Luke

12

1Meanwhile, when a multitude of many thousands had gathered together, so much so that they trampled on each other, he began to tell his disciples first of all, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
1 Alwaato din ra, kaŋ borey margu zambar-zambarey, hal i goono ga care taamu, kala Yesu sintin ka ne nga talibey se jina: «Araŋ ma haggoy da Farisi* fonda borey dalbuwo*, kaŋ ga ti munaficitaray.
1In the mean time, when the many thousands of the multitude were gathered together, insomuch that they trod one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
2 But there is nothing covered up, that will not be revealed, nor hidden, that will not be known.
2 Zama hay kulu si no daabante kaŋ i s'a feeri. Hay kulu si no mo tugante kaŋ i si aniya ka bay a gaa.
2But there is nothing covered up, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
3 Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light. What you have spoken in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
3 Woodin sabbay se, hay kulu kaŋ araŋ ci kubay ra, i ga maa woodin kaari ra. Haŋ kaŋ araŋ ga salaŋ hanga ra lokoto-lokotey ra, i ga fatta k'a fe fuwey boŋ.
3Wherefore whatsoever ye have said in the darkness shall be heard in the light; and what ye have spoken in the ear in the inner chambers shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
4 “I tell you, my friends, don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
4 Ay ga ne araŋ kaŋ ga ti ay corey se mo: araŋ ma si humburu borey kaŋ yaŋ ga gaaham wi, woodin banda i sinda hay kulu kaŋ i ga hin ka te.
4And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5 But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him, who after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna. Yes, I tell you, fear him.
5 Amma ay g'araŋ kaseeti da nga kaŋ araŋ ga hima ka humburu. Araŋ ma humburu nga kaŋ, wiyaŋ banda, gonda dabari a m'araŋ jindaw danji* bango ra. Oho me, ay ga ne araŋ se: wa humburu nga.
5But I will warn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
6 “Aren’t five sparrows sold for two assaria coins ? Not one of them is forgotten by God.
6 Manti i ga sasa gu neera dala hinka? Kaŋ i ra baa afo Irikoy mana dinya a gaa.
6Are not five sparrows sold for two pence? and not one of them is forgotten in the sight of God.
7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
7 Amma, i n'araŋ boŋ hamney kulu kabu. Araŋ ma si humburu, zama araŋ bisa sasa boobo darza!
7But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
8 “I tell you, everyone who confesses me before men, him will the Son of Man also confess before the angels of God;
8 Woodin banda ay ga ne araŋ se: boro kulu kaŋ g'ay seeda borey jine, ay, Boro Izo g'a koy seeda Irikoy malaykey jine.
8And I say unto you, Every one who shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
9 but he who denies me in the presence of men will be denied in the presence of the angels of God.
9 Amma boro kaŋ n'ay ze borey jine, ay g'a koy ze Irikoy malaykey jine.
9but he that denieth me in the presence of men shall be denied in the presence of the angels of God.
10 Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
10 Boro kulu mo kaŋ na sanni yaamo te Boro Izo boŋ, i g'a yaafa a se. Amma boro kaŋ ga Biya Hanna kayna, i s'a yaafa bora din se.
10And every one who shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Spirit it shall not be forgiven.
11 When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, don’t be anxious how or what you will answer, or what you will say;
11 Amma waati kaŋ i g'araŋ candi Yahudance diina marga borey, wala koyey, wala mo dabarikoyey jine, araŋ laakal ma si tun da tuyaŋ kaŋ dumi araŋ ga te, wala haŋ kaŋ araŋ ga ci.
11And when they bring you before the synagogues, and the rulers, and the authorities, be not anxious how or what ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you must say.”
12 Zama saaya din ra no Biya Hanno g'araŋ dondonandi nda hayey kaŋ yaŋ araŋ ga hima ka ci.»
12for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in that very hour what ye ought to say.
13One of the multitude said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
13 Boro fo kaŋ go borey marga game ra ne a se: «Alfa, ma ci ay nya izo se a ma tubo fay in d'a game ra.»
13And one out of the multitude said unto him, Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me.
14But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?”
