2

1The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
1 Rabbi sanno kaa ay do koyne ka ne:
1And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,
2“Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “I remember for you the kindness of your youth, the love of your weddings; how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
2 Ma koy ka fe Urusalima hangey ra ka ne: Yaa no Rabbi ci: Ay fongu ni zankataray naanayo, Da ni hiija jirbi iyya baakasina, Mate kaŋ cine ni n'ay gana ka koy hala saajo ra, Nangu kaŋ i mana duma ce fo.
2Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I remember for thee the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals; how thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
3Israel was holiness to Yahweh, the first fruits of his increase. All who devour him shall be held guilty. Evil shall come on them,”’ says Yahweh.”
3 Doŋ Israyla* wo hanante no Rabbi se, A nafa boŋ-jina no. Borey kulu kaŋ n'a ŋwa, woodin ciya a se taali, Masiiba kaŋ i boŋ. Yaadin no Rabbi ci.
3Israel [was] holiness unto Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him shall be held guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith Jehovah.
4Hear the word of Yahweh, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel!
4 Ya Yakuba dumo kaŋ ga ti Israyla dumo almayaaley kulu, Wa maa Rabbi sanno,
4Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
5Thus says Yahweh, “What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
5 Yaa no Rabbi ci: Adilitaray-jaŋay woofo dumi no araŋ kaayey gar ay do, Kaŋ ga naŋ i ma mooru ay, ka goy yaamo gana, Hala ngey bumbey mo ciya yaamo?
5thus saith Jehovah, What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
6Neither did they say, ‘Where is Yahweh who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that none passed through, and where no man lived?’
6 I mana ne mo: «Man Rabbi kaŋ n'iri kaa Misira laabo ra. Nga kaŋ n'iri candi saajo ra, laabo kaŋ gonda taasi beerey ra, Kaŋ gonda laabu guusey, koogay laabu, Kaŋ gonda kubay bi tik! Kaŋ ra boro kulu si gana, Boro kulu siino ga goro a ra mo?»
6Neither said they, Where is Jehovah that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that none passed through, and where no man dwelt?
7I brought you into a plentiful land, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.
7 Ay kande araŋ laabu albarkante fo ra, Zama araŋ m'a nafa nd'a izey ŋwa. Amma waato kaŋ cine araŋ furo, araŋ n'ay laabo ziibandi, Araŋ n'ay wane laabo ciya fanta hari.
7And I brought you into a plentiful land, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.
8The priests didn’t say, ‘Where is Yahweh?’ and those who handle the law didn’t know me. The rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
8 Alfagey mana ne: «Man no Rabbi go?» Asariya goy teekoy man'ay bay, Mayraykoyey n'ay asariya taamu, Annabey* mo na annabitaray te Baal* maa gaa, I na muraaduyaŋ kaŋ sinda nafa gana.
8The priests said not, Where is Jehovah? and they that handle the law knew me not: the rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
9“Therefore I will yet contend with you,” says Yahweh, “and I will contend with your children’s children.
9 A binde, hala sohõ ay ga kakaw d'araŋ. Yaadin no Rabbi ci. Ay ga kakaw d'araŋ haamey mo.
9Wherefore I will yet contend with you, saith Jehovah, and with your children's children will I contend.
10For pass over to the islands of Kittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently; and see if there has been such a thing.
10 Wa daaru ka koy Cittim gungo do, Araŋ ma guna ka di ka donton Kedar gaa. Araŋ ma fintal hal a ma boori ka di hal i na hayo wo dumi te ce fo.
10For pass over to the isles of Kittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently; and see if there hath been such a thing.
11Has a nation changed its gods, which really are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.
11 Mate no? Ndunnya dumi fo go no kaŋ bay ka nga de-koyey barmay? Baa kaŋ manti irikoyyaŋ no!
11Hath a nation changed [its] gods, which yet are no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
12“Be astonished, you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid. Be very desolate,” says Yahweh.
12 Ya beeney, wa dambara nda woodin, Araŋ ma humburu gumo, araŋ ma jijiri gumo. Yaadin no Rabbi ci.
12Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith Jehovah.
13“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
13For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
14Is Israel a servant? Is he a native-born slave? Why has he become a prey?
14 Israyla ya bannya no, Wala tam kaŋ i hay windi ra no? Ifo se no a ciya diire hari?
14Is Israel a servant? is he a home-born [slave]? why is he become a prey?
15The young lions have roared at him, and yelled. They have made his land waste. His cities are burned up, without inhabitant.
15 Muusu izey dundu a gaa, i na jinde sambu. I n'a laabo ciya saaji, I n'a galley ton hal i sinda goroko mo.
15The young lions have roared upon him, and yelled; and they have made his land waste: his cities are burned up, without inhabitant.
16The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of your head.
16The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of thy head.
17“Haven’t you procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken Yahweh your God , when he led you by the way?
17 Manti nin no ka woodin candi ka kande ni boŋ gaa, Za kaŋ ni fay nda Rabbi ni Irikoyo, Waati kaŋ a go ga ni candi fonda ra?
17Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, when he led thee by the way?
18Now what have you to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or what have you to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?
18And now what hast thou to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? or what hast thou to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?
19“Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backsliding shall reprove you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, and that my fear is not in you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.
