1Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of a prostitute: and Gilead became the father of Jephthah.
1 Yefta wo binde, Jileyad boro, nga wo yaarukom no, kaaruwa fo ize no. Jileyad ga ti a baaba.
1Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of a harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.
2Gilead’s wife bore him sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove out Jephthah, and said to him, “You shall not inherit in our father’s house; for you are the son of another woman.”
Waato kaŋ a wando izey beeri, i na Yefta gaaray. I ne a se: «Ni si du ka tubu ŋwa iri baaba windo ra, zama ni ya wayboro fo ize no.»
2And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and when his wife's sons grew up, they drove out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of another woman.
3Then Jephthah fled from his brothers, and lived in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him.
3 Saaya din binde Yefta zuru ka dira nga baabayzey do. A koy ka goro Tob laabo ra. Noodin binde boro yaamoyaŋ koonu no ka margu Yefta do.
3Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him.
4It happened after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
4 A ciya no, kaŋ i gay kayna fo, kala Amon izey na Israyla wongu.
4And it came to pass after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
5It was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah out of the land of Tob;
5 A ciya binde, waato kaŋ Amon izey na Israyla wongu, kala Jileyad arkusey koy zama ngey ma kande Yefta, a ma fun Tob laabo ra.
5And it was so, that, when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob;
6and they said to Jephthah, “Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.”
6and they said unto Jephthah, Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
7Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Didn’t you hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”
7 Gaa no Yefta ne Jileyad arkusey se: «Manti araŋ no ka wangu ay bo? Araŋ n'ay gaaray k'ay kaa ay baaba windo ra. Day, ifo se no araŋ kaa ay do sohõ kaŋ araŋ go gurzugay ra?»
7And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and drive me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?
8The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Therefore we have turned again to you now, that you may go with us, and fight with the children of Ammon; and you shall be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
8And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore are we turned again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight with the children of Ammon; and thou shalt be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and Yahweh deliver them before me, shall I be your head?”
9 Yefta ne Jileyad arkusey se: «D'araŋ ye nd'ay fu zama ay ma Amon izey wongu, Rabbi mo n'i nooyandi ay se, ay ga ciya araŋ jine boro no?»
9And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and Jehovah deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
10The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Yahweh shall be witness between us; surely according to your word so will we do.”
10And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Jehovah shall be witness between us; surely according to thy word so will we do.
11Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them: and Jephthah spoke all his words before Yahweh in Mizpah.
11 Waato din gaa Yefta koy, nga nda Jileyad arkusey. Borey mo n'a ciya ngey jine boro da ngey koyo. Yefta na nga sanney kulu dede Rabbi jine Mizpa ra.
11Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them: and Jephthah spake all his words before Jehovah in Mizpah.
12Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, “What have you to do with me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?”
12And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come unto me to fight against my land?
13The king of the children of Ammon answered to the messengers of Jephthah, “Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and to the Jordan: now therefore restore that territory again peaceably.”
13 Amon izey bonkoono tu Yefta diyey se ka ne: «Zama Israyla izey n'ay laabo kom waato kaŋ i fun Misira, za Arnon isa gaa kal a ma koy Yabok isa da Urdun isa gaa.
13And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even unto the Jabbok, and unto the Jordan: now therefore restore those [lands] again peaceably.
14Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon;
14 Saaya din koyne Yefta ye ka diyayaŋ donton i ma koy Amon izey bonkoono do,
14And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon;
15and he said to him, “Thus says Jephthah: Israel didn’t take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon,
15and he said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah: Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon,
16but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , and came to Kadesh;
16 Amma waato kaŋ i fun Misira, Israyla na saaji gana ka koy hala Teeku Cira gaa, i kaa Kades mo.
16but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness unto the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh;
17then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let me pass through your land;’ but the king of Edom didn’t listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab; but he would not: and Israel stayed in Kadesh.
Yaadin mo no a ye ka donton Mowab bonkoono mo gaa, nga mo wangu. Israyla binde goro noodin Kades.
17then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land; but the king of Edom hearkened not. And in like manner he sent unto the king of Moab; but he would not: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
18Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they didn’t come within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.
18 Waato din gaa a ye ka gana saajo ra, a na Edom laabo da Mowab laabo windi. I gana Mowab laabo se wayna funay haray. I na gata sinji Arnon daŋanta, amma i mana furo Mowab hirro ra, zama Arnon isa, nga no ga ti Mowab hirro me.
18Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they came not within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.
19Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, ‘Please let us pass through your land to my place.’
19 Israyla na diyayaŋ donton koyne Sihon Amorancey bonkoono gaa, kaŋ ga ti Hesbon bonkoono. Israyla ne a se: ‹Ma naŋ iri ma gana ni laabo ra ka bisa. Iri ma koy ka to iri wano do.›
19And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land unto my place.
20But Sihon didn’t trust Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
20 Amma Sihon mana ta Israyla ma gana nga hirro me ra, kala Sihon na nga jama kulu margu. A na gata sinji Yahaz ra ka Israyla di wongu.
20But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21Yahweh, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
21And Jehovah, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22They possessed all the border of the Amorites, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to the Jordan.
22And they possessed all the border of the Amorites, from the Arnon even unto the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto the Jordan.
23So now Yahweh, the God of Israel, has dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and should you possess them?
