¹ஜனங்களே, நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் இதைக் கேளுங்கள்.

²both low and high, rich and poor together.

²பூமியின் குடிகளே, சிறியோரும் பெரியோரும் ஐசுவரியவான்களும் எளியவர்களுமாகிய நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் ஏகமாய்ச் செவிகொடுங்கள்.

³My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart shall utter understanding.

³என் வாய் ஞானத்தைப் பேசும்; என் இருதயம் உணர்வைத் தியானிக்கும்.

⁴I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will open my riddle on the harp.

⁴என் செவியை உவமைமொழிக்குச் சாய்த்து, என் மறைபொருளைச் சுரமண்டலத்தின்மேல் வெளிப்படுத்துவேன்.

⁵Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?

⁶Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches—
