te.»
15And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
16Samuel said, “Why then do you ask of me, since Yahweh has departed from you and has become your adversary?
16And Samuel said, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing Jehovah is departed from thee, and is become thine adversary?
17Yahweh has done to you as he spoke by me. Yahweh has torn the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, even to David.
17 Rabbi goy mo ni se sanda mate kaŋ cine a ci din ay me ra: Rabbi na mayra kortu ka kaa ni kambe ra, k'a no ni gorokasino se, kaŋ ga ti Dawda.
17And Jehovah hath done unto thee, as he spake by me: and Jehovah hath rent the kingdom out of thy hand, and given it to thy neighbor, even to David.
18Because you didn’t obey the voice of Yahweh, and didn’t execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore Yahweh has done this thing to you this day.
18 Zama ni mana Rabbi sanno haggoy, ni man'a futay goyo kaŋ ga koroŋ te mo Amalek boŋ.
18Because thou obeyedst not the voice of Jehovah, and didst not execute his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath Jehovah done this thing unto thee this day.
19Moreover Yahweh will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Yahweh will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.”
Rabbi ga Israyla kunda daŋ Filistancey kambe ra.»
19Moreover Jehovah will deliver Israel also with thee into the hand of the Philistines; and to-morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: Jehovah will deliver the host of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.
20Then Saul fell immediately his full length on the earth, and was terrified, because of the words of Samuel. There was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.
20 Sawulu to ka maa woodin, kal a kaŋ ganda sahãadin, ganda birante. A go ga humburu gumo Samuwila sanno se. Gaabi kulu mana cindi a gaahamo ra, zama a mana ŋwaari ŋwa zaaro me-a-me hala nda cino kulu mo.
20Then Saul fell straightway his full length upon the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.
21The woman came to Saul, and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, “Behold, your handmaid has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.
21 Kala waybora kaa Sawulu do. A faham ka bay mo kaŋ a kankam gumo, ka ne Sawulu se: «Guna ay, ni koŋŋa maa ni sanney. Ay n'ay fundo daŋ kataru ra, ay na hanga jeeri ni sanno kaŋ ni ci ay se gaa mo.
21And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thy handmaid hath hearkened unto thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.
22Now therefore, please listen also to the voice of your handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength, when you go on your way.”
22Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thy handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
23But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, constrained him; and he listened to their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat on the bed.
23 Amma a wangu. A ne: «Ay si ŋwa.» Amma a bannyey da waybora soobay k'a faali ka hin a. Nga mo maa i sanno. A binde tun ganda laabo ra, ka goro dima boŋ.
23But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, constrained him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.
24The woman had a fattened calf in the house. She hurried and killed it; and she took flour, and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread of it.
24 Nga din, waybora gonda handayze kaŋ i goono ga kuru a kwaara. Kal a waasu k'a wi.
24And the woman had a fatted calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it; and she took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:
25She brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they ate. Then they rose up, and went away that night.
25 A kande ŋwaaro ka daŋ Sawulu nda nga bannyey jine. I ŋwa, woodin banda i tun cino din ra ka ngey diraw te.
25and she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.
