¹Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

¹พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ยิ่งกว่านี่ข้าพเจ้าอยากให้ท่านทั้งหลายเข้าใจว่าบรรพบุรุษของเราทั้งสิ้นได้อยู่ใต้เมฆ และได้ผ่านทะเลไปทุกคน

²and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

²ได้รับบัพติศมาในเมฆและในทะเลเข้าส่วนกับโมเสสทุกคน

³and all ate the same spiritual food;

³และได้รับประทานอาหารฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณอันเดียวกันทุกคน

⁴and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

⁴และได้ดื่มน้ำฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณอันเดียวกันทุกคน เพราะว่าเขาได้ดื่มน้ำซึ่งไหลออกมาจากศิลาฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณที่ติดตามเขามา ศิลานั้นคือพระคริสต์

⁵However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

⁵แต่ถึงกระนั้นก็ดีมีคนส่วนมากในพวกนั้นที่พระเจ้าไม่ทรงพอพระทัย เพราะว่าเขาล้มตายกันเกลื่อนกลาดในถิ่นทุรกันดาร

⁶Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

⁶แล้วเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้จึงเป็นเครื่องเตือนใจพวกเรา ไม่ให้เรามีใจโลภปรารถนาสิ่งที่ชั่วเหมือนเขาเหล่านั้น

⁷Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” Exodus 32:6

⁷ท่านทั้งหลายอย่านับถือรูปเคารพ เหมือนอย่างที่บางคนในพวกเขาได้กระทำ ตามที่มีเขียนไว้แล้วว่า `ประชาชนก็นั่งลงกินและดื่ม แล้วก็ลุกขึ้นเล่นสนุกกัน'

⁸Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.

⁹Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.

¹⁰Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.

¹¹Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

¹¹แต่บรรดาเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้จึงได้บังเกิดแก่เขาเพื่อเป็นตัวอย่าง และได้บันทึกไว้เพื่อเตือนสติเราทั้งหลาย ผู้ซึ่งกำลังอยู่ในกาลสุดปลายของแผ่นดินโลก

¹²Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.

¹²เหตุฉะนั้นคนที่คิดว่าตัวเองมั่นคงดีแล้ว ก็จงระวังให้ดี กลัวว่าจะล้มลง

¹³No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

¹³ไม่มีการทดลองใดๆเกิดขึ้นกับท่าน นอกเหนือจากการทดลองซึ่งเคยเกิดกับมนุษย์ทั้งหลาย แต่พระเจ้าทรงสัตย์ซื่อ พระองค์จะไม่ทรงให้ท่านต้องถูกทดลองเกินกว่าที่ท่านจะทนได้ แต่เมื่อท่านถูกทดลองนั้น พระองค์จะทรงโปรดให้ท่านมีทางที่จะหลีกเลี่ยงได้ด้วย เพื่อท่านจะมีกำลังทนได้

¹⁴Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

¹⁴พวกที่รักของข้าพเจ้า เหตุฉะนั้นท่านจงหลีกเลี่ยงเสียจากการนับถือรูปเคารพ

¹⁵I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.

¹⁵ข้าพเจ้าพูดกับท่านอย่างพูดกับคนที่มีปัญญา ท่านจงพิจารณาถ้อยคำที่ข้าพเจ้าพูดนั้นเถิด

¹⁶The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ?

¹⁶ถ้วยแห่งพระพรซึ่งเราได้ขอพระพรนั้นเป็นที่ทำให้เรามีส่วนร่วมในพระโลหิตของพระคริสต์มิใช่หรือ ขนมปังซึ่งเราหักนั้นเป็นที่ทำให้เรามีส่วนร่วมในพระกายของพระคริสต์มิใช่หรือ

¹⁷Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.

¹⁷แม้เราซึ่งเป็นบุคคลหลายคน เราก็ยังเป็นขนมปังก้อนเดียวและเป็นร่างกายเดียว เพราะว่าเราทุกคนรับประทานขนมปังก้อนเดียวกัน

¹⁸Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?