Ay humburkuma si no ni do mo. Yaadin no Rabbi Kundeykoyo ci.
19Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.
20“For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bonds; and you said, ‘I will not serve;’ for on every high hill and under every green tree you bowed yourself, playing the prostitute.
Zama tudu kuuku kulu boŋ, Da tuuri-nya kulu kaŋ gonda bi, a cire no ni goono ga kani ka kaaruwataray* goy te.
20For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bonds; and thou saidst, I will not serve; for upon every high hill and under every green tree thou didst bow thyself, playing the harlot.
21Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?
21Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine unto me?
22For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me,” says the Lord Yahweh.
22 Baa ni na ni boŋ nyumay nda soso hari, Ma sambu safun boobo, Kulu nda yaadin ni laalayaŋo taray kwaaray no a go ay jine. Yaadin no Rabbi, Koy Beero ci.
22For though thou wash thee with lye, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord Jehovah.
23“How can you say, ‘I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals’? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;
23 Mate no ni ga te ka ne: «Ay mana ziibi me, ay mana Baaley gana?» Guna, ni fonda neeya gooro ra, Ni bay haŋ kaŋ ni te, Ni ya yo no kaŋ ga waasu, a ga mulay mo.
23How canst thou say, I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: [thou art] a swift dromedary traversing her ways;
24a wild donkey used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind in her desire. When she is in heat, who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not weary themselves. In her month, they will find her.
24 Ganji farka way doona saajo ra goray, Nga kaŋ ga haw ta nda nga bine anniya, D'a tun, may no ga hin k'a bare? Aru kulu kaŋ g'a ceeci si farga nd'a ceeciyaŋ, A kubayyaŋ handu no i ga du a.
24a wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind in her desire; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
25“Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst. But you said, ‘It is in vain. No, for I have loved strangers, and I will go after them.’
25 Ma si ta ni ce ma jaŋ taamu, Ma si ta mo ni karra ma koogu nda jaw. Amma ni ne: «Daama si no. Abada! Ay wo kay, yawey day no ay ga ba, Ay g'i gana mo.»
25Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, It is in vain; no, for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.
26As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets;
26 Sanda mate kaŋ cine zay ga haaw d'i du a ka di, Yaadin cine no Israyla dumo ga haaw, Ngey nda ngey bonkooney, d'i mayraykoyey, D'i alfagey, d'i annabey mo.
26As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets;
27who tell wood, ‘You are my father;’ and a stone, ‘You have brought me out:’ for they have turned their back to me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us.’
27 Ngey no go ga ne bundu se: «Ni ya ay baaba no.» I ma ne tondi mo se: «Nin no ga ti nyaŋo kaŋ n'ay hay.» I na banda bare ay gaa, manti i moydumey. Amma i masiiba jirbey ra i ga ne ay se: «Ma tun k'iri faaba!»
27who say to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
28“But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for according to the number of your cities are your gods, Judah.
28 Amma man gaa no ni toorey kaŋ ni te go? I ma tun me, d'i ga hin, Ka ni faaba masiiba alwaati ra.
28But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
29“Why will you contend with me? You all have transgressed against me,” says Yahweh.
29 Ifo se no araŋ go g'ay kakaw? Araŋ kulu murte ay gaa. Yaadin no Rabbi ci.
29Wherefore will ye contend with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith Jehovah.
30“I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
30 Yaamo boŋ no ay n'araŋ izey kar, I mana goojiyaŋ ta. Araŋ bumbo takuba n'araŋ annabey ŋwa, Sanda muusu beeri kaŋ ga halaci.
30In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
31Generation, consider the word of Yahweh. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, ‘We have broken loose. We will come to you no more?’
Ifo se binde no kaŋ ay jama goono ga ne: «Taŋante no iri go, iri si ye ka koy ni do koyne?»
31O generation, see ye the word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? or a land of thick darkness? wherefore say my people, We are broken loose; we will come no more unto thee?
32“Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number.
Kulu nda yaadin, Ay borey dinya ay gaa jirbiyaŋ kaŋ sinda me.
32Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
33How well you prepare your way to seek love! Therefore you have taught even the wicked women your ways.
33How trimmest thou thy way to seek love! therefore even the wicked women hast thou taught thy ways.
34Also the blood of the souls of the innocent poor is found in your skirts. You did not find them breaking in; but it is because of all these things.
34 Ni bankaarayey gaa gonda kuri, Boro kaŋ sinda taali yaŋ wane, kaŋ yaŋ ga talka. Baa kaŋ ni man'i gar i go ga fuwo fun. Amma woodin yaŋ baa si,
34Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor: thou didst not find them breaking in; but it is because of all these things.
35“Yet you said, ‘I am innocent. Surely his anger has turned away from me.’ “Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’
A go, ay ga konda nin ciiti do, Zama ni ne ni mana zunubi te.
35Yet thou saidst, I am innocent; surely his anger is turned away from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
36Why do you go about so much to change your way? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.
36Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt also, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.
37From there also you shall go forth, with your hands on your head; for Yahweh has rejected those in whom you trust, and you shall not prosper with them.
37From thence also shalt thou go forth, with thy hands upon thy head: for Jehovah hath rejected those in whom thou trustest, and thou shalt not prosper with them.
