2மூடன் ஞானத்தில் பிரியங்கொள்ளாமல், தன் மனதிலுள்ளவைகளை வெளிப்படுத்தப் பிரியப்படுகிறான்.
3When wickedness comes, contempt also comes, and with shame comes disgrace.
3துன்மார்க்கன் வர அவமானம் வரும்; அவமானத்தோடே நிந்தையும் வரும்.
4The words of a man’s mouth are like deep waters. The fountain of wisdom is like a flowing brook.
4மனுஷனுடைய வாய்மொழிகள் ஆழமான ஜலம்போலிருக்கும்; ஞானத்தின் ஊற்று பாய்கிற ஆற்றைப்போலிருக்கும்.
5To be partial to the faces of the wicked is not good, nor to deprive the innocent of justice.
5வழக்கிலே நீதிமானைத் தோற்கடிக்கிறதற்கு, துன்மார்க்கனுக்கு முகதாட்சிணியம்பண்ணுவது நல்லதல்ல.
6A fool’s lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.
6மூடனுடைய உதடுகள் விவாதத்தில் நுழையும், அவன் வாய் அடிகளை வரவழைக்கும்.
7A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
7மூடனுடைய வாய் அவனுக்குக் கேடு, அவன் உதடுகள் அவன் ஆத்துமாவுக்குக் கண்ணி.
8The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels: they go down into a person’s innermost parts.

11The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.
11ஐசுவரியவானுடைய பொருள் அவனுக்கு அரணான பட்டணம்; அது அவன் எண்ணத்தில் உயர்ந்த மதில்போலிருக்கும்.
12Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.
12அழிவு வருமுன் மனுஷனுடைய இருதயம் இறுமாப்பாயிருக்கும்; மேன்மைக்கு முன்னானது தாழ்மை.
13He who gives answer before he hears, that is folly and shame to him.
13காரியத்தைக் கேட்குமுன் உத்தரம் சொல்லுகிறவனுக்கு, அது புத்தியீனமும் வெட்கமுமாயிருக்கும்.
14A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?
14மனுஷனுடைய ஆவி அவன் பலவீனத்தைத் தாங்கும்; முறிந்த ஆவி யாரால் தாங்கக்கூடும்?
15The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
15புத்திமானுடைய மனம் அறிவைச் சம்பாதிக்கும்; ஞானியின் செவி அறிவை நாடும்.
16A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.
16ஒருவன் கொடுக்கும் வெகுமதி அவனுக்கு வழியுண்டாக்கி, பெரியோர்களுக்கு முன்பாக அவனைக் கொண்டுபோய்விடும்.
17He who pleads his cause first seems right; until another comes and questions him.
17தன் வழக்கிலே முதல் பேசுகிறவன் நீதிமான்போல் காணப்படுவான்; அவன் அயலானோ வந்து அவனை பரிசோதிக்கிறான்.
18The lot settles disputes, and keeps strong ones apart.
18சீட்டுப்போடுதல் விரோதங்களை ஒழித்து, பலவான்கள் நடுவே சிக்கறுக்கும்.
19A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city; and disputes are like the bars of a castle.
19அரணான பட்டணத்தை வசப்படுத்துவதைப்பார்க்கிலும் கோபங்கொண்ட சகோதரனை வசப்படுத்துவது அரிது; அவர்களுடைய விரோதங்கள் கோட்டைத் தாழ்ப்பாள்கள் போலிருக்கும்.
20A man’s stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth. With the harvest of his lips he is satisfied.
20அவனவன் வாயின் பலனால் அவனவன் வயிறு நிரம்பும்; அவனவன் உதடுகளின் விளைவினால் அவனவன் திருப்தியாவான்.
21Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
21மரணமும் ஜீவனும் நாவின் அதிகாரத்திலிருக்கும்; அதில் பிரியப்படுகிறவர்கள் அதின் கனியைப் புசிப்பார்கள்.
22Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh.
22மனைவியைக் கண்டடைகிறவன் நன்மையானதைக் கண்டடைகிறான்; கர்த்தரால் தயையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.
23The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly.
23தரித்திரன் கெஞ்சிக்கேட்கிறான்; ஐசுவரியவான் கடினமாய் உத்தரவுகொடுக்கிறான்.
24A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
24சிநேகிதருள்ளவன் சிநேகம் பாராட்டவேண்டும்; சகோதரனிலும் அதிக சொந்தமாய்ச் சிநேகிப்பவனுமுண்டு.
