Obadiah

1

1The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Lord Yahweh says about Edom. We have heard news from Yahweh, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let’s rise up against her in battle.
1 Obadiya bangando neeya: Rabbi, Koy Beero sanno neeya Edom boŋ: Iri du baaru Rabbi do, I na diya donton dumi cindey game ra a ma ne: «Kaa, iri ma tun ka koy ka kay a se da wongu.»
1The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah concerning Edom: We have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, [saying], Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
2Behold, I have made you small among the nations. You are greatly despised.
2 «Guna, ay ga ni ciya ikayna fo dumi cindey game ra, I ga donda nin gumo.
2Behold, I have made thee small among the nations: thou art greatly despised.
3The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’
3 Ni bina boŋbeera no ka ni fafagu, Ya nin kaŋ goono ga goro tondey kortimey ra, Nin kaŋ ni nangora go hala beene tondey boŋ, Nin kaŋ goono ga ne ni bina ra: ‹May no g'ay zumandi?›
3The pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says Yahweh.
4 Baa day ni ga ziji beene sanda zeeban cine, Baa ni fito go handariyayzey game ra ga sinji, Baa noodin kal ay ma ye ka ni zumandi ganda.» Yaadin no Rabbi ci.
4Though thou mount on high as the eagle, and though thy nest be set among the stars, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah.
5“If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—oh, what disaster awaits you—wouldn’t they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn’t they leave some gleaning grapes?
5 «Doŋ d'i ne zayyaŋ wala cin ra komkoyaŋ no ka kaa ni do, (kaari nin, ni halaci!) Manti haŋ kaŋ ga wasa i se no i ga zay? Da reyzin* kosukoyaŋ kaa ni do, Manti i ga fay da reyzin izeyaŋ kaŋ borey ga koobu?
5If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night (how art thou cut off!), would they not steal [only] till they had enough? if grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?
6How Esau will be ransacked! How his hidden treasures are sought out!
6 Guna ka di fintalyaŋ kaŋ cine i ga te Isuwa se! Guna ka di mate kaŋ cine i g'a arzaka tugantey ceeci nd'a!
6How are [the things of] Esau searched! how are his hidden treasures sought out!
7All the men of your alliance have brought you on your way, even to the border. The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you. Friends who eat your bread lay a snare under you. There is no understanding in him.”
7 Ni amaana borey kulu ga ni gaaray ka koy hala hirro boŋ. Borey kaŋ yaŋ nin d'ey goono ga baani goray te, I ga ni fafagu, i ga te zaama ni boŋ mo. Ni ŋwaari ŋwaakoy, Ngey no goono ga hirrimiyaŋ daŋ ni cire, Ni mana bay a gaa mo.
7All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee on thy way, even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; [they that eat] thy bread lay a snare under thee: there is no understanding in him.
8“Won’t I in that day,” says Yahweh, “destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau?
8 Manti zaari woodin ra no ay ga laakalkooney halaci Edom ra, Da fahamantey mo Isuwa tondi kuuko ra?» Yaadin no Rabbi ci.
8Shall I not in that day, saith Jehovah, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
9Your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, to the end that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.
9 «Ya Teman, ni yaarukomey ga gartu, Hal i ma afo kulu tuusu ka kaa Isuwa tondi kuuko ra da wiyaŋ.
9And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter.
10For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.
10 Ni nya-izo Yakuba toonya kaŋ ni te a se din sabbay se, Haawi ga ni daabu, i ga ni halaci mo hal abada.
10For the violence done to thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them.
11 Zaaro din kaŋ ni kay fayante kuray fo waani, Zaaro din kaŋ yawey n'a arzaka ku, Yawey furo a birni meyey ra mo, I na kurne catu Urusalima boŋ, Ni mo ciya sanda i boro fo cine.
11In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.
12But don’t look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and don’t rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction. Don’t speak proudly in the day of distress.
