1And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying,
2“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”
2 ka ne: «Araŋ ma tuubi, zama beene* koytara maan.
2Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.” Isaiah 40:3
3 Zama nga no ga ti boro kaŋ i n'a ciine te annabi Isaya me ra, kaŋ ne: ‹Boro fo kaŋ goono ga kuuwa ganjo ra jinda go ga ne: Wa Rabbi fonda soola, w'a fondayzey sasabandi.› »
3For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
4Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
4 Yohanna bumbo, a bankaara yo hamni no i n'a kay d'a. A goono ga guddu nda kuuru nga canta gaa. A ŋwaaro mo ga ti do-ize da ganjo ra yu.
4Now John himself had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
5Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
5 Alwaato din no Urusalima borey da Yahudiya laabo borey kulu da borey kulu kaŋ go Urdun* windanta fatta ka kaa a do.
5Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about the Jordan;

6 I goono ga ngey zunubey ci. A te i se baptisma* Urdun isa ra mo.
6and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, or, immersion he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
7 Amma waato kaŋ a di Farisi* fonda borey da Sadusi* fonda borey iboobo goono ga kaa naŋ kaŋ a goono ga baptisma te, kala Yohanna ne i se: «Araŋ wo gazama izey! May no k'araŋ kaseeti ka ne araŋ ma zuru bona kaŋ goono ga kaa se?
7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance!
8 Araŋ ma te-goy cabe kaŋ ga saba nda tuubiyaŋ.
8Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
9Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
9and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10“Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
10 Baa sohõ i na deesi dake tuurey tiksey gaa. Yaadin gaa, tuuri kulu kaŋ siino ga ize hanno hay, i g'a wi k'a catu danji ra.
10And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11I indeed baptize or, immerse you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. TR and NU add “and with fire”
11 Ay wo, hari no ay goono ga baptisma te d'a araŋ se, tuubiyaŋ sabbay se. Amma bora kaŋ ga kaa ay banda din, a ga bisa ay dabari. Ay mana to naŋ kaŋ ay ga ce daŋ a ce ra. Nga no ga baptisma te araŋ se da Biya Hanno da danji mo.
11I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire:
12His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
12 A fando go a kambe ra. A ga nga karayaŋ nango hanandi hal a ma boori, ka nga alkama margu ka daŋ barma ra, amma a ga duwo ton da danji kaŋ i si hin ka wi.»
12whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
13 Alwaato din Yesu tun Galili ka koy Urdun Yohanna do, zama nga ma du baptisma a do.
13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”
14 Amma Yohanna ga ba nga ma wangu a se. A ne: «Ay no ga hima ay ma du baptisma ni do, ni mo go ga kaa ay do, wala?»
14But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.
15 Amma Yesu tu ka ne a se: «Ni m'a ta sohõ. Zama yaadin no a ga hima iri se iri ma adilitaray kulu toonandi nd'a.» Alwaato din gaa no Yohanna yadda.
15But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.
16Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
16 Yesu mo, waato kaŋ i na baptisma te a se, a fatta nda waasi haro ra. Guna mo, beena feeri, a di Irikoy Biya mo go ga zumbu sanda koloŋay cine, a goono ga kaa nga boŋ.
16And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
17Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
17 Jinde fo mo fun beena ra ka ne: «Boro woone ga ti ay Izo kaŋ ay ga ba, nga kaŋ ay ga maa a kaani gumo.»
17and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
