¹My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;

¹என் மகனே, நீ உன் சிநேகிதனுக்காகப் பிணைப்பட்டு, அந்நியனுக்குக் கையடித்துக்கொடுத்தாயானால்,

²You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.

²நீ உன் வாய்மொழிகளால் சிக்குண்டாய், உன் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளால் பிடிபட்டாய்.

³Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.

³இப்பொழுது என் மகனே, உன் சிநேகிதனுடைய கையில் நீ அகப்பட்டுக்கொண்டபடியால், நீ உன்னைத் தப்புவித்துக்கொள்ள ஒன்று செய்.

⁴Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

⁴உன் கண்ணுக்கு நித்திரையும், உன் கண்ணிமைக்குத் தூக்கமும் வரவிடாமல், உன் சிநேகிதனிடத்தில் போய், உன்னைத் தாழ்த்தி, அவனை வருந்திக் கேட்டுக்கொள்.

⁵Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

⁵வெளிமான் வேட்டைக்காரன் கைக்கும், குருவி வேடன் கைக்கும் தப்புவதுபோல, நீ உன்னைத் தப்புவித்துக்கொள்.

⁶Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;

⁶சோம்பேறியே, நீ எறும்பினிடத்தில் போய், அதின் வழிகளைப் பார்த்து, ஞானத்தைக் கற்றுக்கொள்.

⁷அதற்குப் பிரபுவும், தலைவனும், அதிகாரியும் இல்லாதிருந்தும்,

⁸provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

⁸கோடைகாலத்தில் தனக்கு ஆகாரத்தைச் சம்பாதித்து, அறுப்புக்காலத்தில் தனக்குத் தானியத்தைச் சேர்த்துவைக்கும்.

⁹How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

⁹சோம்பேறியே, நீ எவ்வளவு நேரம் படுத்திருப்பாய்? எப்பொழுது உன் தூக்கத்தைவிட்டு எழுந்திருப்பாய்?

¹⁰A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹⁰இன்னுங் கொஞ்சம் தூங்கட்டும், இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் உறங்கட்டும், இன்னுங் கொஞ்சம் கைமுடக்கிக்கொண்டு நித்திரை செய்யட்டும் என்பாயோ?

¹¹so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.

¹¹உன் தரித்திரம் வழிப்போக்கனைப் போலவும், உன் வறுமை ஆயுதமணிந்தவனைப்போலவும் வரும்.

¹²A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth;

¹²பேலியாளின் மனுஷனாகிய ஒரு துன்மார்க்கன் ஆகடியம் பேசித்திரிகிறான்.

¹³who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;

¹³அவன் தன் கண்களால் சைகைகாட்டி, தன் கால்களால் பேசி, தன் விரல்களால் போதனை செய்கிறான்.

¹⁴in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.

¹⁴அவன் இருதயத்திலே திரியாவரமுண்டு; இடைவிடாமல் பொல்லாப்பைப் பிணைத்து, வழக்குகளை உண்டுபண்ணுகிறான்.

¹⁵Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

¹⁵ஆகையால் சடிதியில் அவனுக்கு ஆபத்து வரும்; சகாயமின்றிச் சடிதியில் நாசமடைவான்.

¹⁶There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

¹⁶ஆறு காரியங்களைக் கர்த்தர் வெறுக்கிறார், ஏழும் அவருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்.

¹⁷haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;

¹⁷அவையாவன: மேட்டிமையான கண், பொய்நாவு, குற்றமற்றவர்களுடைய இரத்தம் சிந்துங்கை,

¹⁸a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁸துராலோசனையைப் பிணைக்கும் இருதயம், தீங்கு செய்வதற்கு விரைந்தோடுங்கால்,

¹⁹a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

¹⁹அபத்தம் பேசும் பொய்ச்சாட்சி, சகோதரருக்குள்ளே விரோதத்தை உண்டுபண்ணுதல் ஆகிய இவைகளே.

²⁰My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.

²⁰என் மகனே, உன் தகப்பன் கற்பனையைக் காத்துக்கொள்; உன் தாயின் போதகத்தைத் தள்ளாதே.

²¹Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.

²¹அவைகளை எப்பொழுதும் உன் இருதயத்திலே அணிந்து, அவைகளை உன் கழுத்திலே கட்டிக்கொள்.

²²When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.

²²நீ நடக்கும்போது அது உனக்கு வழிகாட்டும்; நீ படுக்கும்போது அது உன்னைக் காப்பாற்றும்; நீ விழிக்கும்போது அது உன்னோடே சம்பாஷிக்கும்.

²³For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

²³கட்டளையே விளக்கு, வேதமே வெளிச்சம், போதகசிட்சையே ஜீவவழி.

²⁴to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

²⁴அது உன்னைத் துன்மார்க்க ஸ்திரீக்கும், இச்சகம்பேசும் நாவையுடைய பரஸ்திரீக்கும் விலக்கிக் காக்கும்.

²⁵Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.

²⁵உன் இருதயத்திலே அவள் அழகை இச்சியாதே; அவள் தன் கண்ணிமைகளினால் உன்னைப் பிடிக்கவிடாதே.

²⁶For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

²⁶வேசியினிமித்தம் ஒரு அப்பத்துணிக்கையையும் இரக்கவேண்டியதாகும்; விபசாரியானவள் அருமையான உயிரை வேட்டையாடுகிறாள்.

²⁷Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?

²⁷தன் வஸ்திரம் வேகாமல் மடியிலே எவனாவது நெருப்பை வைத்துக்கொள்ளக்கூடுமோ?

²⁸Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

²⁸தன் கால் சுடாமல் எவனாவது தழலின்மேல் நடக்கக்கூடுமோ?

²⁹So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.

²⁹பிறனுடைய மனைவியிடத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பவனும், அப்படியே அவளைத்தொடுகிற எவனும், ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்.

³⁰Men don’t despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:

³⁰திருடன் தன் பசியை ஆற்றத் திருடினால் ஜனங்கள் அவனை இகழமாட்டார்கள்;

³¹but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.

³¹அவன் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டால் ஏழு மடங்கு கொடுத்துத் தீரவேண்டும்; தன் வீட்டிலுள்ள பொருள்களையெல்லாம் கொடுக்கவேண்டியதாகும்.

³²He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.

³²ஸ்திரீயுடனே விபசாரம்பண்ணுகிறவன் மதிகெட்டவன்; அப்படிச் செய்கிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் கெடுத்துப்போடுகிறான்.

³³He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.

³³வாதையையும் இலச்சையையும் அடைவான்; அவன் நிந்தை ஒழியாது.

³⁴For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁴ஸ்திரீயைப்பற்றிய எரிச்சல் புருஷனுக்கு மூர்க்கத்தை உண்டுபண்ணும்; அவன் பழிவாங்கும் நாளில் தப்பவிடான்.

³⁵He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.

³⁵அவன் எந்த ஈட்டையும் பாரான்; அநேகம் வெகுமதிகளைக் கொடுத்தாலும் அமர்ந்திருக்கமாட்டான்.
