¹“Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them.

¹மேலும், நீ அவர்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கவேண்டிய பிரமாணங்களாவன:

²“If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years and in the seventh he shall go out free without paying anything.

²எபிரெயரில் ஒரு அடிமையைக் கொண்டாயானால், அவன் ஆறுவருஷம் சேவித்து, ஏழாம் வருஷத்திலே ஒன்றும் கொடாமல் விடுதலைப்பெற்றுப் போகக்கடவன்.

³If he comes in by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife shall go out with him.

³ஒன்றிக்காரனாய் வந்திருந்தானானால், ஒன்றிக்காரனாய்ப் போகக்கடவன்; விவாகம்பண்ணினவனாய் வந்திருந்தானானால், அவன் பெண்ஜாதி அவனோடேகூடப் போகக்கடவள்.

⁴If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself.

⁴அவன் எஜமான் அவனுக்கு ஒரு பெண்ணை விவாகஞ்செய்துகொடுத்தும், அவள் அவனுக்கு ஆண்பிள்ளைகளையாவது பெண்பிள்ளைகளையாவது பெற்றும் இருந்தால், அந்தப் பெண்ணும் அவள் பிள்ளைகளும் அவள் எஜமானைச் சேரக்கடவர்கள்; அவன் மாத்திரம் ஒன்றியாய்ப் போகக்கடவன்.

⁵But if the servant shall plainly say, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I will not go out free;’

⁵அந்த வேலைக்காரன்: என் எஜமானையும் என் பெண்ஜாதியையும் என் பிள்ளைகளையும் நேசிக்கிறேன்; நான் விடுதலை பெற்றுப்போக மனதில்லை என்று மனப்பூர்வமாய்ச் சொல்வானானால்,

⁶then his master shall bring him to God, and shall bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him for ever.

⁶அவன் எஜமான் அவனை நியாயாதிபதிகளிடத்தில் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அவனைக் கதவின் அருகேயாவது கதவுநிலையின் அருகேயாவது சேரப்பண்ணி, அங்கே அவன் எஜமான் அவன் காதைக் கம்பியினால் குத்தக்கடவன்; பின்பு அவன் என்றைக்கும் அவனிடத்திலே சேவித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கக்கடவன்.

⁷“If a man sells his daughter to be a female servant, she shall not go out as the male servants do.

⁷ஒருவன் தன் மகளை வேலைக்காரியாக விற்றுப்போட்டானானால், வேலைக்காரன் விடுதலைபெற்றுப் போவதுபோல அவள் போகக்கூடாது.

⁸If she doesn’t please her master, who has married her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her.

⁸அவளைத் தனக்கு நியமித்துக்கொண்ட எஜமானின் பார்வைக்கு அவள் தகாதவளாய்ப் போனால், அவள் மீட்கப்படலாம்; அவன் அவளுக்குத் துரோகம்பண்ணி, அவளை அந்நியர் கையில் விற்றுப்போட அவனுக்கு அதிகாரம் இல்லை.

⁹If he marries her to his son, he shall deal with her as a daughter.

⁹அவன் தன் குமாரனுக்கு அவளை நியமித்திருந்தானானால், தன் குமாரத்திகளை நடத்துவதுபோல அவளையும் நடத்தக்கடவன்.

¹⁰If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marital rights.

¹⁰அவன் வேறொரு பெண்ணைக் கொண்டானாகில், இவளுக்குரிய அன்னவஸ்திர விவாகக்கடமை ஆகிய இவைகளில் குறைவுசெய்யாமல் இருப்பானாக.

¹¹If he doesn’t do these three things for her, she may go free without paying any money.

¹¹இம்மூன்றும் அவன் அவளுக்குச் செய்யாமற்போனால், அவள் பணங்கொடாமல் விடுதலைபெற்றுப்போகக்கடவள்.

¹²“One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death,

¹²ஒரு மனிதனைச் சாகும்படி அடித்தவன், நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலைசெய்யப்படக்கடவன்.

¹³but not if it is unintentional, but God allows it to happen: then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee.

