¹Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,

¹ครั้งนั้นพระเยซูตรัสกับฝูงชนและพวกสาวกของพระองค์

²saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sat on Moses’ seat.

²ว่า "พวกธรรมาจารย์กับพวกฟาริสีนั่งบนที่นั่งของโมเสส

³ All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.

³เหตุฉะนั้นทุกสิ่งซึ่งเขาสั่งสอนพวกท่าน จงถือประพฤติตาม เว้นแต่การประพฤติของเขา อย่าได้ทำตามเลย เพราะเขาเป็นแต่ผู้สั่งสอน แต่เขาเองหาทำตามไม่

⁴ For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.

⁴ด้วยเขาเอาของหนักและแบกยากวางบนบ่ามนุษย์ ส่วนเขาเองแม้แต่นิ้วเดียวก็ไม่จับต้องเลย

⁵ But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries phylacteries (tefillin in Hebrew) are small leather pouches that some Jewish men wear on their forehead and arm in prayer. They are used to carry a small scroll with some Scripture in it. See Deuteronomy 6:8. broad, enlarge the fringes or, tassels of their garments,

⁵การกระทำของเขาเป็นการอวดเท่านั้น เขาใช้กลักพระบัญญัติอย่างใหญ่ สวมเสื้อที่มีพู่ห้อยอันยาว

⁶ and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,

⁶เขาชอบที่อันมีเกียรติในการเลี้ยงและที่นั่งตำแหน่งสูงในธรรมศาลา

⁷ the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.

⁷กับชอบรับการคำนับที่กลางตลาด และชอบให้คนเรียกเขาว่า `รับบี รับบี'

⁸ But don’t you be called ‘Rabbi,’ for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.

⁸ท่านทั้งหลายอย่าให้ใครเรียกท่านว่า `รับบี' ด้วยท่านมีพระอาจารย์แต่ผู้เดียวคือพระคริสต์ และท่านทั้งหลายเป็นพี่น้องกันทั้งหมด

⁹ Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.

⁹และอย่าเรียกผู้ใดในโลกว่าเป็นบิดา เพราะท่านมีพระบิดาแต่ผู้เดียว คือผู้ที่ทรงสถิตในสวรรค์

¹⁰ Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.

¹⁰อย่าให้ผู้ใดเรียกท่านว่า `นาย' ด้วยว่านายของท่านมีแต่ผู้เดียวคือพระคริสต์

¹¹ But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.

¹¹ผู้ใดที่เป็นใหญ่ที่สุดในพวกท่าน ผู้นั้นจะเป็นผู้รับใช้ท่านทั้งหลาย

¹² Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

¹²ผู้ใดจะยกตัวขึ้น ผู้นั้นจะต้องถูกเหยียดลง ผู้ใดถ่อมตัวลง ผู้นั้นจะได้รับการยกขึ้น

¹³ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

¹³วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด เพราะพวกเจ้าปิดประตูอาณาจักรแห่งสวรรค์ไว้จากมนุษย์ พวกเจ้าเองก็ไม่เข้าไป และเมื่อคนอื่นจะเข้าไป พวกเจ้าก็ขัดขวางไว้

¹⁴ “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter. Some Greek manuscripts reverse the order of verses 13 and 14, and some omit verse 13, numbering verse 14 as 13.

¹⁴วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด ด้วยพวกเจ้าริบเอาเรือนของหญิงม่าย และแสร้งอธิษฐานเสียยืดยาว เพราะฉะนั้นพวกเจ้าจะต้องมีโทษมากยิ่งขึ้น

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much of a son of Gehenna or, Hell as yourselves.

¹⁵วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด ด้วยพวกเจ้าเที่ยวไปตามทางทะเลและทางบกทั่วไปเพื่อจะได้แม้แต่คนเดียวเข้าจารีต เมื่อได้แล้วก็ทำให้เขาเป็นลูกแห่งนรกยิ่งกว่าเจ้าเองถึงสองเท่า

¹⁶ “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’

¹⁶วิบัติแก่เจ้า คนนำทางตาบอด เจ้าสอนว่า `ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างพระวิหาร คำปฏิญาณนั้นไม่ผูกมัด แต่ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างทองคำของพระวิหาร ผู้นั้นจะต้องกระทำตามคำปฏิญาณ'

¹⁷ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?

¹⁷โอ คนโฉดเขลาตาบอด สิ่งไหนจะสำคัญกว่า ทองคำหรือพระวิหารซึ่งกระทำให้ทองคำนั้นศักดิ์สิทธิ์

¹⁸ ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?’

¹⁸และว่า `ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างแท่นบูชา คำปฏิญาณนั้นไม่ผูกมัด แต่ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างเครื่องตั้งถวายบนแท่นบูชานั้น ผู้นั้นต้องกระทำตามคำปฏิญาณ'

¹⁹ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?

¹⁹โอ คนโฉดเขลาตาบอด สิ่งใดจะสำคัญกว่า เครื่องตั้งถวายหรือแท่นบูชาที่กระทำให้เครื่องตั้งถวายนั้นศักดิ์สิทธิ์

²⁰ He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by everything on it.

²⁰เหตุฉะนี้ ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างแท่นบูชา ก็ปฏิญาณอ้างแท่นบูชาและสิ่งสารพัดซึ่งอยู่บนแท่นบูชานั้น

²¹ He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who was living NU reads “lives” in it.

²¹ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างพระวิหาร ก็ปฏิญาณอ้างพระวิหารและอ้างพระองค์ผู้ทรงสถิตในพระวิหารนั้น

²² He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.

