¹Don’t rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brothers;

¹อย่าพูดสบประมาทคนมีอาวุโส แต่จงตักเตือนเขาเสมือนเป็นบิดา และคนหนุ่มๆทั้งหลายเป็นเสมือนพี่หรือน้อง

²the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.

²และผู้หญิงผู้มีอาวุโสเป็นเสมือนมารดา และส่วนหญิงสาวๆก็ให้เป็นเสมือนพี่สาวน้องสาว ด้วยความบริสุทธิ์ทั้งหมด

³Honor widows who are widows indeed.

³จงให้เกียรติแก่แม่ม่ายไร้ที่พึ่ง

⁴But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is TR adds “good and” acceptable in the sight of God.

⁴ถ้าแม่ม่ายคนใดมีลูกหลานก็ให้ลูกหลานนั้นเรียนเพื่อให้รู้จักที่จะปฏิบัติกับครอบครัวของตนก่อน และให้ตอบแทนคุณบิดามารดาของตน เพราะว่าการกระทำเช่นนี้เป็นการดีและเป็นที่ชอบต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้า

⁵Now she who is a widow indeed, and desolate, has her hope set on God, and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.

⁵ฝ่ายผู้หญิงที่เป็นแม่ม่ายอย่างแท้จริง และอยู่ตามลำพังแต่ผู้เดียวนั้น จงวางใจในพระเจ้า และดำรงอยู่ในการวิงวอนและการอธิษฐานทั้งกลางวันและกลางคืน

⁶But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.

⁶ส่วนผู้หญิงที่ปล่อยตัวในการสนุกสนานนั้น ก็ตายแล้วทั้งเป็นๆอยู่

⁷Also command these things, that they may be without reproach.

⁷จงกำชับข้อความเหล่านี้ เพื่อเขาจะไม่ถูกตำหนิ

⁸But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁸ถ้าแม้ผู้ใดไม่เลี้ยงดูวงศ์ญาติของตน และโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งคนในบ้านเรือนของตน ผู้นั้นก็ได้ปฏิเสธความเชื่อเสียแล้ว และชั่วยิ่งกว่าคนที่ไม่ได้เชื่อเสียอีก

⁹Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

⁹อย่าให้แม่ม่ายคนใดที่อายุต่ำกว่าหกสิบปี ลงชื่อในทะเบียนแม่ม่าย จะต้องเป็นภรรยาของชายคนเดียว

¹⁰being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.

¹⁰และจะต้องเป็นผู้ที่ได้ชื่อว่าได้กระทำดี เช่นได้เอาใจใส่เลี้ยงดูลูก ได้มีน้ำใจรับรองแขก ได้ล้างเท้าวิสุทธิชน ได้สงเคราะห์คนที่มีความทุกข์ยาก และได้บำเพ็ญคุณความดีทุกอย่าง

¹¹But refuse younger widows, for when they have grown wanton against Christ, they desire to marry;

¹¹แต่แม่ม่ายสาวๆนั้นอย่ารับขึ้นทะเบียน เพราะว่าเมื่อเขาหลงละเลิงห่างจากพระคริสต์ไปแล้ว ก็ใคร่จะสมรสอีก

¹²having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.

¹²เขาจะต้องถูกตำหนิ เพราะเขาได้ทิ้งความเชื่อเดิมของเขา

¹³Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.

¹³นอกจากนั้นเขาก็จะกลายเป็นคนเกียจคร้าน เที่ยวไปบ้านนี้บ้านนั้น และมิใช่แต่เกียจคร้านเท่านั้น แต่ปากบอนด้วย และเที่ยวยุ่งกับเรื่องของผู้อื่น พูดสิ่งซึ่งไม่ควรจะพูด

¹⁴I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for insulting.

¹⁴เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาให้พวกแม่ม่ายสาวๆนั้นมีสามี มีบุตร และดูแลบ้านเรือน เพื่อมิให้ศัตรูมีช่องทางนินทาได้

¹⁵For already some have turned aside after Satan.

¹⁵ด้วยว่ามีบางคนได้หลงตามซาตานไปแล้ว

¹⁶If any man or woman who believes has widows, let them relieve them, and don’t let the assembly be burdened; that it might relieve those who are widows indeed.

¹⁶ถ้าชายหรือหญิงผู้มีความเชื่อคนใดมีแม่ม่าย ก็ให้เขาช่วยเลี้ยงดู อย่าให้เป็นภาระของคริสตจักรเลย เพื่อคริสตจักรจะได้สงเคราะห์คนที่เป็นแม่ม่ายไร้ที่พึ่งจริงๆ

¹⁷Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.

¹⁷จงถือว่าผู้ปกครองที่ปกครองดีนั้นสมควรได้รับเกียรติสองเท่า โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผู้ปกครองที่ทำงานหนักในการเทศนาและสั่งสอน

¹⁸For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain.” Deuteronomy 25:4 And, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.” Luke 10:7; Leviticus 19:13

¹⁸เพราะพระคัมภีร์กล่าวว่า `อย่าเอาตะกร้าครอบปากวัว เมื่อมันกำลังนวดข้าวอยู่' และ `ผู้ทำงานสมควรจะได้รับค่าจ้างของตน'

¹⁹Don’t receive an accusation against an elder, except at the word of two or three witnesses.

¹⁹อย่ายอมรับคำกล่าวหาผู้ปกครองคนใด เว้นเสียแต่จะมีพยานสองสามคน

²⁰Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.

²⁰สำหรับผู้ปกครองที่ยังคงกระทำบาป จงว่ากล่าวเขาต่อหน้าคนทั้งปวง เพื่อผู้อื่นจะได้เกรงกลัวด้วย

²¹I command you in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.

²¹ข้าพเจ้ากำชับท่านต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้าและต่อพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้า และต่อเหล่าทูตสวรรค์ที่ทรงเลือกสรรไว้แล้วนั้น ให้ท่านรักษาข้อความเหล่านี้ไว้โดยไม่เห็นแก่หน้าผู้ใด และไม่กระทำการใดๆด้วยใจลำเอียง

²²Lay hands hastily on no one, neither be a participant in other men’s sins. Keep yourself pure.

²²อย่าด่วนวางมือเจิมผู้ใด และอย่ามีส่วนร่วมในการกระทำบาปของผู้อื่นเลย จงรักษาตัวให้บริสุทธิ์

²³Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.

²³อย่าดื่มแต่น้ำอีกต่อไป แต่จงใช้น้ำองุ่นบ้างเล็กน้อย เพื่อประโยชน์แก่กระเพาะอาหารของท่านและโรคที่บังเกิดแก่ท่านเนืองๆ

²⁴Some men’s sins are evident, preceding them to judgment, and some also follow later.

²⁴การผิดของบางคนย่อมปรากฏเด่นขึ้นก่อน แล้วก็นำเขาไปถึงที่พิพากษา แต่การผิดของบางคนนั้นจะตามหลังเขาไป

²⁵In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise can’t be hidden.

²⁵ฝ่ายการดีของบางคนก็ปรากฏเด่นขึ้นก่อนด้วยเหมือนกัน และการนอกนั้นจะปิดบังไว้ก็ไม่ได้
