1Or don’t you know, brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?
1 Wala araŋ mana bay no, nya-izey, kaŋ asariya ga boro dabari hala bora fundo me? Zama ay goono ga salaŋ borey kaŋ yaŋ ga asariya bay se.
1Or are ye ignorant, brethren (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth?
2For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.
2 Sanda wayboro kurnyekoy cine, asariya g'a haw kurnyo gaa waati kulu kaŋ kurnyo go baafuney ra. Amma d'a bu, waybora ga feeri asariya kaŋ n'a haw kurnyo gaa do.
2For the woman that hath a husband is bound by law to the husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is discharged from the law of the husband.
3So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.
3 Da waybora na alboro fo hiiji za kurnyo go baafuney ra, i ga ne a se zina-teeri. Amma da kurnyo bu, wando ga feeri asariya wo gaa, hala baa a na alboro fo hiiji, manti zina n'a te.
3So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.
4Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God.
4 Yaadin cine no, ay nya-izey, araŋ mo ciya buukoyaŋ asariya se Almasihu gaahamo do, zama araŋ ma funa boro fo se, nga din se kaŋ tun ka fun buukoy game ra, zama iri ma kande Irikoy se nafa.
4Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, [even] to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.
5For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.
5 Zama waato kaŋ iri go Adam-ize daa _zeena|_ ganayaŋ ra, zunubi ibaay laaley, kaŋ asariya tunandi, goono ga goy iri gaaham jarey ra ka nafa hari hay buuyaŋ se.
5For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.
6 Amma sohõ kaŋ Irikoy n'iri feeri asariya gaa, za kaŋ iri bu haya kaŋ n'iri gaay doŋ se, iri goono ga may Irikoy se fondo taji ra, Biya Hanno wano, manti fondo zeena boŋ _asariya tira|_ biir'izey _kaŋ go hantumante|_ wane.
6But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that wherein we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.
7What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21
7 Ifo no iri ga ne binde? Asariya wo zunubi no? Abada! Mate n'ay ga te ka bay zunubi gaa, da manti asariya? Sanda, da asariya mana ne: «Ni ma si bini», doŋ ay si bay biniyay gaa.
7What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:
8But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
8 Amma waato kaŋ zunubi du daama lordo do, a goy ay ra k'ay zukku biniyay kulu dumi ra. Zama nda asariya si no, zunubi ya buuko no.
8but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting: for apart from the law sin [is] dead.
9I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
9 Waato ay funa, kaŋ manti nda asariya. Amma waato kaŋ lordo* kaa, kala zunubi ye ka funa, ay mo bu.
9And I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died;
10The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death;
10 Lordo din mo, kaŋ Irikoy no fundi se, woodin ay kaa ka gar a kande buuyaŋ.
10and the commandment, which [was] unto life, this I found [to be] unto death:
11for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.
11 Zama waato kaŋ zunubi du daama lordo do, a n'ay halli. Lordo din do mo no zunubi n'ay wi.
11for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me.
12Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.
12 A go mo, asariya ya ihanno no, lordo mo ga hanan, adilitaraykoy no, a ga boori gumo.
12So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.
13Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.
13 Yaadin gaa binde, hari hanno ciya ay se buuyaŋ no? Abada! Amma zunubi, zama nga ma bangay kaŋ nga ya zunubi no, a na buuyaŋ goy te ay se hari hanno do, hala lordo ma bangandi kaŋ zunubi ya zunubi no gumo-gumo.
13Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; --that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.
14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
14 Zama iri bay kaŋ asariya* ya Biya Hanno wane no, amma ay wo bine ibaay laaley banda no ay go, neerante zunubi dabaro se.
14For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.
15 Zama haŋ kaŋ ay goono ga te, ay si ga faham d'a. Zama manti haŋ kaŋ ay ga ba no ay goono ga te bo, amma haŋ kaŋ ay ga konna, nga no ay goono ga te.
15For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.
16But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.
16 Amma, da haŋ kaŋ ay si ba, nga no ay goono ga te, yaadin gaa ay goono ga yadda kaŋ asariya ya ihanno no.
16But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
17 Sohõ manti ay no goono ga woodin te, amma day zunubo no kaŋ go ay ra da goray.
17So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.
18For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.
18 Zama ay bay kaŋ ay ra, sanda ay Adam-ize daa laala ra, hari hanno kulu sinda nangoray, zama ay gonda hari hanno miila, amma ay si hin k'a te.
18For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good [is] not.
19For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.
19 Zama ihanno kaŋ ay ga ba, ay siino g'a te, amma ilaala kaŋ ay si ba din, nga no ay goono ga te waati kulu.
19For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise.
20But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
20 Amma da haŋ kaŋ ay si ba no ay goono ga te, yaadin gaa manti ay bumbo no ga ti teekwa, amma day zunubo no kaŋ go ay ra da goray.
20But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.
21I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.
21 Ay binde bay asariya wo gaa: waati kaŋ ay ga ba ay ma ihanno te, ilaalo go noodin ay ra.
21I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.
22For I delight in God’s law after the inward man,
22 Zama ay ga maa Irikoy asariya kaani ay bina ra,
22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.
23 amma ay go ga di asariya waani fo ay gaaham jarey ra, kaŋ goono ga tangam da haŋ kaŋ ay laakalo ga yadda nd'a. A goono g'ay daŋ tamtaray ra zunubi asariya se, nga kaŋ go ay gaaham jarey ra.
23but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.
24What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?
24 Kaari ay mate kaŋ ay go! May no g'ay faaba gaahamo wo gaa, kaŋ ra buuyaŋ go ga goy?
24Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?
25I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, the sin’s law.
25 Wa saabuyaŋ te Irikoy se iri Rabbi Yesu Almasihu do! Yaadin no, ay bumbo laakalo ra, ay goono ga may Irikoy asariya se, amma ay Adam-ize daa laala ra ay go ga may zunubi asariya se.
25I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I of myself with the mind, indeed, serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