²²ผู้ใดจะปฏิญาณอ้างสวรรค์ ก็ปฏิญาณอ้างพระที่นั่งของพระเจ้าและอ้างพระองค์ผู้ประทับบนพระที่นั่งนั้น

²³ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, cumin is an aromatic seed from Cuminum cyminum, resembling caraway in flavor and appearance. It is used as a spice. and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.

²³วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด ด้วยพวกเจ้าถวายสิบชักหนึ่งของสะระแหน่ ยี่หร่าและขมิ้น ส่วนข้อสำคัญแห่งพระราชบัญญัติ คือการพิพากษา ความเมตตาและความเชื่อนั้นได้ละเว้นเสีย สิ่งเหล่านั้นพวกเจ้าควรได้กระทำอยู่แล้ว แต่สิ่งอื่นนั้นไม่ควรละเว้นด้วย

²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!

²⁴โอ คนนำทางตาบอด เจ้ากรองลูกน้ำออก แต่กลืนตัวอูฐเข้าไป

²⁵ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness. TR reads “self-indulgence” instead of “unrighteousness”

²⁵วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด ด้วยเจ้าขัดชำระถ้วยชามแต่ภายนอก ส่วนภายในถ้วยชามนั้นเต็มด้วยโจรกรรมและการมัวเมากิเลส

²⁶ You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.

²⁶โอ พวกฟาริสีตาบอด จงชำระถ้วยชามภายในเสียก่อน เพื่อข้างนอกจะได้สะอาดด้วย

²⁷ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

²⁷วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด เพราะว่าเจ้าเป็นเหมือนอุโมงค์ฝังศพซึ่งฉาบด้วยปูนขาว ข้างนอกดูงดงาม แต่ข้างในเต็มไปด้วยกระดูกคนตายและสารพัดโสโครก

²⁸ Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

²⁸เจ้าทั้งหลายก็เป็นอย่างนั้นแหละ ภายนอกแลดูเหมือนว่าเป็นคนชอบธรรม แต่ภายในเต็มไปด้วยความหน้าซื่อใจคดและความชั่วช้า

²⁹ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the tombs of the righteous,

²⁹วิบัติแก่เจ้า พวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี คนหน้าซื่อใจคด ด้วยพวกเจ้าก่อสร้างอุโมงค์ฝังศพของพวกศาสดาพยากรณ์ และตกแต่งอุโมงค์ฝังศพของผู้ชอบธรรมให้งดงาม

³⁰ and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’

³⁰แล้วกล่าวว่า `ถ้าเราได้อยู่ในสมัยบรรพบุรุษของเรานั้น จะได้มีส่วนกับเขาในการทำโลหิตของพวกศาสดาพยากรณ์ให้ตกก็หามิได้'

³¹ Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.

³¹อย่างนั้นเจ้าทั้งหลายก็เป็นพยานปรักปรำตนเองว่า เจ้าเป็นบุตรของผู้ที่ได้ฆ่าศาสดาพยากรณ์เหล่านั้น

³² Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.

³²เจ้าทั้งหลายจงกระทำตามที่บรรพบุรุษได้กระทำนั้นให้ครบถ้วนเถิด

³³ You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna or, Hell ?

³³โอ พวกงู เจ้าชาติงูร้าย เจ้าจะพ้นโทษนรกอย่างไรได้

³⁴ Therefore behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;

³⁴เหตุฉะนั้น ดูเถิด เราใช้พวกศาสดาพยากรณ์ พวกนักปราชญ์ และพวกธรรมาจารย์ต่างๆไปหาพวกเจ้า เจ้าก็ฆ่าเสียบ้าง ตรึงเสียที่กางเขนบ้าง เฆี่ยนตีในธรรมศาลาของเจ้าบ้าง ข่มเหงไล่ออกจากเมืองนี้ไปเมืองโน้นบ้าง

³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.

³⁵ดังนั้นบรรดาโลหิตอันชอบธรรมซึ่งตกที่แผ่นดินโลก ตั้งแต่โลหิตของอาแบลผู้ชอบธรรมจนถึงโลหิตของเศคาริยาห์บุตรชายบารัคยา ที่พวกเจ้าได้ฆ่าเสียในระหว่างพระวิหารกับแท่นบูชานั้น คงตกบนพวกเจ้าทั้งหลาย

³⁶ Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.

³⁶เราบอกความจริงแก่เจ้าทั้งหลายว่า บรรดาสิ่งเหล่านี้จะตกกับคนสมัยนี้

³⁷ “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!

³⁷โอ เยรูซาเล็มๆ ที่ได้ฆ่าบรรดาศาสดาพยากรณ์ และเอาหินขว้างผู้ที่รับใช้มาหาเจ้าถึงตาย เราใคร่จะรวบรวมลูกของเจ้าไว้เนืองๆ เหมือนแม่ไก่กกลูกอยู่ใต้ปีกของมัน แต่เจ้าไม่ยอมเลยหนอ

³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate.

³⁸ดูเถิด `บ้านเมืองของเจ้าจะถูกละทิ้งให้รกร้างแก่เจ้า'

³⁹ For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’” Psalm 118:26

³⁹ด้วยเราว่าแก่เจ้าทั้งหลายว่า เจ้าจะไม่เห็นเราอีกจนกว่าเจ้าจะกล่าวว่า `ขอให้พระองค์ผู้เสด็จมาในพระนามขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงพระเจริญ'"
