¹My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

²So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

²lased oma kõrva tarkust tähele panna, pöörad südame arukuse poole,

³Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

³jah, kui sa mõistuse appi kutsud ja tood oma hääle kuuldavale arukuse heaks,

⁴If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

⁴kui sa seda otsid nagu hõbedat ja püüad leida nagu peidetud varandust,

⁵Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

⁵siis sa mõistad Issanda kartust ja leiad Jumala tunnetuse.

⁶For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

⁶Sest Issand annab tarkuse, tema suust tuleb tunnetus ja arukus.

⁷He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

⁷Tema talletab õigetele edu, on kilbiks neile, kes elavad laitmatult,

⁸He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

⁸kaitstes õiguse radu ja valvates oma vagade teed.

⁹Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

⁹Siis sa mõistad õiglust ja õigust, ja seda, mis õige on - kõiki häid teid.

¹⁰When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

¹⁰Sest siis tuleb tarkus su südamesse ja tunnetus hakkab meeldima su hingele.

¹¹Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

¹¹Otsustusvõime valvab su üle, arukus kaitseb sind,

¹²To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

¹²päästes sind kurjalt teelt, meeste käest, kes räägivad pööraselt,

¹³Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹³kes hülgavad sirged rajad, et käia pimedatel teedel,

¹⁴Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

¹⁴kes rõõmustavad kurja tehes, hõiskavad pööraste roimade juures,

¹⁵Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

¹⁵kelle rajad on kõverad ja kelle teed on eksiteed.

¹⁶To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

¹⁶See hoiab sind ka võõra naise eest, muulasest naise eest, kes räägib meelitavaid sõnu,

¹⁷Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

¹⁷kes on hüljanud oma noorpõlve sõbra ja on unustanud oma Jumala seaduse.

¹⁸For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

¹⁸Sest tema koda vajub alla surma poole ja tema teed varjuderiiki.

¹⁹None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

¹⁹Ükski, kes tema juurde sisse läheb, ei tule tagasi ega jõua taas eluradadele.

²⁰That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²⁰See on siis selleks, et sa võiksid käia heade teel ja hoida õigete radu,

²¹For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

²¹sest õiglased tohivad elada maa peal ja vagad sinna järele jääda,

²²But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

²²aga õelad hävitatakse maa pealt ja truudusemurdjad pühitakse ära.
