¹Then the Pharisees, and some of the scribes gathered together to him, having come from Jerusalem.

¹Bấy giờ các người Pha-ri-si và mấy thầy thông giáo từ thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đến, nhóm lại cùng Ðức Chúa Jêsus,

²Now when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands, they found fault.

²thấy một vài môn đồ Ngài dùng tay chưa tinh sạch mà ăn, nghĩa là không rửa tay.

³(For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, don’t eat unless they wash their hands and forearms, holding to the tradition of the elders.

³Vả, người Pha-ri-si và người Giu-đa thường giữ lời truyền khẩu của người xưa, nếu không rửa tay cẩn thận thì không ăn;

⁴They don’t eat when they come from the marketplace, unless they bathe themselves, and there are many other things, which they have received to hold to: washings of cups, pitchers, bronze vessels, and couches.)

⁴khi họ ở chợ về, nếu không rửa cũng không ăn. Họ lại còn theo lời truyền khẩu mà giữ nhiều sự khác nữa, như rửa chén và bình bằng đất hoặc bằng đồng.

⁵The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why don’t your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?”

⁵Vậy, các người Pha-ri-si và các thầy thông giáo hỏi Ngài rằng: Sao môn đồ thầy không giữ lời truyền khẩu của người xưa, dùng tay chưa tinh sạch mà ăn như vậy?

⁶He answered them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

⁶Ngài đáp rằng: Hỡi kẻ giả hình, Ê-sai đã nói tiên tri về việc các ngươi phải lắm, như có chép rằng: Dân nầy lấy môi miếng thờ kính ta; Nhưng lòng chúng nó xa ta lắm.

⁷ But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ Isaiah 29:13

⁷Sự chúng nó thờ lạy ta là vô ích, Vì chúng nó dạy theo những điều răn mà chỉ bởi người ta đặt ra.

⁸ “For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things.”

⁸Các ngươi bỏ điều răn của Ðức Chúa Trời, mà giữ lời truyền khẩu của loài người!

⁹He said to them, “Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.

⁹Ngài cũng phán cùng họ rằng: Các ngươi bỏ hẳn điều răn của Ðức Chúa Trời, đặng giữ theo lời truyền khẩu của mình.

¹⁰ For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother;’ Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16 and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’ Exodus 21:17; Leviticus 20:9

¹⁰Vì Môi-se có nói: Hãy tôn kính cha mẹ ngươi; lại nói: Ai rủa sả cha mẹ, thì phải bị giết.

¹¹ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban Corban is a Hebrew word for an offering devoted to God. , that is to say, given to God”;’

¹¹Nhưng các ngươi nói rằng: Nếu ai nói với cha hay mẹ mình rằng: Mọi điều tôi sẽ giúp cha mẹ được, thì đã là co-ban (nghĩa là sự dâng cho Ðức Chúa Trời),

¹² then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,

¹²vậy người ấy không được phép giúp cha mẹ mình sự gì nữa;

¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this.”

¹³dường ấy, các ngươi lấy lời truyền khẩu mình lập ra mà bỏ mất lời Ðức Chúa Trời. Các ngươi còn làm nhiều việc khác nữa giống như vậy.

¹⁴He called all the multitude to himself, and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand.

¹⁴Bấy giờ, Ngài lại kêu đoàn dân mà phán rằng: Các ngươi ai nấy hãy nghe ta và hiểu:

¹⁵ There is nothing from outside of the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.

¹⁵Chẳng sự gì từ ngoài vào trong cơ thể làm dơ dáy người được; nhưng sự gì từ trong người ra, đó là sự làm dơ dáy người.

¹⁶ If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”

¹⁶Nếu ai có tai mà nghe, hãy nghe.

¹⁷When he had entered into a house away from the multitude, his disciples asked him about the parable.

¹⁷Khi Ngài vào trong nhà, cách xa đoàn dân rồi, môn đồ hỏi Ngài về lời thí dụ ấy.

