²It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

²把事隱藏，是　神的榮耀；把事察清，是君王的光榮。

³The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

³人不知天有多高，地有多厚，君王的心也照樣測不透。

⁴Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

⁴除去銀子的渣滓，銀匠就可以做出器皿；

⁵Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

⁵除去君王面前的壞人，他的王位就可以靠公義堅立。

⁶Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

⁶你在君王面前，不可妄自尊大；也不可擅自站立在大人物中間。

⁷For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

⁷寧可讓人對你說：“請上座！”勝過在你覲見的顯貴面前，被人叫你退下去。

⁸Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

⁸不可輕率出去與人爭訟；否則，你的鄰舍若使你受辱，結果你要怎麼辦呢？

⁹Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

⁹如果有紛爭，只與你的鄰舍一人爭論好了；不可揭發別人的祕密，

¹⁰Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

¹⁰恐怕聽見的人辱罵你，你的惡名就不能脫掉。

¹¹A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

¹¹一句話說得合宜，就像金蘋果鑲在銀的器物上。

¹²As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

¹²智慧人的責備在聽從的人耳中，好像金耳環和精金的飾物。

¹³As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

¹³忠信的使者對那些差遣他的人來說，好像在收割的時候，有冰雪的涼氣，使主人精神舒暢。

¹⁴Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

¹⁴空誇送禮卻沒有實行的人，就像無雨的風雲。

¹⁵By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

¹⁵恆久忍耐可以勸服掌權的人，柔和的舌頭，可以折斷骨頭。

¹⁶Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

¹⁶你找到蜂蜜，吃夠就好了；免得吃得過多，就嘔吐出來。

¹⁷Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

¹⁷你的腳要少進鄰舍的家；免得他厭煩你，就憎惡你。

¹⁸A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

¹⁸作假見證陷害鄰舍的人，就像大鎚、快刀和利箭。

¹⁹Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

¹⁹遭遇災難的時候，倚靠奸詐的人，就像倚靠壞牙和不穩的腳。

²⁰As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

²⁰對著悲傷的心靈唱歌，就像冷天脫衣服，又像鹼上倒酸。

²¹If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

²¹如果你的仇敵餓了，就給他食物吃；如果渴了，就給他水喝，

²²For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

²²因為你這樣作，就是把炭火堆在他的頭上，耶和華必還報你。

²³The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

²³北風帶來雨水；暗中毀謗人的舌頭，使人怒容滿面。

²⁴It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

²⁴寧可住在房頂的一角，也不跟吵鬧的婦人同住一間房屋。

²⁵As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

²⁵來自遠方的好消息，好像疲乏的人得喝涼水。

²⁶A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

²⁶義人在惡人面前屈服，好像混濁了的水泉、污染了的水井。

²⁷It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

²⁷吃蜜過多是不好的；追尋自己的榮耀，也是不好的。

²⁸He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

²⁸人若不控制自己的心，就像沒有城牆，毀壞了的城一樣。
