¹In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word;

¹ฝ่ายท่านทั้งหลายที่เป็นภรรยาก็เช่นกัน จงเชื่อฟังสามีของท่าน เพื่อว่าแม้สามีบางคนจะไม่เชื่อฟังพระวจนะ แต่ความประพฤติของภรรยาก็อาจจะจูงใจเขาได้ด้วยโดยไม่ต้องใช้พระวจนะนั้น

²seeing your pure behavior in fear.

²คือเมื่อเขาเห็นการประพฤติอันบริสุทธิ์ของท่านทั้งหลาย ผู้เป็นภรรยาประกอบกับความยำเกรง

³Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing;

³การประดับกายของท่านนั้น อย่าให้เป็นการประดับภายนอก คือการถักผม ประดับด้วยเครื่องทองคำ และนุ่งห่มเสื้อผ้าสวยงาม

⁴but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious.

⁴แต่จงให้เป็นอย่างคนที่ซ่อนไว้ในจิตใจ ด้วยสิ่งที่ไม่รู้เสื่อมสลาย คือเครื่องประดับแห่งจิตใจที่อ่อนสุภาพและสงบเสงี่ยม ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่มีค่ามากในสายพระเนตรพระเจ้า

⁵For this is how the holy women before, who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:

⁵บรรดาสตรีบริสุทธิ์ในครั้งโบราณนั้นเช่นกัน ผู้ซึ่งวางใจในพระเจ้า ก็ได้ประดับกายเช่นกันและเชื่อฟังสามีของตน

⁶as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

⁶เช่นนางซาราห์เชื่อฟังอับราฮัมและเรียกท่านว่านาย ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายประพฤติดี และไม่มีความหวาดกลัวด้วยตกตะลึงสิ่งใด ท่านก็เป็นลูกหลานของนาง

⁷You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered.

⁷ฝ่ายท่านทั้งหลายที่เป็นสามีก็เหมือนกัน จงอยู่กินกับภรรยาโดยใช้ความรู้ จงให้เกียรติแก่ภรรยาเหมือนหนึ่งเป็นภาชนะที่อ่อนแอกว่า และเหมือนเป็นคู่รับมรดกพระคุณแห่งชีวิตด้วยกัน เพื่อจะได้ไม่มีสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใดขัดขวางคำอธิษฐานของท่าน

⁸Finally, be all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous,

⁸ในที่สุดนี้ ท่านทั้งหลายจงเป็นน้ำหนึ่งใจเดียวกัน เห็นอกเห็นใจกัน รักกันฉันพี่น้อง มีจิตใจอ่อนโยน มีใจสุภาพ

⁹not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing; knowing that to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.

⁹อย่าทำการร้ายตอบแทนการร้าย อย่าด่าตอบการด่า แต่ตรงกันข้ามจงอวยพรแก่เขา โดยรู้อยู่ว่าพระองค์ได้ทรงเรียกท่านกระทำเช่นนั้น เพื่อท่านจะได้รับพระพรเป็นมรดก

¹⁰For, “He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.

¹⁰เพราะว่า `ผู้ที่จะรักชีวิตและปรารถนาที่จะเห็นวันดี ก็ให้ผู้นั้นบังคับลิ้นของตนจากความชั่ว และห้ามริมฝีปากไม่พูดเป็นอุบายล่อลวง

¹¹Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ให้เขาละความชั่วและกระทำความดี แสวงหาความสงบสุขและดำเนินตามนั้น

¹²For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” Psalm 34:12-16

¹²เพราะว่าพระเนตรขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงเฝ้าดูคนชอบธรรม และพระกรรณของพระองค์ทรงสดับฟังคำอธิษฐานของเขา แต่พระพักตร์ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงตั้งต่อสู้กับคนทั้งหลายที่ทำความชั่ว'

¹³Now who is he who will harm you, if you become imitators of that which is good?

¹³ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายใฝ่ใจประพฤติความดี ใครผู้ใดจะทำร้ายท่านได้

¹⁴But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled.” Isaiah 8:12

¹⁴แต่ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายต้องทนทุกข์ เพราะเหตุการชอบธรรม ท่านก็เป็นสุข อย่ากลัวคำขู่ของเขา และอย่าคิดวิตกไปเลย

¹⁵But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear:

¹⁵แต่ในใจของท่าน จงเคารพนับถือพระเจ้าซึ่งเป็นองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และจงเตรียมตัวไว้ให้พร้อมเสมอ เพื่อท่านจะสามารถตอบทุกคนที่ถามท่านว่า ท่านมีความหวังใจเช่นนี้ด้วยเหตุผลประการใด แต่จงตอบด้วยใจสุภาพและด้วยความยำเกรง

¹⁶having a good conscience; that, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ.

¹⁶มีใจวินิจฉัยผิดและชอบอันดี เพื่อในข้อความที่เขาทั้งหลายได้พูดใส่ร้ายท่านเหมือนเป็นผู้ประพฤติชั่ว เขาที่ใส่ร้ายการประพฤติดีของท่านในพระคริสต์จะได้มีความละอาย

¹⁷For it is better, if it is God’s will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil.

¹⁷เพราะว่า การได้รับความทุกข์เพราะทำความดี ถ้าเป็นที่ชอบพระทัยพระเจ้า ก็ดีกว่าจะต้องทนอยู่เพราะการประพฤติชั่ว

¹⁸Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

¹⁸ด้วยว่า พระคริสต์เช่นกันก็ได้ทนทุกข์ครั้งเดียวเท่านั้น เพราะความผิดบาป คือพระองค์ผู้ชอบธรรมเพื่อผู้ไม่ชอบธรรม เพื่อพระองค์จะได้ทรงนำเราทั้งหลายไปถึงพระเจ้า ฝ่ายเนื้อหนังพระองค์ก็ทรงสิ้นพระชนม์ แต่ทรงมีชีวิตขึ้นโดยพระวิญญาณ

¹⁹in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,

¹⁹และโดยพระวิญญาณเช่นกัน พระองค์ได้เสด็จไปประกาศแก่วิญญาณที่ติดคุกอยู่

²⁰who before were disobedient, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ship was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

²⁰ซึ่งแต่ก่อนไม่ได้เชื่อฟัง คราวเมื่อพระเจ้าทรงโปรดงดโทษไว้นาน คือครั้งโนอาห์ เมื่อกำลังจัดแจงต่อนาวา ในนาวานั้นได้รอดจากน้ำน้อยคน คือแปดคน

²¹This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you—not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

²¹เช่นเดียวกัน บัดนี้พิธีบัพติศมาก็เป็นภาพที่รอดแก่เราทั้งหลาย (ไม่ใช่ด้วยชำระราคีแห่งเนื้อหนัง แต่โดยให้มีใจวินิจฉัยผิดและชอบอันดีจำเพาะพระเจ้า) โดยซึ่งพระเยซูคริสต์ได้ทรงเป็นขึ้นมาจากตาย

²²who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.

²²พระองค์ได้เสด็จเข้าในสวรรค์แล้ว และสถิตอยู่เบื้องขวาพระหัตถ์ของพระเจ้า พวกทูตสวรรค์และผู้มีอำนาจและผู้มีฤทธิ์เดชทั้งหลาย ทรงมอบไว้ให้อยู่ใต้อำนาจของพระองค์แล้ว
