¹“Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places of it, if you can find a man, if there are any who does justly, who seeks truth; and I will pardon her.

¹"จงวิ่งไปวิ่งมาอยู่ในถนนกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม บัดนี้จงมองและรับรู้ จงค้นตามลานเมืองดูทีว่า จะหามนุษย์สักคนหนึ่งได้หรือไม่ คือคนที่กระทำการยุติธรรมและแสวงหาความจริง เพื่อเราจะได้อภัยโทษให้แก่เมืองนั้น

²Though they say, ‘As Yahweh lives;’ surely they swear falsely.”

²แม้เขาทั้งหลายกล่าวว่า `ตราบใดที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่' เขาก็ยังปฏิญาณเท็จอย่างแน่นอน"

³O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

³ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ พระเนตรของพระองค์ทรงหาความจริงมิใช่หรือ พระองค์ทรงเฆี่ยนตีเขาทั้งหลาย แต่เขาก็ไม่รู้สึกสำนึก พระองค์ทรงล้างผลาญเขา แต่เขาทั้งหลายปฏิเสธไม่ยอมดีขึ้น เขาได้กระทำให้หน้าของเขากระด้างยิ่งกว่าหิน เขาปฏิเสธไม่ยอมกลับใจ

⁴Then I said, “Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they don’t know the way of Yahweh, nor the law of their God.

⁴แล้วข้าพเจ้าจึงทูลว่า "แน่นอนคนเหล่านี้เป็นแต่คนต้อยต่ำ เขาเหล่านี้โง่เขลา เพราะเขาไม่รู้จักพระมรรคาของพระเยโฮวาห์ ไม่รู้จักคำตัดสินของพระเจ้าของเขา

⁵I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they know the way of Yahweh, and the law of their God.” But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

⁵ข้าพระองค์จะไปหาพวกผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ และจะพูดกับเขาทั้งหลาย เพราะเขารู้จักพระมรรคาของพระเยโฮวาห์ และรู้จักคำตัดสินของพระเจ้าของเขา" แต่เขาทั้งหลายทุกคนก็ได้หักแอกเสีย เขาทั้งหลายได้ระเบิดพันธนะเสีย

⁶Therefore a lion out of the forest shall kill them, a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them, a leopard shall watch against their cities; everyone who goes out there shall be torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, and their backsliding is increased.

⁶เพราะฉะนั้น สิงโตจากป่าจะมาสังหารเขา สุนัขป่ายามสนธยาจะทำลายเขา เสือดาวจะเฝ้าหัวเมืองทั้งหลายของเขา ทุกคนที่ไปจากเมืองเหล่านั้นจะถูกฉีกเป็นชิ้นๆ เพราะว่าความละเมิดของเขามากมาย การกลับสัตย์ของเขาก็ใหญ่ยิ่ง

⁷“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes’ houses.

⁷"เราจะให้อภัยเจ้าได้อย่างไร ลูกหลานของเจ้าได้ละทิ้งเราแล้ว และได้อ้างผู้ที่ไม่ใช่พระในการทำสัตย์ปฏิญาณ เมื่อเราเลี้ยงเขาให้อิ่ม เขาก็ทำการล่วงประเวณี แล้วก็ยกขบวนกันไปที่เรือนของหญิงแพศยา

⁸They were as fed horses roaming at large: everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

⁸เขาทั้งหลายเหมือนม้าที่กินอิ่มในตอนเช้า ทุกคนก็ร้องหาภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้าน"

⁹Shouldn’t I punish them for these things?” says Yahweh; “and shouldn’t my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁹พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "เพราะสิ่งอย่างนี้เราจะไม่ทำโทษเขาหรือ และจิตใจเราไม่ควรที่จะแก้แค้นประชาชาติที่เป็นอย่างนี้หรือ

¹⁰“Go up on her walls, and destroy; but don’t make a full end. Take away her branches; for they are not Yahweh’s.