14 Amma Yesu wo ne a se: «Albora, may no k'ay daŋ alkaali wala fayko araŋ game ra?»
14But he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
15He said to them, “Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.”
15 A ne i se mo: «Araŋ ma haggoy k'araŋ boŋ gaay biniyaŋ laalo kulu gaa, zama manti arzaka boobo kaŋ go boro se no ga naŋ a fundo ma yulwa nda albarka.»
15And he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
16He spoke a parable to them, saying, “The ground of a certain rich man brought forth abundantly.
16 Kal a na misa fo salaŋ i se ka ne: «Arzakante fo laabu na albarka boobo hay.
16And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17 He reasoned within himself, saying, ‘What will I do, because I don’t have room to store my crops?’
17 Nga mo, a lasaabu nga boŋo ra ka ne: ‹Ifo no ay ga te? Zama ay sinda nangu kaŋ ay g'ay albarka margu.›
17and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow my fruits?
18 He said, ‘This is what I will do. I will pull down my barns, and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
18 A ne mo: ‹Haŋ kaŋ ay ga te neeya: ay g'ay barmey feeri ka afooyaŋ cina kaŋ ga beeri nd'ey. Noodin no ay g'ay ntaaso d'ay arzaka jisi.
18And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my grain and my goods.
19 I will tell my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.”’
19And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry.
20 “But God said to him, ‘You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?’
20 Amma Irikoy ne a se: ‹Nin saamo! Hunkuna cino wo ra ay ga ni fundo ceeci ni gaa. Hayey kaŋ ni soola binde, may se no i ga bara?›
20But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be?
21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
21 Yaadin mo no nga nda boro kaŋ ga arzaka jisi nga boŋ se, nga wo manti arzakante no Irikoy do.»
21So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
22He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear.
22And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for [your] life, what ye shall eat; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.
23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.
23 Zama fundi ga bisa ŋwaari, gaahamo mo ga bisa bankaaray.
23For the life is more than the food, and the body than the raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: they don’t sow, they don’t reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!
24 Wa gaarey guna. I siino ga duma, i siino ga wi mo, i sinda jisiri do wala barma. Irikoy g'i ŋwaayandi mo. Sanda ifo cine no araŋ ga bisa curey!
24Consider the ravens, that they sow not, neither reap; which have no store-chamber nor barn; and God feedeth them: of how much more value are ye than the birds!
25 Which of you by being anxious can add a cubit to his height?
25 Woodin banda, may no araŋ ra kaŋ nga boŋ karhã do ga hin ka baa kambe kar folloŋ tonton nga kuuyaŋo gaa?
25And which of you by being anxious can add a cubit unto the measure of his life?
26 If then you aren’t able to do even the least things, why are you anxious about the rest?
26 D'araŋ si hin ka te haŋ kaŋ ga kayna ka bisa, ifo se no araŋ ga karhã cindey sabbay se?
26If then ye are not able to do even that which is least, why are ye anxious concerning the rest?
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow. They don’t toil, neither do they spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
27 Araŋ ma waaliya bokey guna, beeray kaŋ cine i ga te. I si ga taabi, i siino ga silli bi. Kulu nda yaadin ay ga ne araŋ se: baa Suleymanu nda nga darza kulu mana sutura ka to i afo cine.
27Consider the lilies, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; yet I say unto you, Even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 But if this is how God clothes the grass in the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?
28 Amma da Irikoy ga bankaaray yaadin te subu kaŋ go batama ra se, kaŋ hunkuna a go no, suba mo i g'a catu danji ra, sanku fa araŋ, a g'araŋ bankaara, cimbeeri kayna koyey.
28But if God doth so clothe the grass in the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven; how much more [shall he clothe] you, O ye of little faith?
29 Don’t seek what you will eat or what you will drink; neither be anxious.
29 Araŋ ma si ceeci haŋ kaŋ araŋ ga ŋwa da haŋ kaŋ araŋ ga haŋ, wa si karhã mo.
29And seek not ye what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things.
30 Zama hayey din kulu, ndunnya dumey goono g'i ceeci, amma araŋ Baabo ga bay araŋ ga laami nd'ey.
30For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But seek God’s Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.
