1Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?
1 Man gaa no wongey goono ga fun? Man gaa mo no yanjey goono ga fun araŋ game ra? Manti araŋ ibaay laaley ra no i goono ga fun, kaŋ yaŋ goono ga wongu te araŋ gaahamey ra?
1Whence [come] wars and whence [come] fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your pleasures that war in your members?
2You lust, and don’t have. You kill, covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.
2 Araŋ goono ga bini, araŋ si du mo. Araŋ goono ga wi, araŋ goono ga canse, araŋ si hin ka du mo. Araŋ goono ga yanje, araŋ goono ga wongu te. Araŋ si du zama araŋ si ŋwaaray no.
2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and covet, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war; ye have not, because ye ask not.
3You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.
3 Araŋ goono ga ŋwaaray, araŋ si du mo, zama araŋ goono ga hatta no araŋ adduwey ra, zama araŋ m'araŋ ibaay laaley laami kaa.
3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend [it] in your pleasures.
4You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
4 Ya araŋ zina-teerey, araŋ si bay kaŋ ndunnya corotaray ya Irikoy ibaretaray no? Yaadin gaa, boro kulu kaŋ ga ba nga ma ciya ndunnya coro, a na nga boŋ te Irikoy ibare nooya.
4Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.
5Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?
5 Wala mo araŋ goono ga tammahã Irikoy Tira Hanney salaŋ yaamo no kaŋ i ne: Biya _Hanna|_ kaŋ Irikoy gorandi iri ra goono ga canse iri se gumo?
5Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying?
6But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34
6 Amma Irikoy goono ga gomni no ka tonton. Woodin sabbay se Irikoy Sanno ne: «Irikoy ga wangu boŋbeeraykoy, Amma a ga gomni no lalabukoy se.»
6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore [the scripture] saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
7Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
7 Wa araŋ boŋ ye ganda Irikoy se, amma araŋ ma wangu Iblisi se, a ga zuru araŋ se mo.
7Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
8 Araŋ ma maan Irikoy gaa, nga mo ga maan araŋ gaa. Ya araŋ zunubikooney, w'araŋ kambey hanandi! Araŋ bine-hinka-koyey, w'araŋ biney hanandi!
8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.
9Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.
9 Wa te bine saray, wa bu baray te, wa hẽ. Wa naŋ araŋ haarey ma bare ka te barayyaŋ, araŋ farhã mo ma bare ka te bine saray!
9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
10 Wa araŋ boŋ kaynandi Rabbi jine, nga mo g'araŋ beerandi.
10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you.
11Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
11 Ay nya-izey, araŋ ma si care ciinay da taali. Boro kaŋ ga nga nya-ize ciinay da taali, wala a ga nga nya-ize ciiti, a goono ga asariya* ciinay da taali k'a ciiti mo. Amma da ni ga asariya ciiti, yaadin gaa ni manti asariya ganako, amma ni wo asariya ciitiko no.
11Speak not one against another, brethren. He that speaketh against a brother, or judgeth his brother, speaketh against the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?
12 Zama asariya Nooko da Ciitiko folloŋ hinne ka bara. Nga no gonda faaba dabari, a gonda halaciyaŋ dabari mo. Ni wo may no, kaŋ ga ni gorokasin ciiti?
12One [only] is the lawgiver and judge, [even] he who is able to save and to destroy: but who art thou that judgest thy neighbor?
13Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”
13 Wa maa, araŋ kaŋ goono ga ne: «Hunkuna wala suba iri ga koy birni fo ra ka te jiiri fo noodin ka fatawci ka riiba margu.»
13Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain:
14Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.
14 Araŋ kaŋ si baa bay haŋ kaŋ ga te suba! Ifo no ga ti araŋ fundey? Araŋ wo dullu no kaŋ ga bangay alwaati kayna, woodin banda a ga say-say ka daray.
14whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”
15 Amma woone no araŋ ga hima ka ne: Da Rabbi ba, iri ga funa ka ya-cine nda ya-cine te.
15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.
16But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
16 Amma sohõ araŋ goono ga fooma araŋ boŋbeera ra. Fooma wo dumi kulu ilaalo no.
16But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.
17To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
17 Yaadin gaa, boro kaŋ ga ihanno bay kaŋ si g'a te mo, bora se woodin ya zunubi no.
17To him therefore that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