¹⁰ขึ้นไปตามกำแพงของมันและทำลายเสีย แต่อย่าไปถึงอวสานทีเดียว เอาเชิงเทินของมันออก เพราะนั่นไม่ใช่เป็นของพระเยโฮวาห์

¹¹For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me,” says Yahweh.

¹¹เพราะวงศ์วานของอิสราเอลและวงศ์วานของยูดาห์ได้ทรยศต่อเราอย่างสิ้นเชิงแล้ว" พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ

¹²They have denied Yahweh, and said, “It is not he; neither shall evil come on us; neither shall we see sword nor famine.

¹²เขาทั้งหลายพูดมุสาในเรื่องพระเยโฮวาห์ และได้กล่าวว่า "พระองค์มิได้ทรงกระทำประการใด ไม่มีการร้ายอันใดจะเกิดขึ้นแก่เรา เราก็จะไม่เห็นดาบหรือการกันดารอาหาร

¹³The prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them.”

¹³ผู้พยากรณ์ก็จะเป็นแต่ลมๆ พระวจนะไม่มีในคนเหล่านั้น ขอให้เป็นอย่างนั้นแก่เขาเถิด"

¹⁴Therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, “Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

¹⁴เพราะฉะนั้น พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าจอมโยธาจึงตรัสดังนี้ว่า "เพราะเจ้าทั้งหลายกล่าวถ้อยคำเหล่านี้ ดูเถิด เราจะทำถ้อยคำของเราที่อยู่ในปากของเจ้าให้เป็นไฟ และชนชาตินี้เป็นฟืน และไฟนั้นจะเผาผลาญเขาเสีย

¹⁵Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far, house of Israel,” says Yahweh. “It is a mighty nation. It is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don’t know, neither understand what they say.

¹⁵ดูเถิด วงศ์วานของอิสราเอลเอ๋ย เราจะนำประชาชาติจากแดนไกลมาสู้เจ้าทั้งหลาย" พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ "เป็นประชาชาติที่มีอำนาจใหญ่โต เป็นประชาชาติดึกดำบรรพ์ เป็นประชาชาติที่เจ้าไม่รู้ภาษาของเขา เขาจะพูดอะไรเจ้าก็ไม่เข้าใจ

¹⁶Their quiver is an open tomb, they are all mighty men.

¹⁶แล่งธนูของเขาเหมือนอุโมงค์เปิด เขาเป็นทแกล้วทหารทุกคน

¹⁷They shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat. They shall eat up your flocks and your herds. They shall eat up your vines and your fig trees. They shall beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword.

¹⁷เขาจะกินซึ่งเจ้าเกี่ยวได้ และกินอาหารของเจ้าเสีย ซึ่งบุตรชายและบุตรสาวของเจ้าควรจะได้กิน เขาจะกินฝูงแกะฝูงวัวของเจ้าเสีย เขาจะกินเถาองุ่นและต้นมะเดื่อของเจ้าเสีย เขาจะทำลายตัวเมืองที่มีป้อมของเจ้า ซึ่งเจ้าวางใจนั้นเสียด้วยดาบ"

¹⁸“But even in those days,” says Yahweh, “I will not make a full end with you.

¹⁸พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "ถึงแม้ว่าในวันเหล่านั้น เราก็ยังไม่กระทำแก่เจ้าให้ถึงอวสาน

¹⁹It will happen, when you say, ‘Why has Yahweh our God done all these things to us?’ Then you shall say to them, ‘Just like you have forsaken me, and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve strangers in a land that is not yours.’