¹⁸จงพิจารณาดูพวกอิสราเอลตามเนื้อหนัง คนที่รับประทานของที่บูชาแล้วนั้น ก็มีส่วนร่วมในแท่นบูชานั้นมิใช่หรือ

¹⁹What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

¹⁹ถ้าอย่างนั้นแล้วจะให้ข้าพเจ้าว่าอย่างไร รูปเคารพนั้นศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือ เครื่องบูชาที่ถวายแก่รูปเคารพนั้นเป็นของศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือ

²⁰But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.

²⁰แต่ข้าพเจ้าว่า เครื่องบูชาที่พวกต่างชาติถวายนั้น เขาถวายบูชาแก่พวกปิศาจ และไม่ได้ถวายแก่พระเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าไม่ปรารถนาให้ท่านมีส่วนร่วมกับพวกปิศาจ

²¹You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.

²¹ท่านจะดื่มจากถ้วยขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและจากถ้วยของพวกปิศาจด้วยไม่ได้ ท่านจะรับประทานที่โต๊ะขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและที่โต๊ะของพวกปิศาจด้วยก็ไม่ได้

²²Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

²²เราจะยั่วยุให้องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอิจฉาหรือ เรามีฤทธิ์มากกว่าพระองค์หรือ

²³“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.

²³ข้าพเจ้าทำสิ่งสารพัดได้ แต่ไม่ใช่ทุกสิ่งที่จะทำได้นั้นเป็นประโยชน์ ข้าพเจ้าทำสิ่งสารพัดได้ แต่ไม่ใช่ทุกสิ่งจะทำให้เจริญขึ้น

²⁴Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.

²⁴อย่าให้ผู้ใดเห็นแก่ประโยชน์ส่วนตัว แต่จงเห็นแก่ประโยชน์ของคนอื่น

²⁵Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,

²⁵ทุกสิ่งที่เขาขายตามตลาดเนื้อนั้นรับประทานได้ ไม่ต้องถามอะไรโดยเห็นแก่ใจสำนึกผิดชอบ

²⁶for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.” Psalm 24:1

²⁶เพราะว่า `แผ่นดินโลกกับสรรพสิ่งในโลกนั้นเป็นขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า'

²⁷But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.

²⁷ถ้าคนที่ไม่มีความเชื่อจะเชิญท่านไปในงานเลี้ยงและท่านเต็มใจไป สิ่งที่เขาตั้งให้รับประทานก็รับประทานได้ ไม่ต้องถามอะไรโดยเห็นแก่ใจสำนึกผิดชอบ

²⁸But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.”

²⁸แต่ถ้ามีใครมาบอกท่านว่า "ของนี้เขาถวายแก่รูปเคารพแล้ว" ท่านอย่ารับประทาน เพราะเห็นแก่คนที่บอกนั้นและเพราะเห็นแก่ใจสำนึกผิดชอบด้วย เพราะว่า `แผ่นดินโลกกับสรรพสิ่งในโลกนั้นเป็นขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า'

²⁹Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?

²⁹ข้าพเจ้ามิได้หมายถึงใจสำนึกผิดชอบของท่าน แต่หมายถึงใจสำนึกผิดชอบของคนที่บอกนั้น ทำไมใจสำนึกผิดชอบของผู้อื่นจะต้องมาขัดขวางเสรีภาพของข้าพเจ้าเล่า

³⁰If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for that for which I give thanks?

³⁰ถ้าข้าพเจ้ารับประทานโดยพระคุณ ทำไมเขาติเตียนข้าพเจ้าเพราะสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าได้ขอบพระคุณแล้วเล่า

³¹Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

³¹เหตุฉะนั้นเมื่อท่านจะรับประทาน จะดื่ม หรือจะทำอะไรก็ตาม จงกระทำเพื่อเป็นการถวายพระเกียรติแด่พระเจ้า

³²Give no occasions for stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;

³²อย่าเป็นต้นเหตุที่ทำให้พวกยิว หรือพวกต่างชาติ หรือคริสตจักรของพระเจ้าหลงผิดไป

³³even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.

³³เหมือนที่ข้าพเจ้าเองได้พยายามกระทำทุกสิ่งเพื่อให้เป็นที่พอใจของคนทั้งปวง มิได้เห็นแก่ประโยชน์ส่วนตัว แต่เห็นแก่ประโยชน์ของคนทั้งหลาย เพื่อให้เขารอดได้
