¹It happened, when Yahweh would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

¹கர்த்தர் எலியாவைச் சுழல்காற்றிலே பரலோகத்திற்கு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப் போகிறபோது, எலியா எலிசாவோடேகூடக் கில்காலிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.

²Elijah said to Elisha, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel.” Elisha said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

²எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னைப் பெத்தேல்மட்டும் போக அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே இருவரும் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போனார்கள்.

³The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?” He said, “Yes, I know it; hold your peace.”

³அப்பொழுது பெத்தேலிலிருந்த தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: இன்றைக்குக் கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தலைமையாயிருக்கிற உன் எஜமானை உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்வார் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியுமா என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: எனக்குத் தெரியும், சும்மா இருங்கள் என்றான்.

⁴Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.

⁴பின்பு எலியா அவனை நோக்கி: எலிசாவே, நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னை எரிகோமட்டும் போக அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவர்கள் எரிகோவுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

⁵The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?” He answered, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”

⁵எரிகோவிலிருந்த தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவினிடத்தில் வந்து: இன்றைக்குக் கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தலைமையாயிருக்கிற உன் எஜமானை உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்வார் என்பது உனக்குத் தெரியுமா என்று அவனைக் கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: எனக்குத் தெரியும், சும்மா இருங்கள் என்றான்.

⁶Elijah said to him, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” They both went on.

⁶பின்பு எலியா அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இங்கே இரு; கர்த்தர் என்னை யோர்தானுக்கு அனுப்புகிறார் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உம்மை விடுகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனையும் உம்முடைய ஜீவனையும் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே இருவரும் போனார்கள்.

⁷Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood opposite them at a distance; and they both stood by the Jordan.

⁷தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரரில் ஐம்பதுபேர் போய், தூரத்திலே பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நின்றார்கள்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் யோர்தான் கரையிலே நின்றார்கள்.

⁸Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they two went over on dry ground.

⁸அப்பொழுது எலியா, தன் சால்வையை எடுத்து முறுக்கித் தண்ணீரை அடித்தான்; அது இருபக்கமாகப் பிரிந்தது; அவர்கள் இருவரும் உலர்ந்த தரைவழியாய் அக்கரைக்குப் போனார்கள்.

⁹It happened, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me.”

⁹அவர்கள் அக்கரைப்பட்டபின்பு, எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி: நான் உன்னைவிட்டு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுமுன்னே நான் உனக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன, கேள் என்றான். அதற்கு எலிசா: உம்மிடத்திலுள்ள ஆவியின்வரம் எனக்கு இரட்டிப்பாய்க் கிடைக்கும்படி வேண்டுகிறேன் என்றான்.

¹⁰He said, “You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”

¹⁰அதற்கு அவன்: அரிதான காரியத்தைக் கேட்டாய்; உன்னைவிட்டு நான் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுகையில் என்னை நீ கண்டால் உனக்குக் கிடைக்கும்; இல்லாவிட்டால் கிடையாது என்றான்.

¹¹It happened, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

¹¹அவர்கள் பேசிக்கொண்டு நடந்துபோகையில், இதோ, அக்கினிரதமும் அக்கினிக்குதிரைகளும் அவர்கள் நடுவாக வந்து இருவரையும் பிரித்தது; எலியா சுழல்காற்றிலே பரலோகத்திற்கு ஏறிப்போனான்.

¹²Elisha saw it, and he cried, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” He saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.

¹²அதை எலிசா கண்டு: என் தகப்பனே, என் தகப்பனே, இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு இரதமும் குதிரைவீரருமாய் இருந்தவரே என்று புலம்பினான்; அவனை அப்புறம் காணாமல், தன் வஸ்திரத்தைப் பிடித்து இரண்டு துண்டாகக் கிழித்தான்.

¹³He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

¹³பின்பு அவன் எலியாவின்மேலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்த சால்வையை எடுத்துத் திரும்பிப்போய், யோர்தானின் கரையிலே நின்று,

¹⁴He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, “Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?” When he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha went over.