¹³ஒருவன் பதிவிருந்து கொல்லாமல், தேவச்செயலாய்த் தன் கைக்கு நேரிட்டவனைக் கொன்றால், அவன் ஓடிப்போய்ச் சேரவேண்டிய ஸ்தலத்தை உனக்கு நியமிப்பேன்.

¹⁴If a man schemes and comes presumptuously on his neighbor to kill him, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die.

¹⁴ஒருவன் பிறனுக்கு விரோதமாகச் சதிமோசஞ்செய்து, அவனைத் துணிகரமாய்க் கொன்றுபோட்டால், அவனை என்பலிபீடத்திலிருந்தும் பிடித்துக்கொண்டுபோய்க் கொலைசெய்யவேண்டும்.

¹⁵“Anyone who attacks his father or his mother shall be surely put to death.

¹⁵தன் தகப்பனையாவது தன் தாயையாவது அடிக்கிறவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலைசெய்யப்படக்கடவன்.

¹⁶“Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

¹⁶ஒருவன் ஒரு மனிதனைத் திருடி விற்றுப்போட்டாலும், இவன் அவன் வசத்திலிருக்கக் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டாலும், அவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலைசெய்யப்படக்கடவன்.

¹⁷“Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

¹⁷தன் தகப்பனையாவது தன் தாயையாவது சபிக்கிறவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலைசெய்யப்படக்கடவன்.

¹⁸“If men quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he doesn’t die, but is confined to bed;

¹⁸மனிதர் சண்டைபண்ணி, ஒருவன் மற்றொருவனைக் கல்லால் எறிந்ததினாலாவது கையால் அடித்ததினாலாவது அவன் சாவாமல் கட்டில் கிடையாய்க்கிடந்து,

¹⁹if he rises again and walks around with his staff, then he who struck him shall be cleared: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall provide for his healing until he is thoroughly healed.

¹⁹திரும்ப எழுந்திருந்து வெளியிலே தன் ஊன்றுகோலைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு நடமாடினால், அடித்தவன் ஆக்கினைக்கு நீங்கலாயிருப்பான்; ஆனாலும் அவனுக்கு வேலை மினக்கெட்ட நஷ்டத்தைக் கொடுத்து, அவனை நன்றாய்க் குணமாக்குவிக்கக்கடவன்.

²⁰“If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.

²⁰ஒருவன் தனக்கு அடிமையானவனையாவது தனக்கு அடிமையானவளையாவது, கோலால் அடித்ததினாலே, அவன் கையால் இறந்துபோனால், பழிக்குப்பழி வாங்கப்படவேண்டும்.

²¹Notwithstanding, if he gets up after a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his property.

²¹ஒரு நாளாவது இரண்டு நாளாவது உயிரோடிருந்தால், அவர்கள் அவனுடைய உடைமையாகையால், பழிவாங்கவேண்டியதில்லை.

²²“If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, and yet no harm follows, he shall be surely fined as much as the woman’s husband demands and the judges allow.

²²மனிதர் சண்டைபண்ணி, கர்ப்பவதியான ஒரு ஸ்திரீயை அடித்ததினால், அவளுக்கு வேறே சேதமில்லாமல் கர்ப்பம் விழுந்துபோனால், அடிபட்ட ஸ்திரீயின் புருஷன் அடித்தவன்மேல் சுமத்துகிறதற்குத்தக்கதாயும் நியாயாதிபதிகள் செய்யும் தீர்ப்பின்படியும் தண்டம் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

²³But if any harm follows, then you must take life for life,

²³வேறே சேதமுண்டானால், ஜீவனுக்கு ஜீவன்,

²⁴eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

²⁴கண்ணுக்குக் கண், பல்லுக்குப் பல், கைக்குக் கை, காலுக்குக் கால்,

²⁵burning for burning, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise.

²⁵சூட்டுக்குச் சூடு, காயத்துக்குக் காயம், தழும்புக்குத் தழும்பு பழி கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

²⁶“If a man strikes his servant’s eye, or his maid’s eye, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake.

²⁶ஒருவன் தன் அடிமையானவன் கண்ணையாகிலும் தன் அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் கண்ணையாகிலும் அடித்ததினால் அதைக் கெடுத்தால், அவன் கண்ணுக்குப் பதிலாக அவனை விடுதலை பண்ணிவிடவேண்டும்.