23 Ni di, yaadin cine no Rabbi, Israyla Irikoyo na Amorancey laabey ta d'a i gaa, ka no nga borey kaŋ ti Israyla se. Ni binde, ni g'i tubu no?
23So now Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess them?
24Won’t you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever Yahweh our God has dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.
24 Haŋ kaŋ Kemos ni de-koyo na ni no, ni s'a ŋwa? Boro kulu binde kaŋ Rabbi iri Irikoyo n'i kaa taray k'iri no i laabo, nga no iri ga ŋwa.
24Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever Jehovah our God hath dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.
25Now are you anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?
25 Wala man no ni bisa Mowab bonkoono Balak, Zippor izo? A na Israyla si nga nd'a ma gurjay ce fo no? A n'i taba wongu gaa ce fo no?
25And now art thou anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?
26While Israel lived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, three hundred years; why didn’t you recover them within that time?
26 Waato kaŋ Israyla goono ga goro Hesbon d'a kawyey kulu ra, da Arower da nga kawyey, da Arnon me gaa birney kulu ra, kal a to jiiri zangu hinza, ifo se no araŋ mana ye k'i ta alwaato din ra?
26While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, three hundred years; wherefore did ye not recover them within that time?
27I therefore have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong to war against me. Yahweh, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.”
27 Ay ya, binde, yana zunubi te ni se fa, amma nin no goono ga taali te ay se, za kaŋ ni n'ay wongu. Rabbi, kaŋ ga ciiti ma ciiti hunkuna Israyla izey da Amon izey game ra. »
27I therefore have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: Jehovah, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
28However the king of the children of Ammon didn’t listen to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
28 Amma kulu nda yaadin Amon izey bonkoono mana Yefta sanno kaŋ a donton nga gaa din saal.
28Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
29Then the Spirit of Yahweh came on Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.
29 Saaya din binde Rabbi Biya zumbu Yefta boŋ. A gana mo Jileyad da Manasse ra. Noodin a gana ka bisa Mizpa, Jileyad wano ra. Mizpa kaŋ go Jileyad do no a gana ka bisa ka daŋandi ka koy Amon izey do haray.
29Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
30Jephthah vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,
30And Jephthah vowed a vow unto Jehovah, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,
31then it shall be, that whatever comes forth from the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be Yahweh’s, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.”
31 doŋ a ga ciya, hay kulu kaŋ fatta ay windi meyey gaa nga ma ay kubay se, waato kaŋ ay ye ka kaa fu baani samay ka fun Amon ce ganayaŋ -- a ga ciya Rabbi wane. Ay g'a nooyandi sargay kaŋ i ga ton.»
31then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth from the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be Jehovah's, and I will offer it up for a burnt-offering.
32So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Yahweh delivered them into his hand.
32 Kala Yefta daŋandi ka koy Amon izey do haray zama nga m'i wongu, Rabbi n'i daŋ a kambe ra mo.
32So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Jehovah delivered them into his hand.
33He struck them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
33 A n'i kar za Arower gaa kal a koy Minnit gaa, birni waranka nooya, ka koy hala Abel-Keramim mo. A n'i wi da wiyaŋ bambata. Yaadin cine no Amon izey ye Israyla izey mayray cire nd'a.
33And he smote them from Aroer until thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto Abelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances: and she was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
34 Yefta binde ye ka kaa fu nga kwaara do Mizpa. Guna mo, a ize wayo fatta k'a kubay da gaasu haray da gaani. Nga hinne mo ga ti Yefta se ize, a banda a sinda ize way fo wala ize aru fo.
34And Jephthah came to Mizpah unto his house; and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
35It happened, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are one of those who trouble me; for I have opened my mouth to Yahweh, and I can’t go back.”
35 Kala saaya kaŋ cine a di nga izo, a na nga bankaaray tooru-tooru.
35And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me; for I have opened my mouth unto Jehovah, and I cannot go back.
36She said to him, “My father, you have opened your mouth to Yahweh; do to me according to that which has proceeded out of your mouth, because Yahweh has taken vengeance for you on your enemies, even on the children of Ammon.”
36And she said unto him, My father, thou hast opened thy mouth unto Jehovah; do unto me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth, forasmuch as Jehovah hath taken vengeance for thee on thine enemies, even on the children of Ammon.
37She said to her father, “Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may depart and go down on the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.”
37 A ne mo nga baabo se: «I ma woone te ay se: i m'ay naŋ handu hinka, zama ay ma tun ka koy tondey ra ka bar-bare, ay ma ay wandiyotara hẽeni te, in d'ay corey.»
37And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may depart and go down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.
38He said, “Go.” He sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and mourned her virginity on the mountains.
38 Baabo ne: «Ma koy.» Baabo n'a sallama zama a ma koy ka te handu hinka. Wandiya binde tun, nga nda nga corey. I koy tondey ra, i go g'a wandiyotara hẽeni te.
38And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
39It happened at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she was a virgin. It was a custom in Israel,
39 I go no, handu hinkanta bananta, a ye ka kaa nga baabo do. Nga mo te a se mate kaŋ a na nga sarto sambu din boŋ. Wandiya mana alboro bay mo. A ciya alaada Israyla ra,
39And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew not man. And it was a custom in Israel,
40that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
40 Israyla ize wandiyey ga fatta jiiri kulu ka Yefta Jileyad bora ize wandiya hẽeni te jirbi taaci.
40that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
