¹The word of Yahweh came to me again, saying,

¹พระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์มายังข้าพเจ้าอีกว่า

²What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

²"เจ้าทั้งหลายมีเจตนาอย่างไรในการกล่าวสุภาษิตข้อนี้อันเกี่ยวกับแผ่นดินอิสราเอลว่า `บิดารับประทานองุ่นเปรี้ยวและบุตรก็เข็ดฟัน'

³As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, you shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

³องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า เรามีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด เจ้าทั้งหลายจะไม่มีโอกาสใช้สุภาษิตนี้อีกในอิสราเอล

⁴Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins, he shall die.

⁴ดูเถิด ชีวิตทั้งสิ้นเป็นของเรา ชีวิตของบิดาเป็นของเราฉันใด ชีวิตของบุตรชายก็เป็นของเราฉันนั้น ชีวิตใดทำบาปก็จะตาย

⁵But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

⁵ถ้าคนใดชอบธรรมและกระทำความยุติธธรรมและความชอบธรรม

⁶and has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither has defiled his neighbor’s wife, neither has come near to a woman in her impurity,

⁶ถ้าคนนั้นมิได้รับประทานที่บนภูเขาหรือเงยหน้าขึ้นนมัสการรูปเคารพแห่งวงศ์วานอิสราเอล มิได้กระทำให้ภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้านมลทิน หรือเข้าใกล้ผู้หญิงในเวลาที่เธอมีมลทินประจำเดือน

⁷and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

⁷มิได้บีบบังคับผู้หนึ่งผู้ใด แต่คืนของประกันให้แก่ลูกหนี้ ไม่เคยใช้ความรุนแรงปล้นผู้ใด ให้อาหารของเขาแก่ผู้ที่หิว และให้เสื้อผ้าคลุมกายที่เปลือย

⁸he who has not given forth on interest, neither has taken any increase, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

⁸มิได้ให้เขายืมเพื่อหาดอกเบี้ย หรือมิได้รับเงินเพิ่มหดมือไว้ ได้ถอนมือจากความชั่วช้า กระทำความยุติธรรมอันแท้จริงระหว่างมนุษย์กับมนุษย์ด้วยกัน

⁹has walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, says the Lord Yahweh.

⁹ดำเนินตามกฎเกณฑ์ของเรา และระวังที่จะกระทำตามคำตัดสินของเรา ได้ประพฤติอย่างถูกต้อง คนนั้นเป็นคนชอบธรรม เขาจะมีชีวิตดำรงอยู่แน่ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสดังนี้แหละ

¹⁰If he fathers a son who is a robber, a shedder of blood, and who does any one of these things,

¹⁰ถ้าเขามีบุตรชายเป็นโจร ผู้กระทำให้โลหิตตก ผู้ได้กระทำสิ่งเหล่านี้สิ่งเดียวแก่พี่น้อง

¹¹and who does not any of those duties, but even has eaten on the mountains, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

¹¹ผู้มิได้กระทำตามหน้าที่เหล่านี้ แต่รับประทานบนภูเขา กระทำให้ภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้านมลทิน

¹²has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

¹²กดขี่คนจนและคนขัดสน ได้ใช้ความรุนแรงแย่งชิงเอาของผู้อื่นไป ไม่ยอมคืนของประกัน แหงนตาขึ้นนมัสการรูปเคารพ และกระทำการอันน่าสะอิดสะเอียน

¹³has given forth on interest, and has taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be on him.

¹³ให้ยืมด้วยหาดอกเบี้ย และหาเงินเพิ่ม เขาควรจะมีชีวิตต่อไปหรือ เขาจะไม่มีชีวิตอยู่ เขาได้กระทำบรรดาสิ่งที่น่าสะอิดสะเอียนเหล่านี้ เขาจะต้องตายแน่ ให้โลหิตของผู้นั้นตกอยู่บนผู้นั้นเอง

¹⁴Now, behold, if he fathers a son, who sees all his father’s sins, which he has done, and fears, and does not such like;

¹⁴แต่ ดูเถิด ถ้าชายคนนี้มีบุตรชายผู้แลเห็นบาปทั้งสิ้นซึ่งบิดาของเขาได้กระทำ และตรึกตรอง และมิได้กระทำตาม

¹⁵who has not eaten on the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor’s wife,

¹⁵มิได้รับประทานบนภูเขา หรือเงยหน้าขึ้นนมัสการรูปเคารพแห่งวงศ์วานอิสราเอล มิได้กระทำให้ภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้านมลทิน

¹⁶neither has wronged any, has not taken anything to pledge, neither has taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

¹⁶มิได้บีบบังคับผู้ใด ไม่เรียกร้องของประกัน ไม่เคยใช้ความรุนแรงปล้นผู้ใด แต่ให้อาหารแก่ผู้หิว และให้เสื้อผ้าคลุมกายที่เปลือย

¹⁷who has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who has not received interest nor increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

¹⁷หดมือไว้มิได้เบียดเบียนคนยากจน ไม่เรียกดอกเบี้ยหรือเงินเพิ่ม กระทำตามคำตัดสินทั้งหลายของเรา และดำเนินตามกฎเกณฑ์ของเรา เขาจะไม่ตายเพราะความชั่วช้าของบิดาเขา เขาจะดำรงชีวิตอยู่แน่นอน

¹⁸As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.