31 Day wa Irikoy koytara ceeci, nga mo ga hayey din tonton araŋ se.
31Yet seek ye his kingdom, and these things shall be added unto you.
32 Don’t be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.
32 Ya araŋ kuru kayna, wa si humburu! Zama a ga kaan araŋ Baabo se a m'araŋ no koytara.
32Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
33 Sell that which you have, and give gifts to the needy. Make for yourselves purses which don’t grow old, a treasure in the heavens that doesn’t fail, where no thief approaches, neither moth destroys.
33 Wa araŋ arzaka neera ka no sargayyaŋ. Wa fooloyaŋ te araŋ boŋ se kaŋ yaŋ si zeen, arzaka kaŋ si gaze. Beena ra n'a go, nangu kaŋ zay si maan, kollo mo si hasaraw te.
33Sell that which ye have, and give alms; make for yourselves purses which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief draweth near, neither moth destroyeth.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
34 Zama nango kaŋ ni arzaka go, noodin no ni bina mo ga bara.
34For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
35 “Let your waist be dressed and your lamps burning.
35 Araŋ ma goro nda guddama, araŋ fitilley goono ga di.
35Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning;
36 Be like men watching for their lord, when he returns from the marriage feast; that, when he comes and knocks, they may immediately open to him.
36 Araŋ ma bara danga borey kaŋ yaŋ ga ngey koyo fonda guna, waati kaŋ a ga kaa ka fun hiijay bato do, zama d'a kaa ka kobi, i ma fiti a se sahãadin.
36and be ye yourselves like unto men looking for their lord, when he shall return from the marriage feast; that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may straightway open unto him.
37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord will find watching when he comes. Most certainly I tell you, that he will dress himself, and make them recline, and will come and serve them.
37 Albarkanteyaŋ no bannyey din kaŋ d'i koyo kaa, a ga kaa ka gar i goono g'a batu. Haciika ay ga ne araŋ se: a ga nga boŋ guddu, k'i gorandi ŋwaaro do, a ma kaa k'i saajaw.
37Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them.
38 They will be blessed if he comes in the second or third watch, and finds them so.
38 Da mo cin batu hinkanta ra no a kaa, wala ihinzanta ra, k'i gar yaadin, albarkanteyaŋ no bannyey din.
38And if he shall come in the second watch, and if in the third, and find [them] so blessed are those [servants].
39 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not allowed his house to be broken into.
39 Amma ma woone bay: da windikoyo ga bay saaya kaŋ no zay ga kaa, a si naŋ i ma nga fuwo fun.
39But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have left his house to be broken through.
40 Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hour that you don’t expect him.”
40 Araŋ mo ma goro soolanteyaŋ, zama saaya kaŋ ra araŋ mana tammahã no Boro Izo ga kaa.»
40Be ye also ready: for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh.
41Peter said to him, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everybody?”
41 Bitros ne: «Rabbi, iri se no ni goono ga misa wo ci, wala boro kulu se?»
41And Peter said, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even unto all?
42The Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the right times?
42 Rabbi mo ne: «May no binde jine funo wo kaŋ gonda naanay da laakal, kaŋ a koyo n'a daŋ nga windo almayaaley boŋ, zama a m'i no ŋwaari alwaato kaŋ ga hagu ra?
42And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?
43 Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes.
43 Tamo wo ya albarkante no, d'a koyo kaa ka gar a goono ga te yaadin.
43Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
44 Truly I tell you, that he will set him over all that he has.
44 Haciika ay ga ne araŋ se: a g'a daŋ a ma nga jinayey kulu dabari.
44Of a truth I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he hath.
45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My lord delays his coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken,
45 Amma da tam din ga ne nga bina ra: ‹Ay koyo ga gay hal a ga kaa,› hal a ma soobay ka tamtaray hangasiney kar, alborey da wayborey, a ma ŋwa ka haŋ ka bugu mo.
45But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46 then the lord of that servant will come in a day when he isn’t expecting him, and in an hour that he doesn’t know, and will cut him in two, and place his portion with the unfaithful.
