1It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. saying, “Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”

28It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
