¹When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

¹不可貪吃，當求智慧你與官長一起坐席吃飯的時候，要特別留意在你面前的是誰。

²And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

²你若是個貪吃的人，就當把刀子放在喉嚨上。

³Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

³不可貪戀他的美食，因為那是騙人的食物。

⁴Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

⁴不要勞碌求富，你要明智地放下這企圖。

⁵Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

⁵你的眼睛注視在錢財上，錢財卻不見了，因為錢財必長起翅膀，如鷹飛往天上。

⁶Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

⁶不可吃吝嗇人的飯，也不可貪戀他的美食。

⁷For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

⁷因為他心裡怎樣計算，他的為人就是怎樣；他雖然對你說：“請吃，請喝！”他的心裡卻沒有你。

⁸The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

⁸你所吃的那一點食物，必要吐出來，你道謝的美言，也都白費了。

⁹Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

⁹不要說話給愚昧人聽，因為他必藐視你明慧的言語。

¹⁰Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

¹⁰你不可遷移古時的地界；也不可侵佔孤兒的田地。

¹¹For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

¹¹因為他們的救贖主大有能力，他必向你為他們的案件伸冤。

¹²Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

¹²你要專心領受教訓，留心聽知識的言語。

¹³Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

¹³要管教孩童，不可姑息，你雖然用杖打他，他也不會死；

¹⁴Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

¹⁴你要用杖打他，就可以救他的靈魂免下陰間。

¹⁵My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

¹⁵我兒，如果你的心有智慧，我的心也就歡喜；

¹⁶Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

¹⁶你的嘴唇說正直話的時候，我的內心就歡樂。

¹⁷Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

¹⁷你的心不要嫉妒罪人，只要時常敬畏耶和華。

¹⁸For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

¹⁸因為萬事必有結局，你的盼望也不會斷絕。

¹⁹Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

¹⁹我兒，你要聽，要有智慧，要引導你的心走在正路上。

²⁰Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

²⁰酗酒的人，不可與他們來往；暴食的人，不要與他們為友。

²¹For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

²¹因為酗酒暴食的人必致窮乏；貪睡的人必穿破衣。

²²Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

²²你要聽從生你的父親；也不可因為母親老了，就藐視她。

²³Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

²³你要買真理，不可出賣；要得智慧、教訓和哲理。

²⁴The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

²⁴義人的父親必大有快樂；生下智慧的兒子的，必因兒子歡喜。

²⁵Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

²⁵要使你的父母歡喜，使生下你的快樂。

²⁶My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

²⁶我兒，把你的心給我；你的眼目要關注我的道路。

²⁷For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

²⁷因為妓女是深坑，淫婦是狹窄的井。

²⁸She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

²⁸她像強盜一樣埋伏，使人間增添很多奸詐的人。

²⁹Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

²⁹誰有禍患？誰有愁苦？誰有紛爭？誰有怨言？誰無故受傷？誰的眼睛赤紅？

³⁰They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

³⁰就是那些沉湎於酒，常去品嘗調和美酒的人。

³¹Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

³¹你不要看酒怎樣發紅，在杯中怎樣閃爍誘人，喝下去怎樣舒暢，

³²At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

³²最後它卻像咬你的蛇、像刺你的毒蛇。

³³Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

³³你的眼睛必看見怪異的事，你的心必說乖謬的話。

³⁴Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

³⁴你必好像躺在海中，又好像躺在桅杆頂上。

³⁵They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

³⁵你必說：“人打我，我不痛；人鞭打我，我不曉得；我甚麼時候清醒？我還要再去尋酒。”