¹⁴எலியாவின்மேலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்த சால்வையைப் பிடித்து: எலியாவின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்கே என்று சொல்லித் தண்ணீரை அடித்தான்; தண்ணீரை அடித்தவுடனே அது இருபக்கமாகப் பிரிந்ததினால் எலிசா இக்கரைப்பட்டான்.

¹⁵When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

¹⁵எரிகோவில் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு நின்ற தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் அவனைக் கண்டவுடனே, எலியாவின் ஆவி எலிசாவின்மேல் இறங்கியிருக்கிறது என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோய்த் தரைமட்டும் குனிந்து அவனை வணங்கி:

¹⁶They said to him, “See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps the Spirit of Yahweh has taken him up, and put him on some mountain, or into some valley. He said, “You shall not send them.”

¹⁶இதோ, உமது அடியாரோடே ஐம்பது பலவான்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் போய் உம்முடைய எஜமானைத் தேடும்படி உத்தரவு கொடும்; ஒருவேளை கர்த்தருடைய ஆவியானவர் அவரை எடுத்து, பர்வதங்களில் ஒன்றின் மேலாகிலும் பள்ளத்தாக்குகளில் ஒன்றிலாகிலும் கொண்டுபோய் வைத்திருப்பார் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: அவர்களை அனுப்பவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

¹⁷When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, “Send them.” They sent therefore fifty men; and they searched for three days, but didn’t find him.

¹⁷அவன் சலித்துப்போகுமட்டும் அவர்கள் அவனை அலட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தபடியால் அனுப்புங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே ஐம்பதுபேரை அனுப்பினார்கள்; அவர்கள் மூன்று நாள் அவனைத் தேடியும் காணாமல்,

¹⁸They came back to him, while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go?’”

¹⁸எரிகோவிலிருந்த அவனிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, அவன் இவர்களைப் பார்த்து: போகவேண்டாம் என்று நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லவில்லையா என்றான்.

¹⁹The men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarries.”

¹⁹பின்பு அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் மனுஷர் எலிசாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, எங்கள் ஆண்டவன் காண்கிறபடி இந்தப் பட்டணம் குடியிருப்புக்கு நல்லது; தண்ணீரோ கெட்டது, நிலமும் பாழ்நிலம் என்றார்கள்.

²⁰He said, “Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.” They brought it to him.

²⁰அப்பொழுது அவன்: ஒரு புதுத்தோண்டியை எடுத்து, அதிலே உப்புப் போட்டுக் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றான்; அதை அவனிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தபோது,

²¹He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying.’”

²¹அவன் நீரூற்றண்டைக்குப் போய், உப்பை அதிலே போட்டு: இந்தத் தண்ணீரை ஆரோக்கியமாக்கினேன்; இனி இதினால் சாவும் வராது, நிலப்பாழும் இராது என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

²²So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

²²எலிசா சொன்ன வார்த்தையின்படியே அந்தத் தண்ணீர் இந்நாள் வரைக்கும் இருக்கிறபடி ஆரோக்கியமாயிற்று.

²³He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldhead!”

²³அவன் அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டுப் பெத்தேலுக்குப் போனான்; அவன் வழிநடந்துபோகையில் பிள்ளைகள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து வந்து, அவனைப் பார்த்து: மொட்டைத்தலையா ஏறிப்போ என்று சொல்லி நிந்தித்தார்கள்.

²⁴He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of Yahweh. Two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.

²⁴அப்பொழுது அவன் திரும்பி அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தரின் நாமத்திலே அவர்களைச் சபித்தான்; உடனே காட்டிலிருந்து இரண்டு கரடிகள் புறப்பட்டு வந்து, அவர்களில் நாற்பத்திரண்டு பிள்ளைகளைப் பீறிப்போட்டது.

²⁵He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

²⁵அவன் அவ்விடத்தைவிட்டுக் கர்மேல் பர்வதத்திற்குப்போய், அங்கேயிருந்து சமாரியாவுக்குத் திரும்பினான்.