12 Ni si hima ka bina kaani te ni nya-izo boŋ a jirbey ra, Danga a masiibey zaarey ra nooya. Wala ni ma farhã Yahuda izey boŋ i halaciyaŋo zaaro ra, Wala mo ni ma fooma sanni te i kankami zaaro ra.
12But look not thou on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster, and rejoice not over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither speak proudly in the day of distress.
13Don’t enter into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity. Don’t look down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither seize their wealth on the day of their calamity.
13 Ma si furo ay borey birni meyey ra i balaaw zaaro hane. Oho, ma si i masiiba gomdo i balaaw zaaro ra, Ma si ni kambe dake mo i arzakey gaa i balaaw zaaro ra.
13Enter not into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, look not thou on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither lay ye [hands] on their substance in the day of their calamity.
14Don’t stand in the crossroads to cut off those of his who escape. Don’t deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress.
14 Ma si kay mo fondo fayyaŋ boŋ hala ni m'a wane fooyaŋ kaŋ goono ga yana kosaray. Borey kaŋ yaŋ cindi mo, Ni ma si i nooyandi gurzugay zaari ra.
14And stand thou not in the crossway, to cut off those of his that escape; and deliver not up those of his that remain in the day of distress.
15For the day of Yahweh is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.
15 Zama Rabbi zaaro maan, kaŋ ga kaa dumey cindey gaa. Sanda mate kaŋ cine ni te, Yaadin cine no i ga te ni mo se. Ni te-goyey ga ye ka kaŋ ni boŋ.
15For the day of Jehovah is near upon all the nations: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy dealing shall return upon thine own head.
16For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.
16 Zama sanda mate kaŋ cine araŋ haŋ ay tondi hananta boŋ, Yaadin cine no dumi cindey kulu ga haŋ, duumi. Oho, i ga haŋ, i ma gon, Edom ma ciya danga day a mana te ce fo.
16For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually; yea, they shall drink, and swallow down, and shall be as though they had not been.
17But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess their possessions.
17 Amma Sihiyona tondo ra i ga boro fooyaŋ gar kaŋ ga yana. A ga ciya hanante, Yakuba kunda mo ga nga mayray haro ŋwa.
17But in mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18The house of Jacob will be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble. They will burn among them, and devour them. There will not be any remaining to the house of Esau.” Indeed, Yahweh has spoken.
18 Saaya din ra Yakuba kunda ga ciya danji, Yusufu kunda mo ga ciya danji beele. Isuwa kunda mo ga hima sanda buunu cine, Kaŋ danji ga ŋwa i game ra, A m'i ŋwa ka ban. Boro kulu si cindi Isuwa kunda ra, Zama Rabbi no ka woodin ci.
18And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall burn among them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining to the house of Esau; for Jehovah hath spoken it.
19Those of the South will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead.
19 Negeb* borey binde ga Isuwa tondo mayray ŋwa, Safela* borey mo ma Filistancey ŋwa. I ga Ifraymu laabu toorimo ŋwa, da Samariya wano mo, Benyamin mo ga Jileyad mayra ŋwa.
19And they of the South shall possess the mount of Esau, and they of the lowland the Philistines; and they shall possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria; and Benjamin [shall possess] Gilead.
20The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev.
20 Israyla* izey marga kaŋ koy tamtaray ga Kanaanancey ŋwa hala Zarefat, Urusalima waney mo kaŋ koy tamtaray, Ngey kaŋ yaŋ go Sefarad ra, I ga Negeb birney ŋwa.
20And the captives of this host of the children of Israel, that are [among] the Canaanites, [shall possess] even unto Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, that are in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the South.
21Saviors will go up on Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom will be Yahweh’s.
21 Faabakoyaŋ ga kaaru Sihiyona tondo boŋ zama ngey ma Isuwa tondo ciiti. Mayra mo ga ye ka ciya Rabbi wane.
21And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be Jehovah's.
