1The word of Yahweh came to Jonah the second time, saying,
1แล้วพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์มาถึงโยนาห์เป็นคำรบสองว่า
2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”
2"จงลุกขึ้นไปยังนีนะเวห์นครใหญ่ และประกาศข่าวแก่เมืองนั้นตามที่เราบอกเจ้า"
3So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.
3ดังนั้นโยนาห์จึงลุกขึ้นไปยังนีนะเวห์ ตามพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ ฝ่ายนีนะเวห์เป็นนครใหญ่โตมากทีเดียว ถ้าจะเดินข้ามเมืองก็กินเวลาสามวัน
4Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”
4โยนาห์ตั้งต้นเดินเข้าไปในเมืองได้ระยะทางเดินวันหนึ่ง และท่านก็ร้องประกาศว่า "อีกสี่สิบวัน นีนะเวห์จะถูกคว่ำ"
5The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.
5ฝ่ายประชาชนนครนีนะเวห์ได้เชื่อพระเจ้า เขาประกาศให้อดอาหาร และสวมผ้ากระสอบ ตั้งแต่ผู้ใหญ่ที่สุดถึงผู้น้อยที่สุด
6The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
6กิตติศัพท์นี้ลือไปถึงกษัตริย์นครนีนะเวห์ พระองค์ทรงลุกขึ้นจากพระที่นั่ง ทรงเปลื้องฉลองพระองค์ออกเสีย ทรงสวมผ้ากระสอบแทน และประทับบนกองขี้เถ้า
7He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;
7พระองค์ทรงออกพระราชกฤษฎีกา ประกาศไปทั่วนครนีนะเวห์ โดยอำนาจกษัตริย์และบรรดาขุนนางทั้งหลายว่า "คนหรือสัตว์ ไม่ว่าฝูงสัตว์ใหญ่หรือฝูงสัตว์เล็ก ห้ามลิ้มรสสิ่งใดๆ อย่าให้กินอาหาร อย่าให้ดื่มน้ำ
8but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.
8ให้ทั้งคนและสัตว์นุ่งห่มผ้ากระสอบ ให้ตั้งจิตตั้งใจร้องทูลต่อพระเจ้า เออ ให้ทุกคนหันกลับเสียจากการประพฤติชั่ว และเลิกการทารุณซึ่งมือเขากระทำ
9Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”
9ใครจะรู้ได้พระเจ้าอาจจะทรงกลับและเปลี่ยนพระทัย คลายจากพระพิโรธอันรุนแรงเพื่อว่าเราจะมิได้พินาศ"
10God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.
10เมื่อพระเจ้าทอดพระเนตรการกระทำของเขาแล้วว่า เขากลับไม่ประพฤติชั่วต่อไป พระเจ้าก็ทรงกลับพระทัยไม่ลงโทษตามที่พระองค์ตรัสไว้ และพระองค์ก็มิได้ทรงลงโทษเขา