¹⁸ส่วนบิดาของเขา เพราะเป็นคนหาเงินด้วยการบีบบังคับ ได้ใช้ความรุนแรงปล้นพี่น้องของตน กระทำความไม่ดีในท่ามกลางชนชาติของเขา ดูเถิด เขาก็จะต้องตายเพราะความชั่วช้าของเขา

¹⁹Yet you say, Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he shall surely live.

¹⁹แต่เจ้ายังกล่าวว่า `ทำไมบุตรชายจึงไม่สมควรรับโทษความชั่วช้าของบิดาตน' เมื่อบุตรชายได้กระทำความยุติธรรมและความชอบธรรมแล้ว และได้รักษากฎเกณฑ์ทั้งสิ้นของเรา และประพฤติตาม เขาจะดำรงชีวิตอยู่แน่นอน

²⁰The soul who sins, he shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.

²⁰ชีวิตที่กระทำบาปจะต้องตาย บุตรชายไม่ต้องรับโทษความชั่วช้าของบิดา บิดาก็ไม่ต้องรับโทษความชั่วช้าของบุตรชาย คนชอบธรรมจะรับความชอบธรรมของตัว และคนชั่วจะรับความชั่วของตน

²¹But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he has committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²¹แต่ถ้าคนชั่วคนใดหันกลับเสียจากบาปซึ่งเขาได้กระทำไปแล้ว และรักษากฎเกณฑ์ทั้งสิ้นของเรา และกระทำความยุติธรรมและความชอบธรรม เขาจะดำรงชีวิตอยู่แน่นอน เขาจะไม่ต้องตาย

²²None of his transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he has done he shall live.

²²บรรดาการละเมิดใดๆซึ่งเขาได้กระทำแล้วนั้นจะมิได้จดจำไว้เพื่อเอาโทษเขา เขาจะมีชีวิตอยู่เพราะความชอบธรรมที่เขาได้กระทำไป

²³Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? says the Lord Yahweh; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

²³องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า เรามีความพอใจในความตายของคนชั่วหรือ แต่เราพอใจให้เขากลับจากความชั่วของเขาและมีชีวิตอยู่มิใช่หรือ

²⁴But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.

²⁴แต่เมื่อคนชอบธรรมหันกลับจากความชอบธรรมของตัว และกระทำความชั่วช้า และกระทำบรรดาสิ่งที่น่าสะอิดสะเอียนเช่นเดียวกับที่คนชั่วได้กระทำ ผู้นั้นสมควรจะมีชีวิตอยู่หรือ การชอบธรรมทั้งสิ้นซึ่งเขาได้กระทำมาแล้วนั้นจะมิได้จดจำไว้อีกเลย เขาจะต้องตายด้วยการละเมิดซึ่งเขาได้กระทำไว้และบาปซึ่งเขาได้กระทำลงไป

²⁵Yet you say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?

²⁵แต่เจ้ายังกล่าวว่า `วิธีการขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ยุติธรรม' โอ วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย จงฟังเถอะ วิธีการของเราไม่ยุติธรรมหรือ วิธีการของเจ้ามิใช่หรือที่ไม่ยุติธรรม

²⁶When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies therein; in his iniquity that he has done shall he die.

²⁶เมื่อคนชอบธรรมหันกลับจากความชอบธรรมของเขาและกระทำความชั่วช้า และตายเพราะการนั้น เขาจะต้องตายด้วยเหตุความชั่วช้าที่เขาได้กระทำ

²⁷Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

²⁷และเมื่อคนชั่วหันกลับจากความชั่วที่ตนกระทำไป และกระทำความยุติธรรมและความชอบธรรม เขาก็ได้ช่วยชีวิตของเขาเองไว้

²⁸Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

²⁸เพราะเขาได้ตรึกตรองและหันกลับจากการละเมิดทั้งสิ้นซึ่งเขาได้กระทำไป เขาจะดำรงชีวิตอยู่แน่นอน เขาจะไม่ต้องตาย

²⁹Yet the house of Israel says, “The way of the Lord is not fair.” House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?

²⁹แต่วงศ์วานอิสราเอลกล่าวว่า `วิธีการขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ยุติธรรม' โอ วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย วีธีการของเราไม่ยุติธรรมหรือ วิธีการของเจ้ามิใช่หรือที่ไม่ยุติธรรม

³⁰Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways, says the Lord Yahweh. Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

³⁰องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า โอ วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย เพราะฉะนั้นเราจะพิพากษาเจ้าทุกคนตามทางประพฤติของคนนั้นๆ จงกลับใจและหันกลับเสียจากการละเมิดทั้งสิ้นของเจ้า เกรงว่าความชั่วช้าของเจ้าจะเป็นสิ่งสะดุดให้เจ้าพินาศ

³¹Cast away from you all your transgressions, in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, house of Israel?

³¹จงละทิ้งการละเมิดทั้งสิ้นซึ่งเจ้าได้ละเมิดต่อเรา จงทำตัวให้มีจิตใจใหม่และวิญญาณใหม่ โอ วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย เจ้าจะตายเสียทำไมเล่า

³²For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord Yahweh: therefore turn yourselves, and live.

³²องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า เราไม่มีความพอใจในความตายของผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดเลย จงหันกลับและดำรงชีวิตอยู่"