²⁷If he strikes out his male servant’s tooth, or his female servant’s tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.

²⁷அவன் தன் அடிமையானவன் பல்லையாவது தன் அடிமைப்பெண்ணின் பல்லையாவது உதிர அடித்தால், அவன் பல்லுக்குப்பதிலாக அவனை விடுதலைபண்ணிவிடவேண்டும்.

²⁸“If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the bull shall not be held responsible.

²⁸ஒரு மாடு ஒரு புருஷனையாவது ஒரு ஸ்திரீயையாவது முட்டினதினால் சாவுண்டானால், அந்த மாடு கல்லெறியப்படவேண்டும், அதின் மாம்சம் புசிக்கப்படலாகாது; அப்பொழுது மாட்டின் எஜமான் ஆக்கினைக்கு நீங்கலாயிருப்பான்.

²⁹But if the bull had a habit of goring in the past, and it has been testified to its owner, and he has not kept it in, but it has killed a man or a woman, the bull shall be stoned, and its owner shall also be put to death.

²⁹தன் மாடு வழக்கமாய் முட்டுகிற மாடாயிருந்து, அது அதின் எஜமானுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டும், அவன் அதைக் கட்டிவைக்காததினால், அது ஒரு புருஷனையாவது ஒரு ஸ்திரீயையாவது கொன்று போட்டால், மாடும் கல்லெறியப்படவேண்டும், அதின் எஜமானும் கொலை செய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

³⁰If a ransom is laid on him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is laid on him.

³⁰அபராதம் கொடுக்கும்படி தீர்க்கப்பட்டதானால், அவன் தன் ஜீவனை மீட்கும் பொருளாக விதிக்கப்பட்ட அபராதத்தைக் கொடுக்கக்கடவன்.

³¹Whether it has gored a son or has gored a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him.

³¹அது ஒருவன் மகனை முட்டினாலும் சரி, ஒருவன் மகளை முட்டினாலும் சரி, இந்தத் தீர்ப்பின்படியே அவனுக்குச் செய்யப்படவேண்டும்.

³²If the bull gores a male servant or a female servant, thirty shekels of silver shall be given to their master, and the ox shall be stoned.

³²அந்த மாடு ஒரு அடிமையானவனையாவது ஒரு அடிமைப்பெண்ணையாவது முட்டினால், அதற்கு உடையவன் அவர்களுடைய எஜமானுக்கு முப்பது சேக்கல் நிறையான வெள்ளியைக் கொடுக்கக்கடவன்; மாடு கல்லெறியப்படவேண்டும்.

³³“If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and doesn’t cover it, and a bull or a donkey falls into it,

³³ஒருவன் ஒரு குழியைத் திறந்து வைத்ததினாலாவது, ஒரு குழியை வெட்டி அதை மூடாதேபோனதினாலாவது, அதிலே ஒரு மாடாவது ஒரு கழுதையாவது விழுந்தால்,

³⁴the owner of the pit shall make it good. He shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall be his.

³⁴குழிக்கு உடையவன் அதற்கு ஈடாகப் பணத்தை மிருகத்தின் எஜமானுக்குக் கொடுக்கக்கடவன்; செத்ததோ அவனுடையதாகவேண்டும்.

³⁵“If one man’s bull injures another’s, so that it dies, then they shall sell the live bull, and divide its price; and they shall also divide the dead animal.

³⁵ஒருவனுடைய மாடு மற்றவனுடைய மாட்டை முட்டினதினால் அது செத்தால், உயிரோடிருக்கிற மாட்டை அவர்கள் விற்று, அதின் கிரயத்தைப் பங்கிட்டு, செத்ததையும் பங்கிட்டுக்கொள்ளக்கடவர்கள்.

³⁶Or if it is known that the bull was in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he shall surely pay bull for bull, and the dead animal shall be his own.

³⁶அந்த மாடு முன்னமே முட்டுகிற மாடென்று அதின் எஜமான் அறிந்திருந்தும், அதைக் கட்டிவைக்காதிருந்தால், அவன் மாட்டுக்கு மாட்டைக் கொடுக்கக்கடவன்; செத்ததோ அவனுடையதாக வேண்டும்.
