¹To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

¹　神規劃萬事叫人敬畏他萬事都有定期，天下萬務都有定時：

²A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

²生有時，死有時；栽種有時，拔出所種的也有時；

³A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

³殺戮有時，醫治有時；拆毀有時，建造有時；

⁴A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

⁴哭有時，笑有時；哀慟有時，踴躍有時；

⁵A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

⁵拋擲石頭有時，堆聚石頭有時；擁抱有時，避免擁抱有時；

⁶A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

⁶尋找有時，捨棄有時；保存有時，拋棄有時；

⁷A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

⁷撕裂有時，縫補有時；靜默有時，講話有時；

⁸A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

⁸愛有時，恨有時；戰爭有時，和平有時。

⁹What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

⁹作工的人在自己的勞碌上得到甚麼益處呢？

¹⁰I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

¹⁰我看　神給予世人的擔子，是要他們為此煩惱。

¹¹He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

¹¹他使萬事各按其時，成為美好；他又把永恆的意識放在人的心裡；雖然這樣，人還是不能察覺　神自始至終的作為。

¹²I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

¹²我曉得人生最好是尋樂享福，

¹³And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

¹³人人有吃有喝，在自己的一切勞碌中自得其樂；這就是　神的恩賜。

¹⁴I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

¹⁴我知道　神所作的一切，都必永存，無可增添，無可減少；　神這樣作，為要使人在他面前存敬畏的心。

¹⁵That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

¹⁵現在有的，先前就有；將來有的，早已有了；因為　神使已過的事重新出現（“　神使已過的事重新出現”原文作“　神尋回已過的事”）。

¹⁶And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

¹⁶　神的審判都有定時我在日光之下又看見：審判的地方有奸惡，維護公義的地方也有奸惡。

¹⁷I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

¹⁷我自己心裡說：“　神必審判義人和惡人，因為各樣事務、各樣工作都有定時。”

¹⁸I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

¹⁸我自己心裡說：“至於世人，　神要試驗他們，使他們看見自己與牲畜無異。

¹⁹For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

¹⁹因為世人所遭遇的與牲畜所遭遇的，都是一樣：這個怎樣死，那個也怎樣死，兩者的氣息都是一樣，所以人並不勝於牲畜。一切都是虛空。

²⁰All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

²⁰大家都到一個地方去，都出於塵土，也都歸回塵土。

²¹Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

²¹有誰知道人的靈是往上升，牲畜的魂（“魂”的原文與“靈”〔3:21〕和“氣息”〔3:19〕相同）是下降而入地呢？”

²²Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

²²因此我看人最好是在自己所作的事上自得其樂，因為這也是他的分；誰能使他看見他自己死後的事呢？