¹⁹และต่อมาเมื่อเจ้าทั้งหลายจะกล่าวว่า `ทำไมพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเราทั้งหลายจึงกระทำบรรดาสิ่งเหล่านี้แก่เรา' เจ้าจะกล่าวแก่เขาว่า `เจ้าได้ละทิ้งเราไปปรนนิบัติพระต่างด้าวในแผ่นดินของเจ้าฉันใด เจ้าจะต้องไปปรนนิบัติคนต่างชาติในแผ่นดินซึ่งไม่ใช่ของเจ้าฉันนั้น'

²⁰“Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

²⁰จงประกาศข้อความต่อไปนี้ในวงศ์วานของยาโคบ และจงโฆษณาเรื่องนี้ในยูดาห์ ว่า

²¹‘Hear now this, foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and don’t see; who have ears, and don’t hear:

²¹ชนชาติที่โง่เขลาและไร้ความเข้าใจเอ๋ย ผู้มีตา แต่มองไม่เห็น ผู้มีหู แต่ฟังไม่ได้ยิน จงฟังข้อความนี้"

²²Don’t you fear me?’ says Yahweh ‘Won’t you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can’t pass it? and though its waves toss themselves, yet they can’t prevail; though they roar, yet they can’t pass over it.’

²²พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า "เจ้าไม่ยำเกรงเราหรือ เจ้าไม่ตัวสั่นอยู่ต่อหน้าเราหรือ คือเราผู้วางกองทรายไว้เป็นเขตล้อมทะเล เป็นเครื่องกีดขวางเป็นนิตย์มิให้ผ่านไปได้ แม้ว่าคลื่นจะซัด ก็เอาชนะไม่ได้ แม้คลื่นจะคะนอง ก็ข้ามไปไม่ได้

²³“But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart; they have revolted and gone.

²³แต่ชนชาตินี้มีใจดื้อดึงและกบฏ เขาได้หันเหและจากไปเสีย

²⁴Neither do they say in their heart, ‘Let us now fear Yahweh our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season; who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.’

²⁴ข้อความนี้เขาไม่มุ่งอยู่ในใจของเขาทั้งหลายว่า `บัดนี้ให้เรายำเกรงพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเรา ผู้ทรงประทานฝนตามฤดูของมันคือฝนต้นฤดูและฝนชุกปลายฤดู และทรงรักษาสัปดาห์ที่กำหนดการเกี่ยวข้าวไว้ให้แก่เรา'

²⁵“Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.

²⁵ความชั่วช้าของเจ้าได้กระทำให้สิ่งเหล่านี้หันไปเสีย และบาปของเจ้าทั้งหลายก็กันสิ่งที่ดีไว้เสียจากเจ้า

²⁶For among my people are found wicked men. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.

²⁶เพราะท่ามกลางประชาชนของเราจะพบคนชั่ว เขาซุ่มคอยเหมือนคนดักนกซุ่มอยู่ เขาวางกับไว้ เขาดักคน

²⁷As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.

²⁷เรือนของเขาเต็มด้วยความหลอกลวงเหมือนกระจาดที่มีนกเต็ม เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจึงใหญ่โตและมั่งมี

²⁸They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excell in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t judge the right of the needy.

²⁸เขาจึงอ้วนพีจนตัวเกลี้ยงเกลา ในเรื่องการกระทำความชั่วเขาล้ำหน้า เขามิได้ตัดสินคดี คือคดีของลูกกำพร้าพ่อ ด้วยความยุติธรรม ถึงกระนั้นเขาก็เจริญ เขามิได้ป้องกันสิทธิของคนขัดสน"

²⁹“Shall I not punish for these things?” says Yahweh. “Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

²⁹พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "เพราะสิ่งอย่างนี้เราจะไม่ทำโทษเขาหรือ และไม่ควรที่จิตใจเราจะแก้แค้นประชาชาติที่เป็นอย่างนี้หรือ

³⁰“An astonishing and horrible thing has happened in the land.

³⁰สิ่งที่น่าตกตะลึงและน่าหวาดเสียวได้เกิดขึ้นในแผ่นดินนี้

³¹The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will you do in the end of it?

³¹คือผู้พยากรณ์ได้พยากรณ์เท็จ และบรรดาปุโรหิตก็ปกครองตามการชี้นิ้วของเขา และประชาชนของเราชอบที่มีการอย่างนี้ แต่เจ้าทั้งหลายจะกระทำอะไรเมื่อกาลสุดปลายมาถึง"
