1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,
1 Bonkoono Dariyus mayra jiiri hinkanta, handu ahakkanta ra no, Rabbi salaŋ annabi* Zakariya Bereciya izo, Iddo ize se ka ne:
1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,
2“Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.
2 Rabbi futu araŋ kaayey se gumo.
2Jehovah was sore displeased with your fathers.
3Therefore tell them: Thus says Yahweh of Armies: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.
3 Woodin sabbay se binde ni ma ne sohõ borey se: Haŋ kaŋ Rabbi Kundeykoyo ci neeya: Wa ye ka kaa ay do. Yaadin no Rabbi Kundeykoyo ci. Ay mo ga ye ka kaa araŋ do. Yaadin no Rabbi Kundeykoyo ci.
3Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Return unto me, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts.
4Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Thus says Yahweh of Armies, ‘Return now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings;’ but they did not hear, nor listen to me, says Yahweh.
4 Araŋ ma si ciya sanda araŋ kaayey cine bo, borey kaŋ yaŋ waato annabey fe ka ne i se: Ya-cine no Rabbi Kundeykoyo ci: Wa bare sohõ ka fay d'araŋ muraadu laaley, d'araŋ goy laaley. Amma i mana maa, i mana hanga jeeri ay se mo. Yaadin no Rabbi Kundeykoyo ci.
4Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith Jehovah.
5Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
5 Man no araŋ kaayey go? Annabey binde, i goono ga funa hal abada no, wala?
5Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
6But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”
6 Amma ay sanney d'ay hin sanney, kaŋ yaŋ ay n'ay tam annabey lordi nd'a, manti i n'araŋ kaayey gar bo? Ngey mo tuubi ka ne: Sanda mate kaŋ Rabbi Kundeykoyo miila nga ma te iri se, iri muraadey hina me d'iri goyey boŋ, yaadin cine mo no a te iri se.
6But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? and they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,
7 Dariyus jiiri hinkanta, handu way cindi fa ra, kaŋ ga ti Sebat hando, a jirbi waranka cindi taacanta hane Rabbi na bangandi te annabi Zakariya, Bereciya ize, Iddo ize se.
7Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,
8“I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.
8 Cin ra no ay guna, kal ay di boro fo go bari ciray fo boŋ, a kay mirtal* tuuri-nyaŋey game ra, saajo tuuri zugey ra. A banda mo bari ciray yaŋ go no, da guraw yaŋ, da ikwaaray yaŋ mo.
8I saw in the night, and, behold, a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horses, red, sorrel, and white.
9Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”
9 Gaa no ay ne: «Ya ay koyo, ifo no woone yaŋ wo?» Kala malayka* kaŋ goono ga salaŋ ay se din ne ay se: «Haŋ kaŋ yaŋ no kulu, ay g'i cabe ni se.»
9Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will show thee what these are.
10The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”
10 Kala bora kaŋ goono ga kay mirtal tuurey game ra din tu ka ne: «Woone yaŋ no ga ti ngey kaŋ yaŋ Rabbi donton i ma koy-da-ye te ndunnya ra.»
10And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
11They reported to the angel of Yahweh who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”
11 I tu Rabbi malayka kaŋ goono ga kay mirtal tuurey game ra se ka ne: «Iri na koy-da-ye te ndunnya ra. A go, ndunnya kulu go ga goro baani samay, laakal kanay ra.»
11And they answered the angel of Jehovah that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
12Then the angel of Yahweh replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”
12 Gaa no Rabbi malayka tu ka ne: «Ya Rabbi Kundeykoyo, waatifo no ni ga Urusalima* da Yahudiya* birney naŋ suuji si, kaŋ jiiri wayya din kulu ni goono ga futu i gaa?»
12Then the angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?
13Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.
13 Rabbi tu malayka kaŋ goono ga salaŋ ay se din se da gomni sanniyaŋ, kaŋ ga bine gaabandi.
13And Jehovah answered the angel that talked with me with good words, [even] comfortable words.
14So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
14So the angel that talked with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
15I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”
15 Ay ga futu gumo dumey kaŋ goono ga goro laakal kanay ra se, zama waato kaŋ ay futu kayna, ngey mo na taabandiyaŋ tonton.
15And I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
16Therefore thus says Yahweh: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.”’
16 Woodin sabbay se no Rabbi ne: Ay ga ye ka kaa Urusalima do ka kande suuji. I g'ay windo cina a ra, i ga deedandiyaŋ korfo mo candi ka salle Urusalima kulu ra _cinayaŋ se|_.
16Therefore thus saith Jehovah: I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies; my house shall be built in it, saith Jehovah of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.
17“Proclaim further, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”
17Cry yet again, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: My cities shall yet overflow with prosperity; and Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
18I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, four horns.
18 Kaŋ ay n'ay boŋo sambu, kal ay di hilli taaci.
18And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, four horns.
19I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
19 Ay ne malayka kaŋ in d'a go ga salaŋ din se: «Ifo misa no woone yaŋ?» A tu ka ne ay se: «Ngey no ga ti hilley kaŋ yaŋ na Yahuda nda Israyla* nda Urusalima say.»
19And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
20Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.
20 Rabbi na zam taaci cabe ay se mo.
20And Jehovah showed me four smiths.
21Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”
21 Kal ay ne: «Ifo teeyaŋ se no woone yaŋ wo kaa?» Kal a salaŋ ka ne: «Hilley din na Yahuda say, hala boro kulu si no kaŋ na nga boŋ tunandi. I na hilli tunandi zama ngey ma gaaba nda Yahuda laabo, zama ngey m'a say-say sabbay se mo. To. Zamey din kaa no zama ngey m'i humburandi se, ngey ma dumi cindey hilley mo zeeri.»
21Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head; but these are come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.