46 Tamo din koyo ga kaa zaaro kaŋ a mana tammahã din ra, da saaya kaŋ a si bay ra. A g'a barzu k'a gaahamo kulu bagu-bagu k'a baa ye borey kaŋ sinda naanay banda.
46the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful.
47 That servant, who knew his lord’s will, and didn’t prepare, nor do what he wanted, will be beaten with many stripes,
47 Tam kaŋ na nga koyo miila bay, amma a mana soola, a mana koyo miila te mo, kal i m'a barzu gumo.
47And that servant, who knew his lord's will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many [stripes];
48 but he who didn’t know, and did things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. To whomever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked.
48 Amma boro kaŋ mana bay, a te mo haŋ kaŋ to barzuyaŋ, i g'a barzu kayna. Boro kulu mo kaŋ se i na iboobo no, a do no i ga iboobo ceeci. Nga mo kaŋ i na iboobo daŋ a kambe ra, a do no i ga ceeci ka bisa.
48but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few [stripes]. And to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom they commit much, of him will they ask the more.
49 “I came to throw fire on the earth. I wish it were already kindled.
49 Ay kaa zama ay ma danji catu ndunnya boŋ. Doŋ day i ma jin k'a funsu!
49I came to cast fire upon the earth; and what do I desire, if it is already kindled?
50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
50 Ay gonda baptisma fo kaŋ i g'ay baptisma te d'a. Ay go kankami ra mo hal a ma timme.
50But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, no, but rather division.
51 Wala araŋ ga tammahã ay kaa zama ay ma baani daŋ ndunnya ra no? Ay ga ne araŋ se: manti yaadin no bo, kala day fayyaŋ.
51Think ye that I am come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52 For from now on, there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
52 Zama ne ka koy jina boro gu ga bara windi fo ra kaŋ yaŋ ga fay da care. Ihinza ga gaaba nda ihinka, ihinka mo ga gaaba nda ihinza.
52for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 They will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
53 I ga fay da care: baaba ga gaaba nda nga ize aru, ize aro mo ga gaaba nda baabo. Nya ga gaaba nda ize way, ize wayo mo ga gaaba nda nyaŋo. Anzuray ga gaaba nda nga anzuray way, anzuray wayo mo ga gaaba nda nga anzuray.»
53They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law.
54 He said to the multitudes also, “When you see a cloud rising from the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it happens.
54 A ne borey marga se: «D'araŋ di beena hirri wayna funay haray, sahãadin no araŋ ga ne: ‹Hari go kaa,› yaadin mo no ga te.
54And he said to the multitudes also, When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it cometh to pass.
55 When a south wind blows, you say, ‘There will be a scorching heat,’ and it happens.
55 Da haw ga faaru ka fun dandi kambe haray mo, kal araŋ ma ne: ‹Fufule ga te,› yaadin mo no a ga bara.
55And when [ye see] a south wind blowing, ye say, There will be a scorching heat; and it cometh to pass.
56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you don’t interpret this time?
56 Araŋ wo munaficey! Araŋ ga hin ka ndunnya nda beena baaru fay-fay, amma zamana wo, ifo se no araŋ si hin k'a fasara?
56Ye hypocrites, ye know how to interpret the face of the earth and the heaven; but how is it that ye know not how to interpret this time?
57 Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?
57 Ifo se no araŋ bumbey, araŋ si ciiti nda wo kaŋ ga saba?
57And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
58 For when you are going with your adversary before the magistrate, try diligently on the way to be released from him, lest perhaps he drag you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
58 Zama za ni goono ga dira ni yanjekaaro banda ka koy alkaali do, fonda ra ni ma te dabari ka ni boŋ kaa. A ma si te hambara a ma konda nin alkaalo do, alkaalo mo ma ni no doogarey se, doogarey mo ma ni daŋ kaso ra.
58For as thou art going with thine adversary before the magistrate, on the way give diligence to be quit of him; lest haply he drag thee unto the judge, and the judge shall deliver thee to the officer, and the officer shall cast thee into prison.
59 I tell you, you will by no means get out of there, until you have paid the very last penny.
59 Ay ga ne ni se: ni si fatta noodin abada, kala nda ni na tanka kulu me bana.»
59I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the very last mite.