¹⁸He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Don’t you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside can’t defile him,

¹⁸Ngài phán rằng: Vậy chớ các ngươi cũng không có trí khôn sao? Chưa hiểu chẳng có sự gì ở ngoài vào trong người mà làm dơ dáy người được sao?

¹⁹ because it doesn’t go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, thus purifying all foods or, making all foods clean ?”

¹⁹Vả, sự đó không vào lòng người, nhưng vào bụng, rồi bị bỏ ra nơi kín đáo, như vậy làm cho mọi đồ ăn được sạch.

²⁰He said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.

²⁰Vậy, Ngài phán: Hễ sự gì từ người ra, đó là sự làm dơ dáy người!

²¹ For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,

²¹Vì thật là tự trong, tự lòng người mà ra những ác tưởng, sự dâm dục, trộm cướp, giết người,

²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.

²²tà dâm, tham lam, hung ác, gian dối, hoang đàng, con mắt ganh đố, lộng ngôn, kiêu ngạo, điên cuồng.

²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”

²³Hết thảy những điều xấu ấy ra từ trong lòng thì làm cho dơ dáy người.

²⁴From there he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house, and didn’t want anyone to know it, but he couldn’t escape notice.

²⁴Ðoạn, Ngài từ đó đi đến bờ cõi thành Ty-rơ và thành Si-đôn. Ngài vào một cái nhà, không muốn cho ai biết mình, song không thể ẩn được.

²⁵For a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.

²⁵Vì có một người đờn bà, con gái người bị tà ma ám, đã nghe nói về Ngài, tức thì vào gieo mình dưới chơn Ngài.

²⁶Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.

²⁶Ðờn bà ấy là người Gờ-réc, dân Sy-rô-phê-ni-xi. Người xin Ngài đuổi quỉ ra khỏi con gái mình.

²⁷But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

²⁷Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán cùng người rằng: Hãy để con cái ăn no nê trước đã; vì không lẽ lấy bánh của con cái quăng cho chó.

²⁸But she answered him, “Yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

²⁸Song người đáp lại rằng: Lạy Chúa, hẳn vậy rồi; nhưng mà chó dưới bàn ăn mấy miếng bánh vụn của con cái.

²⁹He said to her, “For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

²⁹Ngài bèn phán: Hãy đi, vì lời ấy, quỉ đã ra khỏi con gái ngươi rồi.

³⁰She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.

³⁰Khi người trở về nhà, thấy đứa trẻ nằm trên giường, và quỉ đã bị đuổi khỏi.

³¹Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the region of Decapolis.

³¹Ðức Chúa Jêsus lìa bờ cõi thành Ty-rơ, qua thành Si-đôn và trải địa phận Ðê-ca-bô-lơ, đến biển Ga-li-lê.

³²They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him.

³²Người ta đem một người điếc và ngọng đến cùng Ngài, xin Ngài đặt tay trên người.

³³He took him aside from the multitude, privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue.

³³Ngài đem riêng người ra, cách xa đám đông, rồi để ngón tay vào lỗ tai người, và thấm nước miếng xức lưỡi người.

³⁴Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”

³⁴Ðoạn Ngài ngửa mặt lên trời, thở ra mà phán cùng người rằng: Ép-pha-ta! nghĩa là: Hãy mở ra!

³⁵Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was released, and he spoke clearly.

³⁵Tức thì tai được mở ra, lưỡi được thong thả, người nói rõ ràng.

³⁶He commanded them that they should tell no one, but the more he commanded them, so much the more widely they proclaimed it.

³⁶Ðức Chúa Jêsus cấm chúng chớ nói điều đó cùng ai; song Ngài càng cấm người ta lại càng nói đến nữa.

³⁷They were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He makes even the deaf hear, and the mute speak!”

³⁷Chúng lại lấy làm lạ quá đỗi mà rằng: Ngài làm mọi việc được tốt lành: khiến kẻ điếc nghe, kẻ câm nói vậy!
