²When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.

²அகந்தை வந்தால் இலச்சையும் வரும்; தாழ்ந்த சிந்தையுள்ளவர்களிடத்தில் ஞானம் உண்டு.

³The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them.

³செம்மையானவர்களுடைய உத்தமம் அவர்களை நடத்தும்; துரோகிகளின் மாறுபாடோ அவர்களைப் பாழாக்கும்.

⁴Riches don’t profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

⁴கோபாக்கினை நாளில் ஐசுவரியம் உதவாது; நீதியோ மரணத்துக்குத் தப்புவிக்கும்.

⁵The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

⁵உத்தமனுடைய நீதி அவன் வழியைச் செம்மைப்படுத்தும்; துன்மார்க்கனோ தன் துன்மார்க்கத்தினால் விழுவான்.

⁶The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but the unfaithful will be trapped by evil desires.

⁶செம்மையானவர்களுடைய நீதி அவர்களைத் தப்புவிக்கும்; துரோகிகளோ தங்கள் தீவினையிலே பிடிபடுவார்கள்.

⁷When a wicked man dies, hope perishes, and expectation of power comes to nothing.

⁷துன்மார்க்கன் மரிக்கும்போது அவன் நம்பிக்கை அழியும்; அக்கிரமக்காரரின் அபேட்சை கெட்டுப்போகும்.

⁸A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.

⁸நீதிமான் இக்கட்டினின்று விடுவிக்கப்படுவான்; அவன் இருந்த இடத்திலே துன்மார்க்கன் வருவான்.

⁹With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but the righteous will be delivered through knowledge.

⁹மாயக்காரன் தனக்கு அடுத்தவனை வாயினால் கெடுக்கிறான்; நீதிமானோ அறிவினால் தப்புகிறான்.

¹⁰When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices. When the wicked perish, there is shouting.

¹⁰நீதிமான்கள் நன்றாயிருந்தால் பட்டணம் களிகூரும்; துன்மார்க்கர் அழிந்தால் கெம்பீரம் உண்டாகும்.

¹¹By the blessing of the upright, the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

¹¹செம்மையானவர்களுடைய ஆசீர்வாதத்தினால் பட்டணம் நிலைபெற்றோங்கும்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வாயினால் அது இடிந்துவிழும்.

¹²One who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding holds his peace.

¹²மதிகெட்டவன் பிறனை அவமதிக்கிறான்; புத்திமானோ தன் வாயை அடக்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான்.

¹³One who brings gossip betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret.

¹³புறங்கூறித் திரிகிறவன் இரகசியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறான்; ஆவியில் உண்மையுள்ளவனோ காரியத்தை அடக்குகிறான்.

¹⁴Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.

¹⁴ஆலோசனையில்லாத இடத்தில் ஜனங்கள் விழுந்துபோவார்கள்; அநேக ஆலோசனைக்காரர் உண்டானால் சுகம் உண்டாகும்.

¹⁵He who is collateral for a stranger will suffer for it, but he who refuses pledges of collateral is secure.

¹⁵அந்நியனுக்காகப் பிணைப்படுகிறவன் வெகு பாடுபடுவான்; பிணைப்படுவதை வெறுப்பவன் சுகமாயிருப்பான்.

¹⁶A gracious woman obtains honor, but violent men obtain riches.

¹⁶நல்லொழுக்கமுள்ள ஸ்திரீ மானத்தைக் காப்பாள்; பராக்கிரமசாலிகள் ஐசுவரியத்தைக் காப்பார்கள்.

¹⁷The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.

¹⁷தயையுள்ள மனுஷன் தன் ஆத்துமாவுக்கு நன்மை செய்துகொள்ளுகிறான்; கடூரனோ தன் உடலை அலைக்கழிக்கிறான்.

¹⁸Wicked people earn deceitful wages, but one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.

¹⁸துன்மார்க்கன் விருதாவேலையைச் செய்கிறான்; நீதியை விதைக்கிறவனோ மெய்ப்பலனைப் பெறுவான்.

¹⁹He who is truly righteous gets life. He who pursues evil gets death.

¹⁹நீதி ஜீவனுக்கு ஏதுவாகிறதுபோல், தீமையைப் பின்தொடருகிறவன் மரணத்துக்கு ஏதுவாகிறான்.

²²மதிகேடாய் நடக்கிற அழகுள்ள ஸ்திரீ, பன்றியின் மூக்கிலுள்ள பொன் மூக்குத்திக்குச் சமானம்.

²³The desire of the righteous is only good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath.

²³நீதிமான்களுடைய ஆசை நன்மையே; துன்மார்க்கருடைய நம்பிக்கையோ கோபாக்கினையாய் முடியும்.

²⁴There is one who scatters, and increases yet more. There is one who withholds more than is appropriate, but gains poverty.

²⁴வாரியிறைத்தும் விருத்தியடைவாரும் உண்டு; அதிகமாய்ப் பிசினித்தனம்பண்ணியும் வறுமையடைவாரும் உண்டு.

²⁵The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself.

²⁵உதாரகுணமுள்ள ஆத்துமா செழிக்கும்; எவன் தண்ணீர் பாய்ச்சுகிறானோ அவனுக்குத் தண்ணீர் பாய்ச்சப்படும்.

²⁶People curse someone who withholds grain, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.

²⁶தானியத்தைக் கட்டிவைக்கிறவனை ஜனங்கள் சபிப்பார்கள்; விற்கிறவனுடைய தலையின்மேல் ஆசீர்வாதம் தங்கும்.

²⁷He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come to him.

²⁷நன்மையை ஜாக்கிரதையுடன் தேடுகிறவன் தயையைப் பெறுவான்; தீமையைத் தேடுகிறவனுக்கோ தீமையே வரும்.

²⁸He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

²⁸தன் ஐசுவரியத்தை நம்புகிறவன் விழுவான்; நீதிமான்களோ துளிரைப்போலே தழைப்பார்கள்.

²⁹He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind. The foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.

²⁹தன் வீட்டைக் கலைக்கிறவன் காற்றைச் சுதந்தரிப்பான்; மூடன் ஞானமுள்ளவனுக்கு அடிமையாவான்.

³⁰The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls.

³⁰நீதிமானுடைய பலன் ஜீவவிருட்சம்; ஆத்துமாக்களை ஆதாயப்படுத்திக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் ஞானமுள்ளவன்.

³¹Behold, the righteous shall be repaid in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!

³¹இதோ, நீதிமானுக்கு பூமியில் சரிக்கட்டப்படுமே; துன்மார்க்கனுக்கும் பாவிக்கும் எத்தனை அதிகம்.
