¹“Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?

¹பூமியிலே போராட மனுஷனுக்குக் குறிக்கப்பட்ட காலம் உண்டல்லவோ? அவன் நாட்கள் ஒரு கூலிக்காரன் நாட்களைப்போல் இருக்கிறதல்லவோ?

²As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages,

²ஒரு வேலையாள் நிழலை வாஞ்சித்து, ஒரு கூலிக்காரன் தன் கூலியை வரப்பார்த்திருக்கிறதுபோல,

³so am I made to possess months of misery, wearisome nights are appointed to me.

³மாயையான மாதங்கள் என்னுடைய சுதந்தரமாகி, சஞ்சலமான இராத்திரிகள் எனக்குக் குறிக்கப்பட்டது.

⁴When I lie down, I say, ‘When shall I arise, and the night be gone?’ I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.

⁴நான் படுத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறபோது, எப்பொழுது எழுந்திருப்பேன்? இராக்காலம் எப்பொழுது முடியும் என்று சொல்லி, கிழக்கு வெளுக்குமட்டும் அரண்டு புரளுகிறதினால் எனக்குப் போதுமென்றுபோகிறது.

⁵My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust. My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.

⁵என் மாம்சம் பூச்சிகளினாலும், அடைபற்றின புழுதியினாலும் மூடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது; என் தோல் வெடித்து அருவருப்பாயிற்று.

⁶My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

⁶என் நாட்கள் நெய்கிறவன் எறிகிற நாடாவிலும் தீவிரமாய் ஓடுகிறது; அவைகள் நம்பிக்கையில்லாமல் முடிந்துபோகும்.

⁷Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye shall no more see good.

⁷என் பிராணன் காற்றைப்போலிருக்கிறதென்றும், என் கண்கள் இனி நன்மையைக் காணப்போகிறதில்லையென்றும் நினைத்தருளும்.

⁸The eye of him who sees me shall see me no more. Your eyes shall be on me, but I shall not be.

⁸இப்போது என்னைக் காண்கிறவர்களின் கண்கள் இனி என்னைக் காண்பதில்லை; உம்முடைய கண்கள் என்மேல் நோக்கமாயிருக்கிறது; நானோ இல்லாமற்போகிறேன்.

⁹As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. shall come up no more.

⁹மேகம் பறந்துபோகிறதுபோல, பாதாளத்தில் இறங்குகிறவன் இனி ஏறிவரான்.

¹⁰He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁰இனி தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பான், அவன் ஸ்தலம் இனி அவனை அறியாது.

¹¹“Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹¹ஆகையால் நான் என் வாயை அடக்காமல், என் ஆவியின் வேதனையினால் பேசி, என் ஆத்துமத்தின் கசப்பினால் அங்கலாய்ப்பேன்.

¹²Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me?

¹²தேவரீர் என்மேல் காவல் வைக்கிறதற்கு நான் சமுத்திரமோ? நான் ஒரு திமிங்கிலமோ?

¹³When I say, ‘My bed shall comfort me. My couch shall ease my complaint;’

¹³என் கட்டில் எனக்கு ஆறுதல் கொடுக்கும் என்றும், என் படுக்கை என் தவிப்பை ஆற்றும் என்றும் நான் சொல்வேனாகில்,

¹⁴then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions:

¹⁴நீர் சொப்பனங்களால் என்னைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணி, தரிசனங்களால் எனக்குத் திகிலுண்டாக்குகிறீர்.

¹⁵so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.

¹⁵அதினால் என் ஆத்துமா, நெருக்குண்டு சாகிறதையும், என் எலும்புகளோடே உயிரோடிருக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், மரணத்தையும் விரும்புகிறது.

¹⁶I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

¹⁶இப்படியிருக்கிறதை அரோசிக்கிறேன்; எந்நாளும் உயிரோடிருக்க விரும்பேன், என்னை விட்டுவிடும்; என் நாட்கள் மாயைதானே.

¹⁷What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him,

¹⁷மனுஷனை நீர் ஒரு பொருட்டாக எண்ணுகிறதற்கும், அவன்மேல் சிந்தை வைக்கிறதற்கும்,

¹⁸that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?

¹⁸காலைதோறும் அவனை விசாரிக்கிறதற்கும், நிமிஷந்தோறும் அவனைச் சோதிக்கிறதற்கும், அவன் எம்மாத்திரம்?

¹⁹How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?

¹⁹நான் என் உமிழ்நீரை விழுங்காதபடி எத்தனைகாலம் என்னை நெகிழாமலும், என்னை விடாமலும் இருப்பீர்.

²⁰If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?

²⁰மன்னுயிரைக்காப்பவரே, பாவஞ்செய்தேனானால் உமக்கு நான் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன? நான் எனக்குத்தானே பாரமாயிருக்கும்படிக்கு, நீர் என்னை உமக்கு இலக்காக வைத்தது என்ன?

²¹Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now shall I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I shall not be.”

²¹என் மீறுதலை நீர் மன்னியாமலும், என் அக்கிரமத்தை நீக்காமலும் இருக்கிறது என்ன? இப்பொழுதே மண்ணில் படுத்துக்கொள்வேன்; விடியற்காலத்திலே என்னைத் தேடுவீரானால் நான் இரேன் என்றான்.
